Because there's not a single thing to suggest this is even remotely true. You start with "if" then claim it's a reason for the trade? That doesn't add up.
Better not be a conditional pick that the saints can side step and not have to give up ala the Vilma trade. Everyone thank Tanny, *jet fans in unison * Thanks Tanny
IMO that is not a good enough reason. He was going to make the cut. Whatever pick we got for him would probably have helped more next season and going forward than whatever player we keep on the roster now.
And gave up a second next year to complete the Darnold move-up so this is a nice recovery. Mac has made some great moves on this front.
Because. It's almost a guarantee that some starter will go down. Even if not, Teddy is worth more than a 4th round pick. That's not getting value for him. He's worth more than that as a backup, lockerroom leader and mentor to Darnold.
Pretty damn impressive. Signed Teddy. Paid $1 million. Drafted Darnold. Darnold becomes starter. Trade Teddy for a 3rd round pick. That's fuckin awesome
But now we have a roster spot and an extra pick . For a player we had no intentions of keeping. Mac could have maybe held out for more but who knows when and how much. The biggest complaint is he is going to a team that will probably be picking in the high teens low 20s at best for us/worst for them.
You would have a very very hard time convincing a GM of this I think. Hence, why he went for a third and all the pundits are praising it.
Looks like a 1st and a 3rd was needed for the Mack trade. Great win for Mac to secure Mack! (the above statement is meant to troll and explicitly trigger overbearing members into a frenzy)
It doesn't make a tinker's damn difference who went down last year. That was last year. This is this year. Teddy has shown himself healthy and playing at a high level.
