Yep. Darnold will keep getting better and better. He is probably 5-7 years away from his prime. Crazy to imagine the possibilities. That is why many fans and the organization is so excited. Need to protect him and surround him with talent.

Other positives from last night: Enunwa and Pryor looked good. Add in a healthy Kearse and Robbie Anderson, and Darnold has some pretty good weapons. Powell and Crowell also seem good. Get Beachum back and the offense will be better than people expect.

Just another chapter in our bizarre existence as Jets fans. In regards to our QB position I have never felt so at ease and optimistic. Regarding most everything else I feel nervous and unsettled. We have legit talent in that secondary and on the D as a whole, but Bowles at the helm of that talent is my worst nightmare. As a leader, gameplanner, someone who has to make adjustments, to have his team disciplined and focus. All he's done is fall flat game after game. Year after year

This team has plenty of talented hard working self starters. Darnold and Adams and Leonard Williams etc. But they deserve a coach who is as good among his peers as they are against there's. They deserve better than Bowles and Rodgers

Yep. Thanks for the reminder lol. But you're right he was mostly coddled and protected and aside from a moment here and there he was grossly in over his head as a starting NFL QB. He was constantly baited by secondaries into making horrible throws, had zero pocket presence (no feel for the rush). Despite his massive hands he couldn't hold on to the ball. Stared down receivers and just had no natural accuracy. I understand he didn't exactly have Clayton and Duper out there but he just flat out missed so many easy throws, easy TDs, because he sailed the ball 10 yards over a guys head.

Darnold at 21 is light years ahead of Sanchez at 23. Darnold is showing us what a high football IQ, work ethic, and great natural talent can do.

in 2010 and 2011 he was 9th in the league for passing attempts not really sure how he was coddled for a 2nd/3rd year QB

Its around 65 sacks and you said 90, big difference. And you're the one trying to be precise to make your point.

His fumbles were all strip sacks and theyre still sacks.

The difference in his third and fourth year is he had to throw in situations that were more normal QB situations. He had to throw on third down. He had to face exposure to rush. He was just not throwing in unexpected situations.

Again your original premise that the offensive line was bad is a fairy tale. The Jet OL was not the best in the NFL like 9 and 10 but it still was 5th and 11th in hits and pressures allowed and most importantly Sanchez ranked last under pressure and had a sack rate while pressured twice that of other QBs.

To repeat my post from earlier. Doing a quick search I found this article which ranked him last in the league under pressure with a sack rate of 24%. It is remarkable the links still work after 8 years.

I think you’re being a tad unfair to Mark, I always liked him and he and the coaching/FO bears equal responsibility for his failures but at the end of the day, notwithstanding some great moments in the playoffs and otherwise, he ultimately didn’t have what it takes to be a winning consistent competent NFL QB and leader of a franchise.

He should never be mentioned in the same paragraph with Sam, much less the same sentence other that that they both went to USC.

Sam is 10x the QB of Mark in terms of arm talent, accuracy, release, vision, mobility, football IQ, athleticism, size, leadership, work ethic, grounding, everything it takes to be a consistent winning NFL QB and face of a franchise.

HAH, I called it. I started typing, "Dad's gonna be mad when he gets back and merge" but I didn't finish because . . . I'm sure the suspense is killing all of you . . . but I decided to cancel the ending.

and again i personally beleive this came from being hit so often. Which was my original point young QB's fold when they are under constant pressure early on.

Also they cut back on his throwing in year 4 and tried to go back to running just didnt work well as we hadnt had a truly productive run game post jones, washington

Agreed like i said this was never a comparison of skill sets but what can happen to young QB's who dont have protection early on. O still say untill the oline issues are addressed Sam shouldn't start.

That link you provided doesnt seem to say much considering Sanchez was only slightly worse then Aron rodgers who also arguably had a pretty bad oline that year. Shit accroding to that under pressure list we should bring fitzpatrick back hes a top 10 under pressure qb

I think the OLine issues are overstated assuming a healthy Beachum, Winters being totally debilitated last year is 100% this year and our new Center being 10x better than Johnson, this line will be functionally adequate.

Sam is light years better than Mark-again I was a fan- and he’s better able to handle protection break downs.

If we’re waiting to start him until we have the Cowboys or Eagles lines from the past few years, might as well make him Hack 2.0 and sit him for 2 years.

It’s not happening. He should start, he’ll survive and he’ll be better for it.

What I meant regarding coddled was that he really didn't have to answer for his poor play as much as guys who played other positions.

I was a fan only because he had a Jets jersey on. Still think we could have done better by him but im concerned about the Oline. Winters has yet to play a 16 game season for us and Long has never played a 16 game season. Kelvin is dealing with a foot injury that is being written off as "sore foot" which is clear bullshit and has had concussion issue in the past plus other issues and has only had 2 16 game season in his carear. These for me do not leave the most warm in my heart feelings lol.

Also im not saying we need a top notch oline i would just like to see him grow a bit before we stick him behind OUR oline.

    That’s fair.

For you, though, I would be prepared to be disappointed because I think he’s going to start.

For me, I’m anxious to see what he’s got.

Love for him to go smack the Lions Monday night.

I dont remember anyone having to answer for poor play under rex sadly. Sanchez took his beating through the media and fan base. He wasnt built for it that was clear early on.

You need a delicate balance with such an inexperienced QB obviously not ready to take the reigns. Even in the testosterone fueled NFL.

They were right not to roast him to the world in hopes of not shattering any confidence he may have had. They made a huge investment in him and while one could say “let him sink or swim” I think they were trying to put swimmies on him.

Ultimately he was a failure but there was plenty of blame to go around. It wasn’t all him.
