My brother once complained to me that his "wife doesn't trust me". I asked, "can she?" And he said "9 out of 10 times".
If he doesn't play, there is zero reason to watch this game. Can't imagine settling in for 3 plus hours to watch Josh McCown battle the hapless Bills.
I really like Josh McCown as a person and I appreciate everything he’s done for this team But if he starts I hope the Bills absolutely shut him down. Things will get really ugly if he lights it up.
Im not worried about him getting Wally Pipp’d, I’m worried about the reaction of the defensive players in the locker room
Yea. The defense has generally played well enough to win. If a veteran comes in and makes the offense look serviceable they’re going to clamor for him to stay in and Bowles is thick-headed enough to think the same way
Just to counter this, keeping Ryan would have probably meant keeping Idzik. I don't think it would have been possible to force Ryan onto a third GM. While Maccagnan has been pretty average drafting, Idzik was downright terrible. Maccagnan at least has shown some smart contract work with his signing that has prevented us from being burdened by dead money. Much like Bowles, I was rooting for Ryan to succeed, and loved his defensive acumen, but also like Bowles, never picked up the game management aspect. I don't think he prepared this team well either, and his basic football strategy was Ground 'n' Pound. I think there's a bit too much nostalgia surrounding Ryan because of Bowles' shortcomings. Do you remember the poor clock management by Ryan, never having timeouts at the end of halves, constant 11 men on the field penalties? Never being prepared after a bye week, nor after any big win we had. You were basically guaranteed a huge letdown following any upset, regardless of opponent. Making Santonio a Captain. There was so much bad there, Bowles was definitely an improvement for that following year purely based on potential growth.
Maybe if this happened a few weeks ago or something. At (3-6), possibly (4-6) if McCown beats a terrible Bills team, I am not sure the defensive players will say a word. The season is over. There will be 6 games after the BYE, Patriots twice, Packers, Texans, Titans and Bills. There is 1 winnable game there for the (3-7) or (4-6) Jets. Asking for the 39 year old QB to play over a 21 year old rookie would be ridiculous. Wait a minute. I forgot this is the Jets and Todd Bowles. You are right.
If it happened a few weeks ago when Darnold still looked good, the defense wouldn't complain. If it happens now, the defense will be furious they missed out on a chance to contend because Bowles played Darnold. Regardless, the best way to fix this mess is to clean house.
Another messy weekend on deck..woo hoo The Jets Soap Opera continues...yep plenty of people in casts getting sick visits like on Daytime TV ..boo hoo..guess they borrowed a script here
i am glad that you mentioned it! do you know who the defensive coordinator of arizona was in that game?
he will play. the jets curse will strike again. a home loss in a game that was supposed to be an easy win. sort of like stopping drew bledsoe only to unleash brady. or stopping tyrod taylor only to have mayfield come into the game.
if he doesn't play, he can recover. then, the team can give the boot to bowles and rodgers. maybe even bates..
did you see the 49ers rip the raiders apart with an undrafted free agent qb who just happened to attend the same college as brett favre? how is it the 49ers and cowboys find a guy like this, or the pats strike gold in the 6th round, yet the jets use 4 draft picks to trade for a guy in the first round? you think maybe that has something to do with our historically bad drafting and the over-reliance on short-term, expensive, free agent veterans?
