I saw Shoplifters the other night. It's a good thing they had subtitles. I didn't understand anything they said.
Isn't it Japanese? That's cool you saw it. I read about it as a potential Best Foreign Film Oscar contender I think.
'Widows' looks like it's going to be really good. Directed by Steve McQueen, the guy who directed '12 Years a Slave'. He also wrote the screenplay. Action/Thriller/Heist type flick, four women whose husband's die because of their criminal activities leave their wives in debt. That's the only like they share, but they get together and here comes Bedlam. Viola Davis is in it, that's reason enough right there for me to see it. It's getting great buzz.
"Widows" was.... meh. Typical story line about a heist with a feminist slant to it. No character development at all. No need to rush out and see it. BTW, "Robin Hood" was worse. I really don't have a lot of hope for "Aquaman" either.
:/ Oh, well. I also heard 'Robin Hood' just flat out sucked, so if you're saying 'Robin Hood' was worse, 'Widows' was that bad? Rats.
It's Japanese. It's very slow moving, although the pace matches the development and is part of what's so good about it. If you're looking for action and adventure, it's not it. I thought it was a great movie but I can see that many would be bored out of their mind.
I am excited for Aquaman and I have a good mindset going into it. Low expectations, just hoping to have a fun time. I know the visuals will be good and Jason Mamoa is entertaining. Hope I am right!
I was interested but could have waited to see it on video like most other Marvel films but my son wanted to see it and I hadn’t taken him to see a movie with just the two of us in a while. I thought it was great which is why I’m excited for this one.
Into-the-Spiderverse looks excellent. That reminds me, my wife will be gone on Sunday and the boys and I will be home alone and I don't want to stare at my fantasy team all day. If only there were something to eat into a few hours...
I'm watching 'Shaft' for the 100th time. What a great flick. It's on right now on TCM, and I'm dying. It's so fabulous, always was, always will be. "Up yours! Get out the way (Shaft trying to hail a cab in Times Square)"! "I want a black spade detective." <===> RIP Moses Gunn. I lose count how many times the word motherfucker is used. Great music, too. I also love seeing NYC in the early 70s. It's what I remember, and it's crazy how much things have changed. "Uptown, brother. Amsterdam Avenue." Anyway, it's a wonderful time piece. The only thing that rivals it is 'Blackula', one of my favorite flicks ever. EDIT: "I know cats who'd take out whole zipcodes for that kind of cheese." "Listen, Snow White, me and you are gonna tangle with each other sooner or later." "Why don't you stop playing with yourself, Willie." LMAO.
Aquaman was pretty good. Mamoa has a natural swag to him that just screams blue collar hero. I dunno who the redhead was but talk about eye candy, Chic wore the hell out of that swim suit. The CGI reminded me of Valerian but it was pretty if a bit overdone. I will get the 4K UHD disc when available. Script was adequate for an introduction movie. They put the backstory together about his origin and it dovetailed straight into the movie. The only issue I had was the opposition was weak and poorly developed. Black Mantis was predictable and stiff. Half Bro was a much better opponent. All in all, I could recommend this as a Weekend time killer if you want to be mildly entertained.
How often do you go to the movies grandpa? Looks like for you it is either fishing or the movies. Love it.
