Happy to see Bryan make strides this year. Hopefully the early part of the draft will continue to improve that front 7.
Call me a Bryan Thomas hater since he had to be selected over Ed Reed...But 11 good games to me doesn't merit this... Yes he has finally produced since Abraham is gone and the 3-4 clearly fits him well, I like his size. But I would of much rather make a run at Adalius Thomas this offseason rather than keep Bryan, I feel he can be upgraded really. 11 solid games doesn't wipe out the previous years to me, although being behind Abe and Ellis it was tough to play. I hope he can progress even more in the coming years, I just really want to know the $$ of the contract.
Seemed like a dumb pick by Bradway at the time, but it's worked out. Of course it helps that he plays a lot more now. By the way, have there been any John Abraham sightings since Week 1?
Jets | Thomas contract update Fri, 1 Dec 2006 10:32:37 -0800 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports New York Jets LB Bryan Thomas' contract extension is for five years and $25 million, including $9 million in up-front money, according to NFL sources.
He's played well, I'm curious how much money he got though. I'm hopeful the new regime didn't overpay him because while he has vastly improved this season he still hasn't reached that 1st rounder explosive potential. Also, a note to a comment above, if I remember correctly Ramsey was signed to an extension for next season prior to this year.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2682516 the deal is over 5 years, he can earn up to 25 Mio $
With the team showing improvement and momentum going our way, it should be easier for Tanny to get more guys signed, even after the draft in April. This team and coaching staff have tremendous upside potential and the players know it. Outsiders see it too. It's easier when you don't have to "hard sell" the possibilities for a run at a championship. This is a team on the move and any good player will want to be a part of it. That will only increase our chances at some really good personnel.
A perfect example of however great of a motivator Herm might have been - he just wasn't very good at developing young talent.
It depends on how the contract is written up. He gets 9 million guaranteed which is not bad for a starting OLB. The rest of the money is probably back loaded, or comprised of bonuses with small salaries. With Mr. T. I'm sure this will be nothing more than a blip on the salary cap the next few years, and if he continues to improve it will be redone in 1-2 years. JMHO....
However to be fair, all those previous years we were in the 4-3 with no position for him, and he has shown to be at least a good starter
Oh yeah, looks like that could be a hometown discount if he continues to improve....I like the signing.
This is the first year he's received an opportunity to start, playing in an entirely different system, and he's played well. He was always seen as a long-term project, so it's certainly possible that this is the real Bryan Thomas. I'm glad to see this get done, Bryan has played well this year and as he continues to get experience at the position, will develop into an even better player.
I anticipate the leak of the exact structure of his contract. A lot of us thought that this would be the main purpose of our offseason project, and now that the team is set on Bryan Thomas, it's interesting to see what our exact investment is.
