Hansen is not going to make the team. Johnson and McBride both have passed him. He doesn’t return kicks. He’s a goner
There’s a reason most teams have shitty O-lines....to get a good one you have to draft them in the first round. For the most part (there are obviously exceptions). But its MUCH more rare to hit on a late round offensive lineman than it is to hit on a late round skills player. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I disagree with that notion. I think usually OTs have to be taken in the 1st round, although there are quite a few very good ones who weren't. I don't believe that to be true at all for interior OL. We have seen what happened with the Jets when they had a bunch of first-round draft picks on their OL. They had no money (cap space)to pay elite skill position players. When you are overpaying your OL (and when they are drafted in the first round you wind up overpaying them not only on their initial contract but every contract thereafter if they're good), then it skews your team salary structure. Dallas has several first round picks on their OL and they couldn't afford to pay their best WR. I think they wound up having to let one or two of their OL go as well, but I may be mistaken about that.
No way. Not a damn chace. Dude has been in the league for going on 6 years now and outside of consistently being hurt, injured and banged up he's pretty much done nothing outside of 60 catches and 2 TD's (39 games). He's also a turning 30 currently 29 year old career journeyman of a WR. No thanks. I'd much rather roll the dice on untapped younger potential when it comes to Hansen, ArDarius and/or Peake. That's if I were a gambling man I would.
Assuming they keep 7: Robby Anderson Terrelle Pryor Quincy Enunwa Jermaine Kearse Ardarius Stewart Chad Hansen Charone Peake I have high hopes for Tre McBride, but if he doesn't produce in preseason games, I think it's hard for him to make it. I also think there's a good chance that either Hansen, Peake or Stewart get bumped out for either Andre Roberts or Lucky Whitehead considering that we might need one of them at KR/PR. If Cannon keeps up his fumbling issues, then I feel like Andre or Lucky could be a lock. I really like Stewart and Hansen, but neither have really done anything. I feel like it's just lack of opportunities, but at the end of the day, it is what it is. I have always like Peake due to his long frame and catching ability. He never really stood out except for last game. I actually don't think that catch will be the reason he stays. I'm planning on him showing some more in the next game. Charles johnson has made the most plays it seems like, but the vet just doesn't seem worth keeping over any of the young talent.
Which is dumb. I don't understand why anyone would keep 4 TEs, one of our worst and under-used positions. What could the 4th TE provide that the 3rd didn't? You need one for blocking, and one for catching. Maybe a 3rd if they can be a hybrid, or they have so much talent that they need to be kept. Herndon has been making plays all summer, Tomlinson has proved to be a decent blocker and usable FB, and Leggett is a draft pick with high hopes coming back from injury last year. There are 3 WR positions at any given time on the field and 1 TE position for virtually all plays. That's a 3:1 ratio which should hold to the amount of players in the position you keep. If you keep 4 TEs, you should be keeping 12 WRs. That's obviously ridiculous. 7 WRs at most, 3 TEs at most and that's pushing it.
I like McBride to but I remember him making a good catch in the last game. That's about it. I understand he's been solid in practice but <see David Clowney>. I am concerned about our incumbents, however. I'd honestly rather keep McBride over a guy like Hansen, but I don't know that it's likely to happen. If McBride starts fielding KR/PR then I think there's a chance.
Those were my same exact 7 receivers as well. And I feel and believe, rightfully so. I never understood the types of fans who first harp and complain about draft picks "not working" only to then, thereafter; pressure their GM to quit on 3rd & 2nd year players... But only for opposing GM's failures or previous teams castoffs. It's just hypocritical to me. ArDarius, Hansen & Peake are all recent draft picks. And me just naturally being a fan of the two ACC & SEC College Football Conferences; there's just no way, can i just quit on an Alabama kid only heading into his 2nd year in ArDarius Stewart (2017) - Nor should i with a WR prospect out of Clemson (a football program that's been a feeding ground for NFL GM's looking for big time NFL WR's) in Charone Peake: Who's now in a show me season while heading into his (that infamous) 3rd year. At least not for a Charles Johnson/etc type of unknown WR i can't. I'm not willing to see us quit on Chad Hansen neither. Not because of a quiet offseason I can't. He's (just like ArDarius) only heading into his 2nd NFL season (2017). And I love his story too. Put it this way. He's not someone you quit on (see for yourself). How could you? (Quoted from Wiki). "Hansen's lone scholarship offer to play college football was from Idaho State University. As a true freshman at Idaho State in 2013, he played in 11 games and had 45 receptions for 501 yards and three touchdowns. After the season, he transferred to the University of California, Berkeley to join the football team as a walk-on. After sitting out 2014, due to transfer rules, Hansen had 19 receptions for 249 yards and a touchdown over 10 games in 2015. As a junior in 2016, he was named first team All-Pac-12 after recording 92 receptions for 1,249 yards and 11 touchdowns in 10 games. After the season, he decided to forgo his senior year and enter the 2017 NFL Draft". Robby Anderson. Jermaine Kearse. Quincy Enunwa. Terrell Pryor. ArDarius Stewart. Charone Peake. Chad Hansen. Just my thoughts.
