Well, we will still have cap space too. This move would’ve taken away picks and space. When has this type of move ever worked out? Good teams build through the draft first.
This. The Jets are still a year or so away. It would be a shame to trade picks and also use up $20M in cap space. I'd rather draft players and sign free agents, as it will have a bigger impact. However, Fowler does interest me. If they could get him for a 3rd, I think it would be a great move.
This trade would have completely changed the Franchises mindset from rebuilding to win now. I would have done the trade for a 1st, and a third- definitely not 2 1sts especially with the contract that would follow. The Jets are rebuilding the correct way- for the first time ever. If they want an edge rusher, trade for Fowler, a much more cost-effective option
Bears gave up 2 first round picks + the plus was undisclosed (which I would imagine another pick) Mac did rite by making a bid and not going overboard. Next years draft is loaded with pass rushers.
You thought the word "contention" meant to just barely qualify for a Wild Card seed? Ha ha! Dats pretty lofty goals dawinner127. Real talk time. Giving up two first round picks for an edge rusher would suggest the Bears are only an edge rusher away from contending for a championship, NOT just become a wild card playoff team. Bottom line, the Bears aren't winning the championship by acquiring Khalil Mack. Heck they're not even winning their division. In fact I don't even have them making the playoffs this year. I'm NOT at all sold on their franchise QB, Mitch Trubisky. In my opinion this move by Duh Bears is even worse than the Dolphins when they blew their wad on Ndamukong Suh in free agency, because they're also blowing two 1st round picks on Mack and then some. Hope the Bears have fun in purgatory or "contending" for the last few spots in the NFC playoffs!
That tweet makes me think that maybe the Jets DID offer two 1st rounders, but the difference was the rest of the deal the Raiders offered AND getting him to the NFC.
This post really couldn't be further from the truth. He's put up some really good individual numbers but he's yet to elevate his defense around him. 2017's Oakland Raiders Defense: • 20th in points allowed. • 24th in defensive sacks. • 27th in yards allowed per play. • 30th in QB Rating against. • 31st in turnovers forced. • 32nd in defensive INT's. Great individual numbers but has not shown an ability to impact the game to the point of leading his defense.
The Bears did a lot of work to revamp their team this past off-season. This move strengthens a defense that was already looking pretty good and likely could mean their 1st round pick is worth a lot less. They could drop from 15ish to mid 20's "if" they can surprise and make the playoffs. I think this move puts them solidly ahead of the lions and gets them closer to challenging both Minn and GB. I'm not sold on GB's running game and now with Chi having both Floyd and Mack.. wow Rodgers better be sure this shoulder has healed and strong because this Chi D will toss him around like a rag doll. It would not surprise me at all if Minn wins the division and the Bears get the WC over GB. The Jets very well could pick in the top 10 again this year so that pick has a lot more value than Chicago's. The question is will Mac use the cap space and draft picks properly? If so,(i.e. spend it on solid OL and edge rushers that could be starters for 8-10 years) I'm fine with not sending 2 1st's for Mac. If they ignore OL and edge rusher again this next off-season and in the 2019 draft then it was a huge mistake not giving the picks for Mack.
While I did want Mack like most I am happy we didn’t give up all the picks plus cap space. Sure he’s a game changing player but the Jets are realistically two or three years away. That puts Mack around 29-30 years old by the time we are contending. Keep the picks and cap space which may turn into 3-5 starters. Don’t rush this rebuild. Darnold is 21 years old our window is just starting to open.
This is a universally accepted truth by anyone who has ever watched or played football. One would think you’d understand this if you “eat sleep and live” football. Yet ClownShoesWinsChampionships tried to dispute it with Raider team defensive rankings, team defensive stats and team wins and losses that he googled on Wikipedia. One can only laugh.
I mean, it’s not really Mac’s fault considering he was the 2nd highest bidder and reportedly very aggressive. It’s just frustrating to see someone else win.
