man you are setting yourself up for disappointment. reminds me of the time, when Hack was available in the 2nd round, and I thought to myself no way does Mac draft him.

So Freddie Kitchens was just named the HC of the Browns, the team that Mike McCarthy publicly said he was the most interested in initially (prior to his damage control face saving move saying the Jets are his only interest), and he couldn't beat out FREDDIE KITCHENS for the job!

What does that tell you about McCarthy and what Dorsey thought of him?

I’m pretty sure every single report says the Browns said no thanks.

I know. But I’m used to us doing the third smartest thing at this point. I thought the Sam trade would be a turning point, but it doesn’t look like it was.

I dont see Johnson and MAC moving fast here. They want to be thorough and make the right decision. I dont see either of them as guys who will make a quick decision.

No one else is interested in their candidates other than the Bengals interest in Monken. Unless they were really wowed by one candidate I see them doing 2 to 3 very thorough 2nd interviews. If they were truly wowed by one candidate we likely already would have a coach by now.

I don't see why McCarthy would feel compelled to grant a 2nd to the only team who interviewed him in the first place....

If McCarthy would be willing to take him on as OC, sign both guys NOW!

If we hire McCarthy, we aren’t getting any kind of decent OC because McCarthy calls the plays. That’s a demotion for a guy like Monken. I can’t believe we are going to let him walk and accept an OC job. So stupid.

Eric Bieniemy doesn't call plays, Doug Pederson didn't call plays. Calling plays isn't the only way to get a HC job if you are an OC. I disagree that it's a demotion. We also don't know what McCarthy wants right now in full.

  12. Can we stay in our own lane please? Browns are their own team w own set of circumstances.

And fyi Dorsey got fired from GB 3 years befiore Mccarthy did!what does that say about HIS qualifications?

Mccarthy may not be the answer but this talk of him being this offputting undesireable moron does not lend to any argument good or bad

I don't think Fangio will be a good HC for some reason....I think he's definitely a lifetime coordinator. i.e. Wade Phillips, Del Rio, Haslett, Tom Moore

If no one else thinks he's ready to be a HC, and he's considering an OC job, then why are the Jets "stupid" for not hiring him as their HC?

And maybe McCarthy would be willing to delegate the play calling to answer the criticism of that aspect of his resume.

The still have Mack. I’m sure they’ll be ok.
Fangio and kubiak calling o and d. Elway Is not putting any faith in the youth coaching movement

At this point, I could get by with any of these offensive hirings. I don't like them all, but I understand the reasoning for each. Each candidate has valid points for and against.

HOWEVER, if the coach doesn't bring his offensive system with him (Gase, Monken, McCarthy), then the offensive coordinator attached to the job becomes VERY important. Perhaps more important than whoever they choose as the HC, and this is kind of why I'm leaning towards McCarthy.

They can't afford to have a crap OC come here (obviously, but this seems to happen often), or someone that will be interviewing for HC gigs in 2020. Either scenario could possibly put Darnold in 3 offensive systems in 3 years. That is the scariest part of this entire process.

Apparently, Bowles is also considering the Bears as a DC. Vangio was an excellent coach. He should've been a HC for the 49ers years ago.

So are the Browns still the pinnacle of franchises that was shopping at Newman Marcus while we were shopping at Walmart?

It's insight into NFL perspectives surrounding candidates. The Browns are in a very similar situation to us from a current building standpoint, and they decided a guy who's highest level of football experience and success was 1 year at OC just this past year over McCarthy who was publicly enthusiastic about the Browns HC position.

This is telling, however you choose to assimilate the information is one thing but it's certainly telling.
