Not overconfident. Retarded is a better description. True - we all have to move away from the coal industry in general. But to say that in front of the mass of coal miners? When their jobs are getting slashed each waking moment already, with bleak outlook ahead? How retarded do you have to be to pull off this magnificent feat? A common man like myself may never fathom the inner workings of these elite morons.
I am torn on that though. I agree it was dumb from a campaign standpoint but in many ways it was just the harsh truth. Her opponent went to the same people and sold them a bag of lies and bullshit. And he continues to do that to these people I worry about a country in which we would rather have a TV entertainer lie, hold our hands and make us feel good than understanding the world we live in and trying to adapt and change accordingly.
It's easy to tell people what they want to hear, in this case tell coal miners that their jobs will come back after he guts a few EPA regulations and ends Obama's "War on Coal." What needs to be done is to tell them that market forces are responsible for coal's decline and that they need to develop skills for jobs of tomorrow such as clean energy and technology.
The reason I call it [retarded] is that, she was not offering any sort of alternatives for the coal mining community. Yes, it is the harsh truth. There is no such thing as a clean coal, like that Orange retard claims. We all must move away from coals - that includes coal plants and whatnot. [And we, as a people have unsubstantiated fear toward nuclear power plants, when it is actually the most environmentally conscious choice at this particular moment. Especially when it comes to carbon footprint, nuclear power plant has no equal. And it doesn't come with either intermittence problem or piss-poor efficiency problem - two major problem that these renewable energy cannot even dream of closing the gap of.] But if you are going to say [we are killing your job] you must also say [but we are going to make sure you are not left behind however]. I tend to think that, US in general need massive investment in public sector in the form of infrastructures. That means roads, bridges, and new information network structures. [If you look at how pitiful US internet speed performs compared to other developed countries, you will see what I mean.] These thing will take quite a while to complete, so we can use the coal mining community to phase them out of the coal industry in general without much aftershock. [That was my thought.] Well. NONE of these was even thought of, I am afraid. Truly a work of a fucking retard.
Clean energy is also a way for many coal miners to move forward. Obviously it won't be a one to one replacement.
I am not too optimistic about that. Advancement of technologies offers new kinds of industries and jobs, but that doesn't mean the old workforce would be effective in the new field - quite the contrary. Don't just take my words for it. Since the advent of the industrial revolution, the horse population dropped by 95+%. They were not needed any more, and we phased them out. Horses now have specialty function in human society, if that much. And this situation is pretty comparable to the middle age coal miners. You can't make a programmer out of them or a workforce in the new technology-driven work field for that reason. Yeah, some might be willing to go through the training and even become very good at the new field. To expect that from the general miner community is an entirely different thing - which why I thought they had to do something somewhat similar to what they were doing in the past.
there's that good old fashioned misogyny coming out! why deny it? just embrace your douchebaggery without the need for guise. It will be liberating.
fuck that change with the times. We have to hold their hands for them? The government's job is not to make sure every middle aged guy too lazy to learn new technology has a job. The government is the invisible hand to push the economy forward. People need to have some personal responsibility.
Say that to Trump supporters. Especially those coal miners. Hell, this populace even has the nerve to deny climate change. [We are the only industrialized country to pull out of Paris summit. Guess who did that, and guess who supported that moron. You've got a pretty clear picture here. Just for your info, when it comes to science, you don't have that option to selectively deny what's inconvenient then cherry-pick those that you like. The inner workings of science are universal, and they remain true whether you agree with them or not. Well - that doesn't seem to make sense for the hillybilly Jesusfreaks but then they are jesusfreaks for a reason.] P.S. Yeah. I find it pretty funny too. They don't want government intervention anywhere if that has a slightest scent of "regulation" but if it means their inconvenience - be it financial or, heaven forbid, religious - they want the governmental boot squarely on the neck of those they don't agree with. Talk about inconsistencies.
This issue is going to blow up in a bigger way for the next generation. Automation and AI are going to take away about 80% of the jobs that people currently hold. Not blue collar jobs, because most of those are gone already, this will be white collar jobs in the Legal, Financial, Medical, and virtually any other knowledge based profession you can think of. The jobless society is very close at hand and you can only have so many people serving at fast food restaurants and coffee shops. There are only so many plumber, electrician, emergency worker positions available. The Minimum Income thing is going to become real in a hurry when most people cannot provide for themselves in any meaningful way because corporations can make so much more money by replacing them.
This CNN article was posted today. It goes further into the point I was trying to make yesterday before some troll tried to derail it. https://www.cnn.com/2018/03/27/politics/donald-trump-vladimir-putin-stormy-daniels/index.html TLDR; Trump tweets and criticizes everyone except Putin and Stormy. Stormy saw Trump's orange genitalia. Jeez I wonder what could be the reason behind the Putin silence?
The one good argument against the Kompromat theory is that Trump may be fawning over Putin to increase his ability to do business in Russia, specifically to brand ventures in Russia the way he has in the USA. This of course would also be violating his oath of office but not in quite the same way.
Agreed, but he has already done business with Russia. He won't release his tax returns, which would show the business he had with them. He is scared of what the public would see in them, which is why he won't release them. You're saying he might be taking a favorable position on Russia to get $$$ returns in the future when he is out of office. That sounds like it's unlawful to me.
