Frankly I really don't give a flying fuck as to what Williams runs - hell, I won't care if Williams runs some 5-2 Eagle front for crying out loud.

As long as his defense attacks, and brings the QB down to the ground (hard, preferably) I really don't care how he does it.

I wonder what the reasoning is here. The only players I see really benefiting from sticking in the 3-4 are Henry Anderson (not currently rostered) and maybe Jordan Jenkins. We're forcing a 4-3 guy into a 3-4 based off of those guys? So if Lawrence were to become available and we signed him, are we making this guy stand up? Nick Bosa too? I think we'd be jumping the gun a bit making that decision this early. Sure, you need a plan when filling out the roster, but there isn't a ton of high level 3-4 talent on the market anyway.

    Agree

Everyone has a plan (scheme) until they get punched in the mouth

It’s not how you start it’s how you play and adjust

dopes are stuck on these made up “rules” and alignments for football. Beat your man, do your job.

Anyone notice the Pats last 6 titles? Their defense was completely designed based on opponent

Only fools givie a shit about “scheme” for week 1.

What if we land one of the top two pass rushers coming out
AND an elite FA pass rusher with all this cap space?

Then how dominant would a Leonard Williams be at the L.O.S?

It's not the 3-4 or 4-3 scheme it's the players and Leonard and Jamal are two great defensive building blocks to have.

    We're not the Patriots.

We've been running this scheme for the better part of the past 21 years since Parcells came here in 1998.

And lack of a pass rush from the defensive front has been a problem for much of that time. Heck they've been trying to find a pass rusher ever since they let Abraham walk in 2005.

Yet they keep on burning first round picks on defensive linemen to fit this scheme. And when those players don't produce big numbers we get the same tired excuse oh this scheme isn't designed for linemen to put up big sacks numbers.

So if this scheme isn't designed for linemen to produce big numbers WHY DO THE JETS CONTINUE TO USE FIRST ROUND PICKS ON LINEMEN TO FIT THIS TIRED SCHEME?

    OR

Why not just allow Williams to run HIS 4-3 that he's run everywhere he's been? He'd usually had big time pass rushers Jevon Kearse, Myles Garrett etc.

It's the Jets stupid things happen here.

It's not just that they're sticking with the 3-4 the papers are also saying that the Jets will be looking for undersized front line players to fit into this 3-4.

Quite possibly a NFL first. Every 3-4 I've seen before requires BIGGER front line players not smaller.

If those reports are accurate it would be a disaster. A undersized 3-4 has the makings of one of the worst if not the worst run defense of all time.

    Hidden production = role player.

Only the Jets are dumb enough to talk up a role player and pay him like he's doing star player things/is a star.

No one runs a base defense the majority of the time anymore. It's been that way for years.

Stop the over obsession with the 3-4.

Hidden production is the dumbest terminology I have ever heard in terms of football.

Are you trolling us? Where did the Jets say they were looking for undersized players?? They just want faster players on the edge. You really have no clue what you are talking about. Their current players are the right size for 3-4.
