Jets were totally gonna help him with that but it was raining that day. Then Halo Wars 2 came out and they forgot. Sorry, dude.
The fact that you are 23 and are just deciding to fix your throwing motion, throws up some serious alarms for me. What the fuck were you doing the first two years? Or in college rather?
If Hackenberg suddenly becomes a genuine NFL quarterback after working with Christensen in one off-season it will be a gigantic black eye for every one of his coaches at both PSU and especially the Jets. Somehow I don't see it, but one way or another I expect that he'll get the chance to try.
Yes, it sounds as if he threw the Jets coaching staff under the bus, but let's take a step back. One of the weaknesses of the current CBA is that it prevents football-related contact between players and coaches during the off-season. That's the time when the coaching staff should be able to work with a project QB like Hackenberg to refine his mechanics, work on drills etc., but the CBA prevents it. As a result, guys like Hackenberg have to go to their own throwing gurus in the off-season. There really isn't enough time during OTAs, training camp and the season for the staff to give a project QB the individualized attention he needs. I understand that the CBA provision is designed to prevent obsessive coaches from taking away a player's off-season, but there should be an exception for maybe first- and second-year players.
Don't think so, he's done this on his own before. Though I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't really on his own. Not sure if this would fall outside of the coaching that is allowed in the offseason. The whole on his own story may be because they're not allowed to be coached in the mandatory offseason
They hooked him up with Madden, just like Petty. If he fails to improve from playing Madden then its on him.
Here's what the CBA says (Article 21): "Prior to the commencement of the Club’s official offseason workout program: ...(ii) players are not permitted to participate in Club-supervised workouts, Club-supervised practices, group or individual meetings with coaches, group or individual film study with coaches, or group or individual playbook study with coaches...(iv) players’ activities may not be directed or supervised by any coaches." "In addition, nothing herein shall prevent a Club from permitting an individual player to work out on his own ...at any time after the Club’s official offseason workout program has ended, using Club facilities if he wishes to do so, subject to the restrictions set forth in the immediately preceding sentence of this Subsection." That's awfully restrictive. It sure sounds like no contact between the end of the prior season and the beginning of OTAs, and no contact between the end of OTAs and training camp. Come to think of it, it reads like a domestic-violence restraining order.
Neither him NOR Petty should have been drafted. The Jets did neither kid any favors. Gailey should have his ancient ass kicked for this fck up. Macc owns some of this too. Shouldn't have drafted either kid knowing there wasn't a plan in place or anyone capable of developing them.
