I don't understand why anyone would be so quick to trade away a very good young player like Cabrera for a guy who could be a total flop in the AL. I wouldn't mind having Willis, but not for Melky. Well, unless the Yanks are dead set on keeping Matsui in left, but I don't like that idea.
I'm not a big Willis fan by any means, but Cashman would be brain dead if he didn't do Melky for Willis straight up. He'd be trading a good 4th OFer/decent starting OFer for a guy who would be a #3 in the AL East, with the potential to be a top 2 guy, and is in his mid 20's. Regardless, it would take a whole lot more than just Melky to get Willis from the Marlins
For the record, Cashman was on with Kay today and said that 4 teams have inquired about Pavano, but it doesn't look like he's going anywhere. However, remember, Cashman once said he has no problem going into the season with Bubba Crosby as his CFer. And we all know Cashman would have bathed in acid if he had to go into last season with Crosby in CF. So basically, you never know what Cash is thinking.
I didn't hear it. But this is good news. I love to hear Cashman talk about a guy not going anywhere. It's become obvious that every time he says something to that effect (with the exception of ARod) he deals the guy. What team in their right mind is inquiring about Pavano? Much less FOUR??? I'd trade him for a stale cigarette and a wet book of matches! As for the idea of a Melky/Willis straight up, yeah, I guess you'd have to be a fool to pass that sort of deal up. I'm just scared of Willis in the AL East. Plus, I am still not comfortable with Matsui as our answer in left. His D leaves a lot to be desired. His bat is great, but personally, and I know a lot of people don't agree with me, but I'd rather Giambi was first, Melky in left, and Matsui DHing. Yes, you have a subpar 1B, but the potential that Cabrera has in left to make big plays outweighs the liabilities at first IMO. If it happens, I won't be mad, but I am getting tired of trading away youth all the time. The only advantage would be that we get a young arm in return (who can pitch in the majors, albeit in the NL.)
I imagine it's a mediocre NL team, maybe west coast. I'm sure they think they can do something with Pavano.
Tom Verducci of SI has an article that says Pettitte could be a Yankee again by the end of the week. http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writers/tom_verducci/12/05/yankees.pettitte/index.html Andy is always welcome here, he's not the pitcher he once was but he's still a quality starter and gives our rotation more depth. I hope he comes back.
With the major inflation of contracts this off-season, and losing out on Matsuzaka, bringing back Pettitte for one year looks like the best move that can be made. Houston also declined his arbitration, so it won't cost a draft pick. And if the rumors are true that there is a market for Pavano, this would allow Cashman to move him.
I guess you missed it when the attorney for Grimsley said Pettitte and Clemens were never mentioned in the testimony? Why is it met fans always bring up steroids yet no yankee shave been suspended while multiple mets and mets farmhands have?
As far as I'm concerned they're all guilty until proven innocent anymore. God knows I'd be juicing if they weren't testing for it. (provided I was a MLB player/prospect)
I tend to take that same approach but it's downright comical Met fans think their players have never used.
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2687667 What a jerk-off, using Pettitte's kids like that. I hope Pettitte signs with the Yankees just to fuck over that asshole Garner.
A lot of NL teams would, especially since the offers were peobably A mid level A ball prospect for Pavano A shitload of cash
Resigning Pettitte would be a great move for the Yankees. Considering that the alternatives are pretty much Ted Lilly and Gil Meche, we would be bringing in a guy who had an ERA under 3.00 in the second half of last season, a guy who is a proven playoff pitcher, a proven New York pressure performer, and above all else a proven winner. Plus, he wouldn't require a longterm commitment. I don't understand who could be against this signing (aside from Phil Garner and, apparently, Pettitte's kids.)
The New York Post believes Richie Sexson could be an option at first base for the Yankees. Sexson is owed $28 million over the next two years. The Post thinks the Mariners could pay a portion of his salary if the Yankees are willing to surrender a package led by Melky Cabrera. A deal is quite a long shot, though.
Alio I could not agree with you more about matsui. he is an absolute ass clown out there but more importantly hes keeping one of best, if not best, defensive players from contributing. I would also rather see steroid boy at first and melky in the field. no brainer if yo ask me
