http://www.espn.com/college-footbal...ma-quinnen-williams-tide-most-dominant-player I understand the need for us to address the offense but if he is the highest rated player and we are unable to trade down at #3 should we pass on him?
I would rather they trade down and get more picks BUT if they do select this guy I would hope a draft day trade is in the works for Williams....
I really don't see him as a realistic choice no matter where the Jets pick. If they go defense it's going to be an outside EDGE type player not another interior lineman. That being said I'm sure there will be a team right below us celebrating when he is passed over...
Yup, you absolutely pass on any 3-4 DLs in the 1st round from now until enternity. Idc if they are a once in a decade player. It is much easier to have a later round draft pick fill the role of 3-4 DL than any other position on the defense. Spending premium picks on 3-4 DL is about the stupidest thing you can do other than drafting a kicker or return specialist on day 2.
If Greedy Williams interviews well and puts up numbers in his testing.....I can see him being very viable for us at that pick. Relationship with Jamal Adams as well. You bring him in and suddenly we are extremely potent in the secondary. Bring in a free agent or two for pass rush and we are formidable against passing teams. Use our two third rounders for Oline prospects to develop
Absolutely! Unless we're switching full time to a 4-3 D alignment, we don't need another 295 lb. DT. He's too light to play NT, and we wouldn't want to take an NT that high anyway. We don't need another 3-4 DE. If the Jets take him, I hope they lose every single game for the next 10 years.
And we have such a talent for identifying and developing Oline prospects - not! Remember that development project Vlad Ducasse? Total waste of another 2nd Round pick. Personally, I'd go O/Line with our first pick - unless we get a silly offer from a team wanting to move up, and even then I wouldn't want to trade out of the first 7 to 8 picks.
Terrible decision. Then we have to dole out really big contracts to guys in the secondary if we want to keep them. Can’t be taking two ~ top 5 picks in the secondary so close to each other. Drafting him at #3 would make him the highest drafted CB since 1997... In fact, #3 is the highest a CB has ever gone in NFL history. He simply is not that good and not worthy of such a premium pick.
For the love of GOD pass! Before we even get into team history, the team’s current needs, & the fact that the DT position is a difficult projection, why would we target a guy DT who pays along side a 5 star players at everry other spot around him? That creates space & avoids him being doubled in pass pro. Let some other team bank on him being tje next aaron Donald. Im blt touching any of these Bama defensive guys in round 1.
Except that Williams is THAT good. He gets consistent pressure every game and he controls his gaps very well. It's Bosa and WIlliams on tier 1, and then everyone else. If he's there at 3, he might be the pick to be honest. Although I have a feeling that the Jets trade down to Denver/Jax.
If trading down means upgrading the OL and getting a 2nd rounder in 2019 to get a RB or WR, sign me up for that.
With FAs loaded with talented DL/OLBs if we get lucky to land one of them, I think it would be best to trade down a pick to get extra picks to get OLs and WRs
It’s easy to get pressure & control the gaps when every teammate around him is a beast in their own right. It makes it harder for opposing offenses to scheme against you & the whole defense in general. That means more space in the gaps to drive upfield or laterallly, less double teams, less combos, less chips..Think of Marcell Dareus, Jonathan Allen or even look at DL prospects from other super programs w loaded front 7’s..FSU,Miami,Lsu..alot of guys taken high fom loaded colllege fronts..not alot of return compared to whefe they were selected. Thats not to say Williams wont be a good player. But i worry quite a bit about taking a Bama DL top 3 bc i have no idea if im getting a productive player or not that can elevate the team. He would need to absolutely blow the doors off the combine, private workouts & interview process.
Who cares? Unless our new HC switches our D to a 4-3 alignment, he is not a fit for our D. How many freaking DL do you want the Jets to take over a 10 year period? DL is the least important group in a 3-4 D alignment in today's NFL.
