We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. I don't think it disingenuous at all. I don't know that he'd even be the "safest" choice, but even if he is, that shouldn't be the major criteria. We need a HC that will at least give us a chance to make the playoffs, and imo there'd be no chance of that with Lewis, plus, I don't want him turning the Jets into a bunch of thugs. That would definitely end my days as a Jets fan.

What does not getting the job done mean in a a business where the owners are partners in shared revenues and the coaches and GM's are competitors in a game?

Speaking for myself, I don't want just any former HC. And if the choice was between Lewis and some first-timer like Toub or Monkin, I'd go with the latter.

Not much except perhaps PR. Again, it comes down to imagery and these days, white coaches are preferrable to black ones. Better for swag sales and advertising I guess. Definetly an easier sell to a predominately white fan base.

Im happy that we are looking at 8-9 interviews.

Really means its a big search and not dialled in.

Hopefully one of these candidates smashes the interview and really stands out from the rest of the pack.

    Didn't Bowles do exactly that?

No, I think he simply fogged the mirror. Woody was so desperate to erase the stench from Rex and Idzik, and he swallowed his search committee's ringing endorsement that Bowles "had him at hello"/

Search committees suck. They are expensive and they usually just recommend their friends anyway. Glad they are just letting the football people pick football people this time

The question becomes, would you prefer a CEO type who may have lost a little off his fastball or the entrepreneurial young hotshot who could take the offense to another level or be completely overwhelmed.

McCarthy would immediately bring stability and accountability to the franchise, he would put in place structure learned over more than a decade as an HC with a storied franchise. He'd be fantastic in quick-starting the development of Sam which is the Prime Objective. He's an offensive minded coach with a winning track record.

Downside could be, has the offensive game--from a innovation standpoint--passed him by. He can get Sam to a great level but can he elevate him to superstar. Yes he won a SB but why didn't he win more? Can't discount that.

Kingsbury would be the wild card--maybe the next McVay that could elevate Sam to superstardom. Could move the Jet's offense into the 21st century of the NFL. Score POINTS.

But can he put in a structure--would he command the respect in the clubhouse? Would he be able to discipline even the best, leaders on the team. Can he oversee an entire NFL franchise?

I think both guys would be great for Sam which is the most important factor in picking the coach.

Do you want the CEO or the brand new Hedge Fund Manager?

I thought I read somewhere that Bowles rocked the interview to the point the Jet Brass was scared not sign him. They were originally going to wait for Quinn but they couldn't risk losing Bowles.. Well, 4 years and 1 SB later you have to w0nder how prudent a decision that was...

As long as the name Casserly doesn't show up anywhere in relation to the Jets.

No question about it. In many ways the Rooney rule was a self protecting mechanism for the owners and the league. The NFL's anti-trust exemption and the league office status as a None profit is predicated on its contract with the NFL labor Union. The Rooney rule is meaningless in terms of who is hired but it was a nice bone to the mostly black NFL players Union. The fan base unlike the players Union is much more white and much more conservative.

No. The rule exists so qualified, capable candidates don’t get looked over for the color of their skin. It doesn’t exist for teams to waste everyone’s time with people they aren’t gonna hire just to satisfy a requirement— or at least it shouldn’t

If I had to choose one, it's a no-brainer for me: McCarthy. But why not hire both - McCarthy as HC, Kingsbury as QBC or OC? If Chris is serious, this is the root I'd recommend.

Of course. And Williams for DC.

But Kingsbury and Williams aren't Jet fans.

If Kingsbury is offered an HC job, he's taking it.

If Williams is offered an HC job, he'll take it or maybe he'll just stay in Cleveland and ride it out as DC.

We can hope for an all star staff, but we have to be realistic.

This might be one of the reasons they are interviewing Kingsbury as all reports said he was in over his head at Texas Tech and is not ready to be a HC. But, one should be worried about forcing a OC on a HC where the two may share different philosophies. This seems like a recipe for disaster. But I am sure they will get McCarthy and other candidates views on staff selections they like would like as well as the candidates opinions on people the Jets might like such as Kingsbury. The important thing is not only do we have a competent CS but one on the same page that can work together.

Of course, but if they don't get their HC job, I sure would try to hire them.
