So in four or five years you'll be saying, "Gee, I really wish we had Bowles back! Them were the days!" Rex was NOT a good HC. He was a pretty good DC, but like Bowles was way in over his head as HC. Let's stop looking to the past and start looking to the future.
If I’m not mistaken, wasn’t it Herm’s desire to leave and go to KC. I know he was starting get flack from the fanbase, but ultimately he left the Jets. He wasn’t fired yet. Is this correct or am I having revisionist history.
Yes ... I stand corrected. Herm wasn't fired. He was actually traded to the Chiefs for a 4th round pick. For the record, that draft was one of the best Jet draft classes in history ... Brick, Mangold, and Leon Washington with the Herm pick.
You’re not wrong though in that the fanbase started giving him all sorts of shit despite having a pretty good run (by Jets standards) during his time here.
You're absolutely right. For some reason that I'll bet he couldn't explain today Carl Peterson wanted him to replace Dick Vermeil as Chiefs head coach, and started tampering with him almost immediately after the season ended. The bloom was certainly off the rose at that point, and the Jets might have fired Edwards anyway, but instead they got out of paying him the last two years of his contract and got Leon Washington as a bonus using the 4th round pick they got from KC to let Herm out of his contract. He was worse for them than he was for the Jets, sneaking into the playoffs with a 9-7 record the first year and then getting the doors blown off by Indy (when KC became the first team in 45 years to not have a first down in the first half of a playoff game), and then going 6-26 the next two years before getting the boot.
F it...bring him back. I liked Rex...at least when we lost we knew he cared and was entertaining. Bowles just stands there with the same stupid look
Everyone once in awhile you hear someone say something and you think "my god that's the dumbest thing I will hear all damn day" .... and then they continue on and immediately prove that theory wrong. This thread is that moment.
Yeah, if the Jets fired Rex after 2010 and back to back AFC championship games, you would have a great point making this thread. Unfortunately, you forgot how it ended with Rex. He had to go and so does Bowles.
I'm so fucking over coaches that know how to stop an offense but have no idea how to run one. we need a new approach badly.
Don't worry about it - a lot more people agree with me today than they did last year going into the bye week even though my message hasn't changed.
Was it worth firing Rex? Absofuckinglutely! Just because you replaced your Gremlin with a Pinto doesn’t mean the Gremlin was a fine vehicle. All it means is that you have horrible taste in cars. The same applies to the Jets and coaches. A shitty new coach doesn’t mean a shitty old coach was good. The Jets just have horrific judgment in assessing coaching talent.
Maybe...I wish I got to see it. That 2015 squad is my favourite Jets team...And Rex has been my favourite coach...
I seriously believe this. After he got that Lap Band procedure - he turned into a ghetto snob. He lost his will to win and ability to motivate his players.
