    Don’t waste your time. He’s a typical liberal crying racism at every opportunity. You did make some good points and it’s a total joke of a rule. The NFL has to find some kinda way to get more of these guys in coaching that doesn’t involve using people as guinea pigs for the sake of following a rule. It’s a slap in the face to a lot of these guys.

    I actually AM a liberal myself so its not like I'm super into your talking points either, I was just having a discussion about a rule that exists. I do agree though, its very patronizing to minority candidates to waste their time with an interview when they aren't a real candidate. He mentioned Anthony Lynn. That's awesome that he's having success but for a long time Lynn was just the guy they interviewed to fill a requirement. Talk about racism... meeting with a guy you aren't gonna hire, but meet with because of his skin color and a rule

    Well, being racist is now socially acceptable since 2016 thanks to General BoneSpurs. This of course is dependent on accepting the premise that Racism exists at all.

    For the most part, Owners are dodging the Rooney Rules by pretending to interview minority candidates they have no intention of hiring. Its far easier to sell White HC's to a predominately white fanbase. At the end of the day, its still all about the dollars..

    Yes, if owners were REALLY all about EEO there would be a few more black GMs...it's not like there are none qualified. But aside from the racism issue, it's also an "old boy's network" and they have always favored "team players", i.e. guys who don't rock the boat. It's a plantation mentality that does everything to hold down the hired help.

    Except the majority of racism continues to come from the left that has turned it into an industry. And to sell a product you have to manufacture it first.

    I think you make a really good point in general. In this case, he didn't speculate he said he wasn't qualified and was only getting the interview because of the Rooney rule. The guys doesn't call the plays for the Chiefs but he is the OC. Pederson didn't call the plays under Reid either. Nagy was OC under Reid for 1 year. He didn't call plays until game 11 not because he earned it but because Reid was failing and needed to make a change. Nagy called the plays in KC wonderful home loss to the Titans where they put up a donut in the second half against a very mediocre TN team. That didn't stop him from becoming the Head Coach of the Bears.

    The rule was instituted by an all white organization under pressure from the players Union. The beauty of the rule is it's actually working. Black coaches are being hired and moving up the ranks. The fact that a bunch of them are being fired is a sign that the rule is working as you rightfully pointed out.

    The flip side of the rule is by speculating that coaches are being interviewed because of race, you're ignoring the reason the rule was implemented. It was implemented because the all white male ownership of the NFL was discriminating based on race. If you want to speculate that he's being interviewed based on race that's fair as long as you remember the context of why the rule was instituted. Racism. Speculating isn't the same as a statement saying unqualified. We all have pretty strong opinions. None of us really knows who's qualified and who isn't from a professional POV. Even if we did professionals have varying opinions on who's qualified and who isn't. It's not a profession where the metrics are etched in stone.

    That was very well said. Thank you for taking the time to put together such a well thought out post.

    One thing I think people miss about the Rooney rule is its intent is not necessarily to get the coach hired on the first interview but to get minority coaches involved in the process whereby their chances of getting hired will increase.

    Practicing interviews, meeting owners and displaying their talents increases their visibility as well as putting their skills, knowledge and accomplishments on display. This has had the effect of more minority hirings.

    I’m with you on all accounts. The only place we differ is that I don’t see his opinion of Bieniemy being unqualified as nullifying his speculation of why owners are interviewing him. His opinion may not be the owner’s opinion so his argument is still speculation.

    Surely you can easily show me mass propagated racism by the right that is having clear impact on society. The alt right is a fringe, powerless group that has zero impact on society, but the leftist media has to exaggerate them to sell their racist narrative. You’ve bought it; congratulations, you’re the racism consumer they are marketing to.

    Compare that to leftist concepts such as white privilege and safe spaces that are shaping rules in society. There’s your real racism.

    But let’s not let facts and reality get in the way. Of course, if you can dispute any of that instead of just making snide comments, the platform is yours.

    Five black coaches were fired because they were hired to begin with, and leftists argue that it reveals racism. It takes a tremendous amount of dishonesty or lack of self awareness to argue contrary.

    The Rooney rule got Mike Tomlin hired. I think there were reports saying Pittsburgh had their mind made up and then interviewed Tomlin to be in compliance and he blew them away.

    I believe the rule encourages young men to pursue an NFL career because becoming an NFL coach is now, more than ever, an achievable goal for a lot of these young people.

    To remove the rule would could potentially send the wrong message and the bad optics of this is not worth the NFLs time.

  19. I think when you artificially empower or single out a minority group for lasting affects in the future all you do is compound the problem causing more division,resentment & entitlement.

    Indulging social classes as some sort of equality mechanism is not the answer.Its about education,respect & tolerance. Until we realize theres no way of righting things that happened 200 years ago, stop blaming one another or worse using division as a point of manipulation or contentiom..this hate & social hazard will persist in mutated forms.
