I think there are a few Jet fans that will agree he was one of our greatest but still a bit of a compiler. It's not an unfair critique.

Longevity and versatility are not traits that should be considered a detriment when evaluating a career.

Not true mes amis. I know that I am not alone in wanting great skill position players for offense. I wanted Kamara. I wanted Cook (or any number of WRs in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018). I loved Fournette. There were several RBs I coveted for the Jets this year. But now that we have a FQB we have to protect him. It wouldn't make one whit of difference if we had a RB, #1 WR and TE who were All Pro level if Darnold was on the sidelines, or done because of the pounding he had taken because we failed to protect him. Darnold is only 21. It's a little early to be going into panic mode, isn't it? Just because we don't agree with every post of yours doesn't mean that we all don't care about offensive skill position players.

Also, if you'll recall when there have been discussions over the last several years that we need all first draft picks on the OL, I've constantly been one of those saying that is nonsense. We had that situation back about 8-10 years ago and we had no cap space for elite playmakers on either side of the ball because we had so much tied up in the OL. I pointed that out and talked about how we needed offensive skill position players. I am definitely not one of those who think we need to have an All Pro OL and then can get by with mediocre skill position players.

Ok, they shouldn't take a LT for the sake of getting a LT. But if there's a LT on the board who is rated highly, I believe they should take him. We need the next Brick who will anchor our OL for the next ~10 years. I'm 99.9% sure that Beachum's not that guy. Right now, there's a few LT prospects who could be first round picks.

LOTS of RBs got 1,000 yards per season during that time period. If a RB stays healthy and gets as many carries as Curtis did, he ought to get a 1,000 yards per season. Look at Curtis' career ypc average. It's nothing special. Look at how few long TD runs he had. Go back and look at footage and watch how he'd fall down or run out of bounds when a defender looked sternly at him. Curtis was not a great RB. He was very good at everything, but not great at anything. He worked hard to stay in great shape and was a great teammate and citizen. He also was very lucky in terms of not suffering injuries, but his running style contributed to that. For Pete's sake it took his own mother criticizing him in the media calling him lazy for him to have his best season and win the rushing title.

I've heard compiler referenced before, and it drives me crazy lol.
He only played 10 seasons and retired early. Emmitt to me was a compiler who intentionally played longer to try to break records (kinda like Br*dy trying to do now).

The game was different back then and training and medical advances have permitted longer careers. And I loved Curtis but can you really put him in the class of a Walter Payton or Barry Sanders or the like just because of his career yardage? Again, clearly an HOFer but he wasn't elite like some of the greats, he stuck around and was productive for a good long time.

No argument that Emmitt was a compiler. Too.

If they ought to get 1k a year, how come only Curtis and Barry ever managed to do it 10 straight seasons?
SOJF mentality. lol. Not a great RB, but in the HOF. ok dude

No, they weren't detriments but they have to be taken into consideration. McNeil was a MUCH better RB. If he had stayed as healthy as Curtis, no one would be talking about Curtis. I give Curtis credit because he contributed to his longevity by working extremely hard to stay in tip top shape. His running style (avoiding big hits), going down on first contact (not fighting for extra yardage) or running out of bounds kept him healthy. That said, with that running style I think he cost the Jets a number of wins. Many games he left a lot of yards on the ground. Most of his yards came against weak opponents. He usually came up small vs the better teams and in big games. He almost never fumbled, but when he did, it was in a huge game or cost the Jets big time. (1998 playoffs vs Denver and the first game of the 1999 season that caused Vinny's achilles tear). I'm sure if stats on that were kept he would have set an NFL record for the most carries for negative yardage as well.

Nah. You straight up had the nerve to state that Bell is "old" and "beaten down" as if he's a "washed up" player.

You can't make this type of stuff up.

What a piece of crap post that was.

Over the past two years (including playoffs).

    • 2,983 rushing yards.
    • 4.49 average yards per carry.
    • 19 rushing TD's.
    • 173 receptions.
    • 1,372 receiving yards.
    • 5 TD receptions.
    • 4,325 Yards From Scrimmage.
    • 24 Offensive Touchdowns.

These (elite) top tier numbers from Le'Veon Bell are not that of an "old", "too many miles", "washed up", "beaten down" blah blah blah etc etc etc type of player.

Those #'s are the numbers of one of the NFL's top 5 offensive skilled players within the game today who's still only 26 years of age and showing zero signs of wear and tear while coming off of back to back Pro Bowl & All-Pro seasons.

To say otherwise is not only delusional but completely clueless.

When did 10 seasons qualify as 'longevity'?

  16. Lol..relax man.My comments about the skills are a seperate entity than this whole Bell debate. Im not 100% for Bell either but i do think some folks are overlooking how good of a player he has been despite the risks & perils.I was commenting more on how the skills are devalued & the OL is overvalued on a more global scale..

I wouldnt include you in the anti skill contingent.Youve been right there screaming for O help for quite a few years now. Also make no mistake i want a great OL too.But some people fixate & literally see no purpose for great skill & its often maddening.Im still pissed about the Darren Mcfadden debate from 08 so dont mind me :)

Lots of reasons. Some of those RBs got injured, some retired, some lost some of their best OL to injuries. Go back and look at the stats. Every year there were 8-10 RBs (or more) who rushed for a thousand yards or right at a thousand yards.

Since forever. The average career of NFL RBs is 3 years. You really ought to do some research before you post. You're making yourself look dumb.

You keep regurgitating stats not realizing you are making my point for me.

    Thanks.
