This fan base does not value skill positions.FQB,elite OL & a guy to move the chains are the only things that get acknowledged. Everything else is just a byproduct.Ive been screaming for a #1 skill since Santana Moss turned out not be one..it just falls on deaf ears.Even in 09-11 when we had a top OL folks were screaming to replace Slauson & Woody/Hunter.Little realizing we were deteriorating into the Clyde Gates David Nelson show. Guarantee if you took the exact schematics & level of play of Bell but made him a RG it’d be a whole different take.
This RB class is going to be good. Jon Taylor from Wisconsin is a NJ guy. Bet the Jets have their eyes on him.
I agree that RB is way more important than many here give credit for. It's why I beat the drum two years ago for the Jets to go after Fournette, McCaffrey, Cook, or Kamara when it was clear they weren't going to take a QB. Having a stud RB who can run and catch takes a huge load off the QB and makes the offense much harder to defend. But whether Bell is worth the money and headaches he would bring, and whether he can provide 4-5 years of top quality running is another matter. To me, this seems pretty similar to the Revis situation, and "once burned, twice shy" fits here. Even if they signed him, they're not going to win a SB this year, so that's one more year of his production gone and shortens the window. For all the reasons you've given I want the Jets to get a stud RB to pair with Sam, but Bell isn't the answer at the price he's going to demand/cost.
Mack is gonna make Mac happen. I'm already bracing myself for the inevitable crying that will ensue from those who want to draft an LT in next year's 1st rd.
Read somewhere that Taylor isnt draft eligible till 2020. As of right now the RBs considered potential 1st rounders are Bryce Love,Rodney Anderson & LJ Scott. There are a few others who could step up as well.
Why are you saying this "fan base"? All I care about is offensive skill positions--QB, gamebreaking RB, big fast WR, small superfast WR, athletic TE, dynamic punt/kick returner. I think we all want that. Just don't want an old RB (in relative terms) with lots of miles on his legs who is known to be somewhat of a dick looking for his last HUGE payday before he dogs it. And when the diarrhea stat/wikipedia driveler trots out all Bell's stats he making the case for him HAVING those miles on his legs.
Well said. Only Jet fans will cry for 10+ years (over a decade of whining) about not having an offense because all of our assets have been spent on defense over the years, only to then complain about potentially landing a Le'Veon Bell to pair alongside a potential Franchise signal caller in Sam Darnold despite the fact we'll be ranked #1 amongst all NFL teams in available cap space; as if we're not allowed to spend (any of) it on a game changing, dynamic, playmaking Offensive weapon. It's laughable. These guys are acting as if Le'Veon Bell is not only the #1 All-Purpose, Dual-Threat, Featured 3-Down back within the game today but also a top 5 NFL offensive skilled player within the entire league. It's laughable. I'll tell you what. I get it now. These same people who are 100% against the thought of Le'Veon Bell potentially becoming a Jet while completing re-vamped and igniting our entire offensive attack were probably the same exact SOJ fans who hated the idea of Bill Parcells bringing in a 25 year old Curtis Martin with a big Free Agency contact all because he was "too old", "just a RB" and/or "not drafted". It's a joke. • Joe Montana & Roger Craig. • Troy Aikman & Emmitt Smith. • Jim Kelly & Thurman Thomas. • John Elway & Terrell Davis. • Peyton Manning & Edgerrin James. • Kurt Warner & Marshall Faulk. Maybe some of these posters never appreciated the game of Football enough to the point of idolizing and being envious of those elite QB/RB duo's mentioned above... I'm just thankful I've never been that type of fan who wrote off NFL greatness. Sam Darnold/Le'Veon Bell as a 1-2 punch of a QB/RB duo/tandem? Hah. Sign me up. How can you hate on that.
Basis for a 3 Team Trade....maybe throw in an offensive lineman from the Raiders to the Jets for depth purposes. Jets get Khalil Mack Raiders get Dante Fowler Jermaine Kearse 1st rd rd pick from Jets in 2019 Jags get Teddy Bridgewater
Nice rant... but last time I checked Curtis is 4th all time on the RB list and is most certainly the best running back to wear the green and white. He's not the greatest Jet of all time, that I will agree with, but he is without an inkling of doubt the best back in team history. ...and before you say anything about age I watched Freeman play a ton.
Yeah, some of us saw these players play and don't simply google stats and Wikipedia pages. Was a different time and a different game but I thought Snell, Boozer and Freeman were all better. I loved Curtis but he was a bit of a complier.
I had a Freeman poster in my room as a kid, but I'd definitely agree Curtis was hands down better, and the best RB we've had.
Still naming players and you are making 0 points. Those RBs were drafted by those teams and were not FA pickups outside of Faulk (via trade) ... Marshall was 26. Boring.
A complier? He only played 10 full seasons, the first of which won him ROY, and the last won him a rushing title. He was incredibly solid every single year he played, putting up 1k per season for 10 straight years tieing Barry Sanders for best all time. Emmitt was a compiler....If Curtis played nearly as long he'd have all-time rushing record. Definitely one of the most complete RB's of all time, and best in Jets history.
One of my all time favorite games was the 6-0 game against Pittsburgh in a blizzard when we were all covered with snow and Curtis rushed for 175 yards.
