Thanks for sharing. They gave us an Elite Draft rating. They love the Nickerson pick.

  2. Hope everyone had a safe enjoyable draft weekend.I give the draft a B-.

Darnold at 3 is a no brainer home run. The DL picks made me scratch my head but value & projection wise its hard to get upset. They fit the new culture & will be contributors. I hate that its somehow ok to go seemingly this whole regimes existence w garbage on O but the second a hole pops up on D(safety last year/DL this year) they throw every available resource at the problem. There is clearly a bias toward defense & while it seems to be Bowles the 2 of them are tied at the hip & will go down together.

I liked the TE & loved the Cannon pick. Not sure why so many are writing him off.Scouting reports saying hes a home run threat everytime he touches the ball.Watched some film on him & he love what he brings. His floor is a good KR/PR but his ceiling could he best RB on this team.I was relieved that we at least gave SOME help to Darnold in the form of weapons.

I see a bright side to the lack of edge/OL.Just like they did w QB from last offseason to this one wherein by not addressing it they compounded the problem & put a bulllseye on it w the media & fans.Perhaps doing so puts a scouting priority on the position wherein the team is doing a more thorough evaluation at that spot w involvement from the likes of MAC/Bates.look at it this way..at least DL is out of the way now along w CB/S & ILB.

Once this team is out of contention for yet another year, all the talk will be about addressing the OL & to a lesser extent edge rusher.W.100 million in cap space & another high pick theyll seemingly have no choice.Yes this notion suggests “kicking the can down the road” for another season..but consider the following..

1.New scheme on O-Might have caused pause considering its the 3rd OC in 3 years.Significant young competition at all spots(except OL).May make sense to let things breath for evaluation/development purposes.

2.Darnold needs an offense built for him-W his playing style Darnold is going to need very specific personnel including upfront.Given the fact that hes only 20, & team wont know exactly what hes gonna look like until he starts practicing, self evaluation is crucial. It sure will be alot easier to get offensive FA’s to come here w Darnold in fold.

    3. Weak OL class that gets even weaker when considering jets now run a specialized version of the ZBS.Jets need OL that are fit for zone, get initial surge off the snap & can move well laterally in pass protection for moving pockets & the like. There werent many options at all for this prototype.

4.Something was gonna get overlooked & deprioritized regardless. Hopefully next draft is OL/edge/Off playmaker heavy. That should be simple enough terms for Mac

I thought it was that, I guessed the cynical New Yorker part, but wasn't sure on the Missouri bit and after checking google maps was a bit more confused lol

    Wait! What?

Mac made the trade that affected at least the first ten picks of the draft and forced the hands of the two teams ahead of them. If you ask me, he put on the clinic on how to manipulate the draft.

67 year old Gittleman made a win now pick with Barkley , that even if its works (and how great is it going to work...Giants play-off appearance in 2018?) leaves the Giants lacking in the long run. If Darnold works out, Gittleman's rep will be mud, even if Barkley turns out to be a HOFer.
Hernandez at the top of the 2nd round is an apparent no brainer for a team with serious line issues. After that, what is so special about what Gittleman did? You may not like what Macc did in rounds 3-7, but Gittleman didn't put on a clinic. Are you sure that you didn't mean that Macc schooled Gittleman?

You're buying into Giants' spin control because they passed on Darnold.

    The Giants aced this draft.

Barkley is the best player in the draft.

    Hernandez is a beast.

    Lorenzo Carter is a stud.

They took two DTs which was the deepest position in this draft.

If Darnold becomes a top 10 QB out the Jets made a good pick, if Richmond even becomes a regular starter the Giants hit a home run.

I liked a few of the picks the Giants made, namely Barkley, Hernandez & Hill but their draft hinges on two factors, Darnold and Eli somehow rediscovering himself at 38 yrs old and coming off a few bad years. Barkley could be great but it’s a bad draft if Eli continues to suck while Darnold becomes a top 10 QB for your cross town rival.