He has 4 catches for 40 yards so far. Had a couple nice catches against the Redskins. Charles Johnson leads the WR's with 5 catches for 67 yards and a TD. Peake is the only other WR with a TD. They actually have not thrown to WR's much the first 2 pre-season games. Somebody stepping up against the Giants on Friday could earn them a roster spot.
Quoted from Wiki: Tennessee Titans McBride was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the seventh round, 245th overall, in the 2015 NFL Draft. On September 5, 2015, he was waived and was signed to the practice squad the next day. On November 17, 2015, McBride was elevated to the active roster. McBride was waived by the Titans on September 5, 2016.[8] The next day, he was signed to the Titans' practice squad.[9] He was promoted to the active roster on November 1, 2016.[10] On September 2, 2017, McBride was waived by the Titans.[11] Chicago Bears On September 3, 2017, McBride was claimed off waivers by the Chicago Bears.[12] He was waived on September 23, 2017 and was re-signed to the practice squad.[13][14] He was promoted back to the active roster on October 2, 2017.[15] He was waived on November 28, 2017.[16] New York Jets On December 1, 2017, McBride was signed to the New York Jets' practice squad.[17] He signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on January 1, 2018.[18] I'd absolutely be disgusted as a Jet fan with the release of either Peake, ArDarius or Hansen for career castoffs such as Charles Johnson (29 years old) and/or a 7th round journeyman who's 6'0 and drafted out of William & Marry college... who's now on his 3rd team in 4 years. McBride & Charles Johnson? And as fans we're actually talking about getting rid of Alabama & Clemson 2nd & 3rd year WR prospects in ArDarius & Peake and another 2nd year prospect out of Cal in Hansen... And for what, for who, these guys? Everyone talks up the thought of home grown draft talent but yet hates the thought of developing, coaching up and tapping into untapped potential. I will seriously question our entire front office is they're to quit on their own 3rd and two 2nd year draft picks just for other GM's draft failures or team castoffs being 29 years soon to be 30 year old and/or a 7th round no name 6'0 kid out of William & Marry? Now on his 3rd team after only 4 years? Umm... No?
Stewart's starts the season suspended so he gets a break in avoiding being cut. Kearse, Enuwa, Pryor and Robinson are the only guaranteed spots. My guess is the 5th spor is: 5. Roberts That leaves one or two spots left between Hansen, McBride, Peake and Johnson. My guess is the order of those four are 1. McBride 2. Peake 3. Hansen 4. Johnson Leaving us with McBride and Peake competing for the last 1 or 2 roster spots. If there is a tie my guess is the higher draft pick in Hansen wins any tiebreaker. Even more interesting might be the CB position where Robinson, a guy most thought had no chance, absent his suspension might be the favorite to get the last spot. Instead he will be doing a Stewart.
I don't want no 6'0/189 lb 30 year old sloppy leftovers WR in Roberts who's now on his 5th team in 8 years, or no 29 soon to be 30 year old career castoff WR in Johnson and/or no former 7th round no namer out of William & Marry who's on his 3rd team in 4 years type of WR in McBride... Not over the likes of a 2nd year kid out Alabama in ArDarius, a 2nd year prospect out of California in Hansen or a 3rd year player out of Clemson in Peake I don't.
Ardarius is the one I would leave out..sorry kid has to run a better route as he almost caused an interception..otherwise I agree you go with youth or bust While the Owners/FO are at can they tell Toilet Bowles to play younger players with talent MORE?? How many touches in game has Hansen Stewart Peake have in total?? Your HC just plays the Vets forever...feh
Yea but in regards to ArDarius Stewart he's only a 2nd year player and a former 3rd round pick (2017). Also put up 117 receptions for 1,564 receiving yards and 12 TD's (combined) during his final two seasons @ Alabama. I'd say that these two games (both against SEC defenses) were his two best college performances. I'd say that most 2nd and 3rd year WR's aren't yet polished route runners on an NFL level just yet but with ArDarius imo he plays with too much heart, has too much speed and too much untapped potential to not give him a chance to become developed and coached up.
We have a good problem that our WR room is so crowded, I just hope they don't off-load talent for "experience". Not to say I don't value experience, but there's only one skill that can overcome talent as a WR and that's route running (see Keenan Allen, see Jermaine Kearse). None of these guys on the bubble are technicians so I would prefer we take the guys with the highest ceiling. To everyone who said Roberts, LOL. I'd rather see Mike Pennel out there returning ricks before we wasted a spot on Roberts, come on now.
In the grand scheme of things it does not make a difference. The jets have a luxury that most teams don’t have, 4 quality WRs that are going to be matchup problems for a lot of teams. Whether they give the last spots to McBride, Stewart, Peake, Hansen, it’s a matter of who can play special teams. I believe our top 4 guys are going to have excellent years if the QB situation is figured out correctly by Bowles.
The tired, old and totally wrong comment that Bowles plays nothing but vets. Sometimes I wonder if some fans even watch the games
