A+ We got 3 future all-pros, so I give it an A+. As for the offensive line....it's not as bad as some are making it out to be, so please stop the crying. Its not like our offensive line was as bad as the Giants. Fucking Flowers. Lol 3 Future All-Pros Sam Darnold Parry Nickerson Nathan Shepherd
I'm actually really happy with Mac's approach post-2016. I wish it had started in 2015, but I also think Woody Johnson was driving the "win now" philosophy and didn't agree to truly rebuild until 2016 self-destructed. The team is one of the youngest in the league, and the Jets have been consistently avoiding crippling contracts. Just about every contract Mac hands out gives us an out after two years; three for the "elite" players. The Jets have cap flexibility to take advantage of opportunities that present itself, but they seem unwilling to hand out stupid deals. They could've done this with Kirk Cousins and the Jets smartly exercised restraint. The one and only problem I have with Mac is his refusal to do more than serviceable at offensive line. We have a bunch of guys on the line who are average to above average at best, but there are no stars on this line. Best case scenario is we get competent, penalty free play and hope that our specialist positions step up to the plate. At worst our QB will get killed and we'll have a non-existant running game. Honestly our offensive line is more incentive to play it safe with Darnold. He should start at some point this season, but perhaps after the bye rather than week 1 or week 4 even.
He didn't have to do anything he didn't want though, he choose a QB this time, so in 3 drafts he went Williams, Adams and then Darnald. Who would you have selected with the number 6's the previous two years ? I like the bloke I think he slowly building us up the right way, he seems to have a long term plan in mind and is going about his business in the correct manner. People screamed that we were shit last season but won 5 games and really were a few 4th quarter errors or cheatings off another 3 or 4 wins, now you know I wanted us to proper tank and get the rebuilding job done over two or three seasons with some juicy high draft picks, after 30 years of being mostly shit, there was hardly a big rush to make us great, I am still patient and not team changing any time soon. I might even be open to changing my mind about Bowles, he does need to stop with the bad in game decisions but the players do seem to put it all in for him on the pitch and that isn't a bad quality to have.
How about week 12 or 13.. By then hopefully our all pro Oline will have figured out how to run a zone blocking scheme.
I'm hoping the personnel are better suited to zone blocking. No idea to be honest. It will be brutal if they aren't.
Once it became apparent Petty was utterly shit you seemed to have changed and your posts have become very cynical indeed. Not every post has to be so doom and gloom mate. Shame really.
This was a one pick draft. Anything after Darnold is a bonus. Would I have liked to see us grab an OL in the third or fourth? Yes. But we found some players that by the numbers look like solid value where we got the. And one of them just so happen to fill a need at TE. The whole “we need to pick offense no matter what” shtick is running cold at this point. This team had holes elsewhere and they were addressed. We needed two DL, and we drafted one in the third that some had a second round grade on. Why bitch about that? Skrine, first off, is not good and second he’s entering the final year of a deal. We drafted his potential replacement that also might let us cut him loose before the season even starts. There was too much work to be done to sit here and bitch about taking defensive players. I mean... Pryor, Anderson, Kearse, Enunwa, Crowell, Powell, McGuire, Walford, Leggett... who are we drafting on offense in rounds 3 or later that’s going to crack what we already have? OL is the only spot we truly need to rebuild. We added two in FA, got rid of the worst one, two others will be healthy (both good players), maybe we aren’t the GMs we think we are? And we added two OL from a very high level college program. Trying to grade a draft class before any of them even sign their contracts is just asking for your post to be dug up two years down the road and mocked. I’ll just say I’m thrilled with the way it went because we finally have a guy to build around that has the talent and brain to succeed big time in the NFL.
What can I say... I'm a born and bred Native New Yorker. When it comes to the Jets, I'm from Missouri... "Show me!". Anything else is just noise. I'm happy for the Darnold pick although I wanted Rosen. Now that they have a POTENTIAL FQB, why didn't they go full bore trying to protect this kid? We know what the plan is on defense, but what is the plan to protect and develop Darnold???? 2019? 2020? 2025?
Did we not sign some Ol in free agency and they have taken a couple of udfa after the draft so who knows what else will happen before this season starts. Is there a particular OL player you wanted in the draft and where did he get drafted ? Did we have a sensible chance of him without reaching ? PS the bolded bit, I have no idea what that means or what you want it to mean tbh ?
This was a weak class for OL beyond the first two rounds. Is there a guy we could have taken in the third or fourth? Sure. But do you really think that one guy is the key? Like I said in my previous post, we did do work to the offensive line. Not only did we add two guys to it but we will be getting two guys back and healthy, two of the better players in the line at that. We also added two in UDFA. To me, if you arent drafting the top-tier, can’t miss guys then everyone is a total crapshoot.
Need in FA / value (Jets draft board BPA) in the draft. The approach is sound. Seems like people have an issue with the draft board. I expect to target an OT in Round 1 in 19.
You're a Brit so I guess I shouldn't have expected you to understand..New Yorkers are famous for being a cynical, skeptical, hard core bunch. Comes from being exposed to many "unsavory" things like frauds, phonys, liars, fakers, hustlers, thieves, con artists, etc... Missouri is the "show me" state. They don't take things on face value either.. I need to see results and hard proof one way or the other. Once I get that, I react accordingly. I'll leave the "blind faith" to younger Jet fans. After 50 years, I don't buy into that sort of thing anymore.
For what it’s worth: We were only one of three teams to get an elite grade. The other two were the Cowboys and Packers. This makes perfect sense considering the article that came out not too long ago saying we were going to be relying on analytics more. I personally prefer watching film and making a decision using your eyes and brain but I also work in TV, I’m sure these guys know a bit more about scouting than I do.
If it came down to Rosen and 3 2nd round picks vs Darnold, I would take Rosen, but Darnold is ok, we just have so many holes 3 2nd rounders could have all been starters, but at least we have a QB
I gave it a B. I love the QB, but was disappointed with no OL. Carpenter was declining last year while Winters was hurt. Are the centers one year rentals? Are we satisfied with Long and Swanson? Don't bet the farm on those undrafted free agent OL from Auburn. Dakoda Shepley from BC might be interesting, but has anyone watched him play against real talent? Must admit I too am tired of having a defensive minded head coach. That said, I did like the 7th round trade to get DL Henry Anderson. Rotoworld says he had PFFs No 15 run stopping grade out of 44 at defensive tackle last year. Wonder if he can play OL..... Sam Darnold: A+ Nathan Shepherd: B+ - Heard great comments but older and lower division? Making him an edge rusher? Chris Herndon: C - Hurt but he can block and catch. Raw and limited play. Parry Nickerson: A - When will we cut Skrine ... please Foley Fatukasi: B - Grade gets higher the more I am able to pronounce his cool name. McLendon's replacement? Trenton Cannon: C- - who?