You don’t get many opportunities to get top level franchise QB prospects, Giants just blew one of them.

Agreed. While it looks like the Giants had a really nice draft (they did), the love for it will be tied directly to Eli's performance the next few years. If he plays like a guy who should retire, the fans will turn on this draft and blast the team for not taking Darnold or Rosen.

I gotta go with an A here.

I was concerned we gave up too much in that trade, and that it wasn't going to be worth it.
My even bigger concern was that we might settle for that fraud Rosen after having given up that much.
Both those concerns were alleviated with the Darnold pick. Turned out to be a great trade, and we got a great prospect to build with.
Potentially huge moment for this franchise. Pairing Josh McCown with Darnold is a great scenario, and I gotta applaud Mac on this.

    - Also really like the value on the Anderson trade.

    - Nickerson looking promising as a slot CB, and adds a lot of speed in our secondary.

    - I'm looking forward to seeing what Herndon can do, as I'm not really a believer in Leggett.

    - In terms of UDFA, Flowers was a nice add.

    - We drafted two guys from schools I never even heard of, so obviously our scouting process is very comprehensive.

Would've love Oline of course, and most of these guys need a lot of development. Not sure why we traded away our 5th for extra 6ths either.
But the positives outweigh those concerns in my view.

If Barkley isn’t a HOFer and Lauletta is as average as most people think he is, this will go down as the biggest Giants botch in history.

Maybe your right about some or all of those players. I don't know.

But you are seriously downplaying the significance of a franchise QB. And if the Giants struggle because the don't have one, and if Darnold becomes one, Gittleman will be one of the biggest goats in Giants history

I'd give this draft a B+. Darnold was an A pick followed by some intriguing picks, which I collectively give a B. I didnt think they would get a good pass rusher in the 3rd because most pass rushers aren't available that late, but I assumed that we would go offensive line in the 3rd or 4th round. Although we hate drafting more defensive linemen, we did need some this year and addressed that. I loved the Nickerson pick because I thought we were very shallow at corner after Claiborne and Johnson and because I think Skrine sucks/overpaid. Overall, it appears that we drafted some very good role players that could be starters, but nevertheless should contribute to this team a lot.

All in all they have entered year 2 of the rebuilding process and have addressed a lot of needs in the draft and free agency. We still need to improve our offensive line and get a pass rusher, but I did not think every single weakness would get addressed by year 2. We still have UDFAs that Mac could find a diamond in the rough, but assuming thats not the case then we need to focus on that next year as we have to have a playoffs or bust mentality. I like that we are building a nucleus here and aren't rushing to be competitive only to have it come crashing down when players get old/too expensive. We will go into year 3 with a young team and a ton of cap still.

Taking Lauletta admits QB was a position of interest. So you too have Davis Webb graded higher than Darnold, Rosen, and Allen?

I’m not sure I am crowning Gettleman just yet.

Eli is driving the car for another two years at least but I do like Webb.

Based upon the value placed on OL according the this draft, you can be pretty sure that any OL worth anything will be locked up by their team. FA will be for mediocre, at best, or overpriced vets on the downside.

No I am not downplaying the significance of a franchise QB,

    Phillip Rivers went 4th overall
    Rothlisberger was pick 11

You do not need to use a top five pick to get a QB, especially if that QB is not the top one on your board.

Not for nothing but the draft is just as much of a crapshoot. You pray to end up with a starter if you’re picking outside the second round (and yes there will be starters available in FA).

I won't knock Macc for that. He had to trade up, unless he owns a crystal ball. It was reasonable to assume - and prudent, based upon "worst case scenario" - that the QB he wanted would be gone by #6. I too would have preferred Rosen and the 2nd rounders, but there was no way to know it would play out that way. I'm okay with Darnold...it's the lack of drafting OL or pass rusher that bugs me.

We could have stayed put and taken Nelson.

We needed a FQB. Had we taken Mahomes last year, staying at 6 and taking Nelson would've been a good move. Spilt milk now.
