You'd rather be the team that gave up a 3rd round pick when you already have no 1st, for a backup who hasn't played a meaningful game in 2 years instead of the team that turned a $1 mil investment into said 3rd round pick?

Rumor is to complete the deal NO sends a 3rd and Sean Payton for Teddy, a 6th and Toilet Bowles.

    MAC is the man !

Plus getting rid of Teddy now also frees up a roster spot. Now maybe we keep Cannon or Flowers or Sterling instead of trying to put them on practice squad & loosing them.

I am bummed out, but happy for Teddy. It was awesome having him on the Jets. The Saints made a great move. They have the best back-up QB in the league and a potential replacement for Brees in the upcoming years if they choose to extend him.

Obviously an amazing move by Mac. Basically traded a 6th round pick for a 3rd round pick as Teddy would be gone no matter what after the year. Genius!

    Quoted for truth:

    I knew it all along.

How did any of you who's complaining and crying, not?

We just received a 3rd round draft pick for a player that we signed for pennies on the dollar. What an A+ steal from our Front Office.

We can now use this 3rd round pick in order to continue building around Sam Darnold and/or use it as an asset in order to trade back up into the 1st or 2nd round (to land a player our front office falls in love with come draft day).

At the end of the day Teddy Bridgewater had no future as a Jet and would have left for Free Agency come the offseason for absolutely nothing. The writing was truly on the wall the moment we landed Sam Darnold. And we landed a 3rd round draft pick out of it.

Our Front Office either A.) Does not believe in his knee long term and a kneee in which his surgical doctor described as a grenade going off inside of his knee or B.) They seen all they needed to see in Sam Darnold and are excited to build around this kid moving forward into the near future.

Maccagnan trading up from 6th to 3rd in order to steal Sam Darnold followed by trading away Teddy for a 3rd round pick in whom he received for pennies on the dollar along with heading into the offseason ranked #1 in available salary cap space amongst all NFL teams...

Has him as the overwhelming early 2018 favorite to become a 2x NFL Executive GM of the Year.

Yawn inducing. Geno, Petty and Hack all sucked royally (and I said so at the time - Sanchez too). This situation is completely different. Nobody is saying Bridgewater was the Jets longterm solution. What are saying is that there will be a point this season where he will be worth more than they just got for him (swapping a 6th for a 3rd).

    ... and that's accurate.

Yours is an off-shoot of the sunk cost fallacy. The question is not what it cost the Jets to acquire Bridgewater. The question is when is he most likely to be worth the most and, at that time, will he be worth more than you just got for him right now.

I'll ask you the same question I asked @NCJetsfan... when was the last time a team gave up more than a 3rd for a backup QB because their starter went down midseason? There's close to no precedent for the "he would have been more valuable later" theory. Bradford at least started 14 games the year before the Vikings gave up a first for him.

Not even a $1 million investment.

His signing bonus was $500k, the guarantee was for $1 million (an incremental $500k) but NO is picking that up.

So it was just a $500k investment.

A brilliant move on Macs part.

He’s made some great moves TBH.

You answered your own question ... Sam Bradford two years ago (1st and a 4th).

He’s going to win it again.

    Some brilliant moves this year.

Good point, forgot the bonus was all we had to pay out. I'll play this game, dumb as it is:

    Two 2018 2nd round picks, 2019 2nd round pick, 20109 6th round pick, $500k
    for
Sam Darnold and a 2019 3rd round pick

    That's a win.

So the one time in the last god only knows how many years it's happened is enough to convince you it's going to happen again? That was my point. There is no stat in the world that says a team is likely to panic midseason and give up a 1st or 2nd for a backup QB. And there is no precedent whatsoever for that considering the backup QB has played 3 preseason games in two years.

How could you possibly notice that? I thought Bridgewater was great and that Geno was horrendous. Not sure Petty and Hack had any fans. More like supporters who wished them well and hoped they would reach their potential.

Yes, because the injury situation happens every year. What doesn't happen every year is that the team with the best young backup QB in the league makes him available at the deadline. In this scenario, the Jets willingness to trade is the historical anomaly. Bridgewater is younger than Garopollo.

Really? Macc won GM of the year two seasons ago. Wow.. I had no idea. Honestly I can't recall what he did in 2015-16 that would warrant the honor.

    Was that the Fitzmagic season?

Ok then if it happens every year, enlighten me. How many times has a team given up more than a 3rd for a backup QB midseason? Why can’t anyone answer this question?
