IMO, we need to abolish the electoral college and elect the president by a direct popular vote. Only about 12 states really matter in presidential elections. We should also allow 3rd parties to participate in presidential debates to show people that there aren't only 2 choices to pick from. Something like top 4 in polling get to participate to ensure that the stage isn't too crowded.

Another option is to eliminate the winner take all votes approach. The way it is set up now, if you live in a heavily red or blue state, your vote really doesn't matter.
Can't they keep the electoral college system for the Senate (or some proportional version of it), and shift to the popular vote for the President? States represented in the Senate, but individuals represented in the President.
