A VLT would go well with his trophy wife.

Harbaugh won’t just bring credibility he’ll fill the seats, which, if the Johnsons have even a shred of dignity left, will be an itch that they really want to scratch.

The rule is a waste of time. If a team exists at this point that is racist enough to not hire a black coach who happens to be the best man for the job, then forcing that team to interview him won't change that. Also, there have been enough black coaches who have proven themselves to be good coaches that thinking of black coaches as being "not being good enough" should have long been debunked.

Agreed, I think the rule has good intentions but its a joke and can end up teams interviewing minority candidates just for the sake of meeting some rule. At this point, you're either a good coach or you're not and that's that.

The good thing it does do, although I dont think it was the orginal intention, is get some minorities an interview when they otherwise wouldnt have gotten one. This cycle may a be a bit different with Bowles, Joseph, and even a Bienemy available, but in a year with no ‘obvious’ minority candidates, one or more names will be brought in that otherwise wouldnt. Now they prob have 0 chance of getting the job anyways, but if they make a good impression, thess owners and GMs talk and now you have some recognition and reccomendations out there. Is it fair? Thats a different debate altogether but it no doubt is a positive aspect of the situation for those involved

    Interesting. What kind of smoke?

Is it that the Jets are going to make a run at him (we sort of all know this) or is Harbaugh actually reciprocating? Is he interested in coming here?

    This could really be something

Yup. I’m anti affirmative action because promotion should be based on talent, potential and production but if we’re going to live by the fantasy that minorities are still being under represented, there is no downside and a possible upside to mandating minorities get an interview.

I think Mike Tomlin went into the interview as a throw away interview and was so good he got the job.

Again, don’t think it’s necessary anymore but it doesn’t hurt. And could provide a benefit.

I just think the rule is isn't necessary anymore, and when teams are forced to comply with the rule ala the Raiders when they knew Gruden was the coach, the rule becomes a joke.

The problem that existed 20 years ago in the league no longer exists. The league should be able to champion the results of the rule and now let the established culture proceed without the rule. The only reason they don’t is for PR purposes, plain and simple.

Curious regarding Miami here? Ross is a huge Michigan donor. Would he jump in? Would he tolerate Harbaugh coming here?

He must be plugged in with what's going on

Reports are Ross wants Harbaugh to stay in Michigan. They won't pursue him.

Not sure exactly what that means at the end, but seems like a good sign in general

The Raiders interviewed Tee Martin and Bobby Jackson before hiring Gruden so they complied with the rule, but I believe changes were made earlier this season to the Rooney Rule, teams now have to interview someone reccomended from the leagues, carrer advisory committee or not employed by the team
