1) rookie season 2) in a RBBC situation 3) Speed + moves get neutralized because of his lack of size Hard to say what he'll become because of point #1 but I think he is more of a situational guy and/ or 3rd down back.
from what i have seen this year it is hard to categorizes leon as a starter.... could he be used kind of like faulk from NE?
I think he'll be a situational, speed guy, but he'll probably be a serviceable back for a few years. He's not a feature back, but he's not going to become obsolete back in the league. He'll probably be an average, serviceable, backup/3rd down running back...
For some reason we all seem to compare our guys to the Pats guys but that was the first comparison I made to myself.
Option 2. I can't see a guy like him becoming an effective full-time starter (Warrick Dunn is the exception, not the example.)
I would definitely lean towards 3rd down specialist/scat back, but I do have one question - anyone know how he compares in size to what Tiki Barber was when he broke in? barber was viewed as a 3rd down specialist only, and obviously became a top regular back, so maybe Leon has a chance?
Interesting - it would seem that Leon is if anything more solid than Tiki. The shortness does hurt, however - it's harder to run plays over and around big linebackers to a short runner/receiver.
The option I wanted wasn't there. I think he will be around for a couple of seasons. Maybe be used on STS more if Miller plays at CB or is gone.
News Flash: Leon Washington is probably about 5 foot 7 and weighs 185 pounds. He is not as big as he is listed as most guys aren't. I stood toe to toe with Erik Coleman once and that guy is really short. He is listed at 5 foot 10 inches tall, but he looked more like 5 foot 7 or 8 inches tall...
I think he can be a full time starter. We might all feel that way if we could see him on a consistant basis. Just my oppinion.
Leon will be a better version of Kevin Faulk, leon washington might not be 5'9 but most likely he is 205 rarely do players lie about their weight only person i could think of Jerome Bettis saying he 2555 when he is propbably something like 270-280.
I'm in agreement so far with FITM. He's a 3rd down back for the time being. Unless he "breaks out" somehow, he's not going to be here when his contract expires. He's small, and as was said, Dunn is the exception, not the rule. He's not in Tiki Barber's league. Barber isn't tall, but he is stocky enough to take the big hits. The biggest thing they have in common is the ability to put the football on the ground. Tiki has fixed his problem, can Leon? That's a huge factor. Leon is nowhere near a feature back, but I guess there are people around here who believe he is, since there are people around here who think Houston is a feature back too. Our future at RB is not on this team. This is something I've said repeatedly this year, but it bears repeating. Having that extra second rounder next draft is going to be critical to our success next year. We should be using it to gain draft position for a true feature back. Our other needs have started to settle, such as NT, and CB. We don't have stars, but guys like DRob have begun to prove they are servicable enough that we con concentrate on the dire need at RB early, and hope to get lucky or use FA to fill in the smaller gaps on D.
I really don't think so........ I would really like to see more of Washington on punt returns, he was back there while Dwight was hurt at the beginning of the year.
