You imply it is on Darnald but he has already said as much as he can about it without outing his useless HC as a liar "My foot feels fine, no pain" he said this 2 weeks ago.
How can you construe this as an attempt by Bowles to save his job? When Darnold starts, the Jets are 3-6 scoring 22 PPG With McCown, they’re 0-2 scoring 11.5 PPG. If “winning now” was Bowles’ perogative, it looks like Darnold is actually his best option. Furthermore, any attempt by Bowles to save his job is no longer about wins. The Jets will undoubtedly miss the playoffs, so Bowles’ best argument for keeping his job would be by providing hope for the future if Darnold plays well down the stretch. There’s nothing useful he can show ownership with McCown starting. I actually think this is either a very selfless move by Bowles or a mandate from upper management. By sitting Darnold until he’s 100% healthy, Bowles is protecting the best interests of our franchise QB and the team long term, even if it means sacrificing his most viable shot at not getting fired.
Here's a scenario for ya.... McCown starts, gets smashed and leaves the game. Darnold suited up but Bowles plays Davis Webb. Webb comes in and actually runs Bates' offense well enough to score a few TD's and make the game close. Jets look competitive with Webb, but Bowles starts McCown the following week under orders from above. Welcome to.. .The Twilight Zone - Jets style.
On a positive note there's really no reason to watch this team other than to see Darnolds development...frees my time up to do more enjoyable things.
It's on Darnold as much as the Jets front office. Think Aaron Rodgers would play along with this kinda bullshit?
A 21 year old rookie versus a 13 year vet, 6 time pro bowler, multiple MVP, SB winner and one of he greatest QBs in NFL history. Good comparison. Better yet, you think Jesus would play along with this bullshit? Abe Lincoln? Pavarotti? Joseph Stalin? Alexander the Great? Bruce Willis?
It's not so much his health as is getting the reps in. He's barely practiced. Why start him if he plays terrible and looks bad. He needs more practice time
Think Rodgers isn't a first year rookie and like I said he already told the world he had no pain, what would you like him to do? Sell out the locker room secrets and be accused of being a dressing room cancer, a grass? All the things that will win you no friends in the future.
You’re funny Cman, Bates offense being run well? 13 points from this offense today and that’s being generous.
Who's he selling out? A lame duck coach? Ahhh...whatever. I just think he'll learn more on the field than on the sideline. Even with the mistakes.
Well everybody agrees with this but that wasn't what we were discussing really. But yeah he would sell out a lame duck coach to us fans but other players, future coaches and owners will all be pissed with him for it, not what you need when you are starting out.
