I guess Mangini knew what he was doing by making him our NT. Even though he has had some bad games for the most part it looks as if he is assimilating to the position. As of today Dewayne Roberstson has more total tackles than Vince Wilfork, Ted Washington, Casey Hampton and Jason Ferguson. He trails Jamal Williams by 1. He also has more sacks than the aforementioned Nose Tackles including Jamal Williams. Not bad for a guy who just took up the position. Obviously the weak link is Kimo. If we can get a legit 3-4 DE an a pain in the ass OLB then this D will be insane.
Never really noticed that his stats were looking so good. If our run D holds up this week I'll have to change the way I look at what we went through to draft him. Seems like he is but another guy who's untapped potential is starting to see some light.
D-Rob has been lights out the past few weeks...he is making plays AND holding his ground/ creating penetration when needed....if he plays like he is lately down the stretch, we may really have something special here......
I feel the same way it's like if all of a sudden he learned how to use his strength and push up the line. Our D-line coach deserves excellent credit. Our DE's Byran Thomas and Shaun Ellis are playing great too. I think our only place for improvement might be our outside linebackers. What do you guys feel?:buffaloblows:
Speaking of penetration I forgot to add he has more YdsL than all those guys as well. So I guess he has gone from bust to boom!
He is playing by far his best football as a pro. The last 3 or 4 games he is on the screen. You notice him either making plays or freeing up linebackers almost all the time, compared to previous years when you had to check to make sure he was on the field. Great story and really happy for the kid too.
That may be but he is beating the top tier Nose Tackles in every category but 1 and that he trails by one.
I may finally have to stop picking on DeWayne. In August of '05, when I attended 4 of Herm's TC's, Herm used to let everyone break early for lunch and head over to The Netherlands. Robertson would be the first guy in the door and the last one to leave, waddling out with a toothpick in his mouth and his gut hanging over his beltline. This is where I picked up on the "extra helpings of fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy" routine. Things have changed with Mangini. Well, maybe not Mangini's eating habits, but perhaps Robertson's... and that's all that counts for now.
that is definently an opinion...but it is a valid one who cares though?...have we proven to stop the run? NO a NT doesnt have to impress with numbers... dewayne had 3.5 sacks last year and 27 solo tackles james reed had 2 sacks and 44 solo tackles.... casey hampton had 0 sacks and 25 solo tackles last season...along with a superbowl ring does that mean anything?....not at all really different defenses...different help around them... individual numbers mean nothing...team numbers matter
that being said...i think he has played well the past few weeks and the line could use an upgrade over kimo in the draft
I could see tackles for a db or especially a linebacker being overrated...cant see any case being made as far as a nose tackle. If you have been watching the games, Drob has taken his game to a whole new level. Is it still trading up for the fourth overall pick level? That maybe the problems some are having with his "improvement". As soon as some of us, me included, get over that, most of us will be totally alright with him as our nt.
i dont see us drafting a olb we just resigned thomas and hobson has been playing really well. so i dont see where this is going
I personally disagree. Hobson is more of an Inside guy and lacks the explosion and playmaking ability desired in a DE/OLB pass rusher. I believe LaMarr Woodley will be the pick round 1
Just because we signed Thomas that does not mean we aren't drafting an OLB. Look what the Cowboys did when they drafted Demarcus Ware. They moved a longtime DE in Greg Ellis to OLB. (even though Ellis is injured)They have 2 great pass rushing OLBs Bryan Thomas is in the same situation. Look at the Cleveland Browns. They drafted Wimbley. They have McGuiness and Wimbley. 2 potent pass rushers. Hobson has been playing great but there is no way he will be the future at OLB. He is too small. He is only 6'0. I can see Mangini moving him to ILB. And drafting someone like Lamarr Woodley or Anthony Spencer.
The James Reed comparison, how many double teams does he face? KC is a 4-3, not a 3-4, he's not a nose.
Robertson has played extremely well. He can be the NT for a long time (as long as his knee stays healthy). von Oelhoffen is the one who will have to be replaced.
First, forget the draft, we don't know where we pick yet. We could finish 7-9 or 11-5 and win the Superbowl. That puts us anywhere from 12-32. No one knows who will be drafted in those positions. DE and evidently CB are the weakest positions on the team along with OG and RT. Jets will fill in with whoever is available.
