Yes, but the fact remains that wherever he's been, and whatever he's done has NOT made a positive impact. Of course we can hope for the "Belichick Effect" whereby a previously unsuccessful guy suddenly becomes successful. but I won't hold my breath.
On the plus side, Darnold won't have to worry about his OC changing, it's not like Kenny Loggins is getting a promotion...
I never said we have a franchise QB, I said we have a QB. But yes, we won't know until we see him play for a few years and surround him with players. My point was not about Sam, it was about the people making the decisions. I give Chris a win for getting Sam no matter what happens. He is the person who hired Gase so I am confident things will be different because Woody was the problem
Do you guys think it might be possible to be more accurate with the headlines here? The only two guys who have been hired by the Jets so far this season are Gase and Williams. Boyer has been retained. Pollack and Loggains are possibly being considered for hiring but as of now Bates is still the OC and Dennison is still the Offensive line coach. Are you guys so anxious to get the "scoop" that you ignore the facts or are you not able to understand what those tweets are actually saying?
For OC Gase needs someone who understands his offensive system inside out and who he can trust to teach it well to the Jets offensive players, while he focuses on Darnold. It would be incredibly stupid to hire a different OC who doesn't know his system and would have to learn it and teach it to the offense at the same time. Given his history with Gase this is the right guy.
I think we’re just not thinking anywhere near as hard about this as you are. Pretty safe to say that there are certain reporters that when they say there’s smoke... there’s fire. It was reported weeks ago and now again today. I think common sense just prevails here.
Common sense is that facts get reported as facts; rumors get reported as rumors. The headline here is false. Even adding the word "to" before "hire" would work.
Not to make too much of this, but I really hope that Gase's "system" is doing whatever works to make Darnold his best. If he tries to force Sam into a preconceived mold, that's troubling. So, unless that's the case, then the "system" shouldn't matter, and what the OC's job entails is makin sure he's flexible enough to maximize his player's ability, most importantly the QB, but all the "O" players too.
Once you hire Gase you gotta let him pick his OC so that's that. The probability that this works out well? <.05
Listening to M. Francesca interview he asked Gase what type of offense he wants to run & Gase said he has to see what we do well. This tells me he will work to Sam's strengths, which is a good sign.
It’d be really funny if he got scooped up by another team in some different role.Suddenly it’d be that nobody wants go come here or work with Gase.
Look he may make the best cup of coffee in the world and hold the clipboard superbly and that is all he has to do in effect, the slug won't be calling any play calls on game day, he is OC in name only, he really should just be hired as assistant OC and it would be more truthful tbh
