Third pick or not I love how everyone assumes he will not play a down for the Jets. I believe that much to the contrary he will start for us at some point and will be a very present surprise.
People act as if it's a forgone conclusion that Bridgwater is a better QB then McCown... he has 28 TD passes in 28 games in my opinion he'a a limited player much like Taylor or Bortles.
He's STILL insurance. The rookie they draft could bust or take a couple of years to develop. He also could help the Jets recoup some of their picks used to get the rookie. He could also be so good that the Jets wind up trading the rookie.
If he's healthy, once he shakes off the rust and learns the Jets' system, he will be better than McCown. I'm not a gambling man at all, but I'd bet the ranch on it.
Marginally..I mean I would rather give him a chance because he's younger but I don't see him being a top 15-20 type QB..I could be wrong but what I've seen from him he's very limited and I'm glad he's not really gonna be a serious part of the future.
True, but they're still on the roster along with a guy named Joel Stave... So, assuming the Jets draft a Qb we're looking at: McCown Bridgewater Hackenberg Petty Stave Qb X That's a lot of Qb's.. Also a lot of deadweight too.. Not sure what Macc's plans are for Hack but I just don't see 4 Qb's on the roster.
I guess.. Both should have been long gone by now. At least give these kids a chance to latch on someplace else if someone wants to take a flyer on either of them. Once Bridge was signed and the trade made, that's two chairs removed from the game and guess who's not gonna have a seat when the music stops???
They will attempt to trade them or at least one of them (petty) but good luck with that..do they have 8th round picks?
Especially if they end up taking Josh Allen, who almost certainly wouldn't be ready to start Week 1. And Josh McCown has always been an injury risk. If Teddy is indeed healthy, looks like he's returning to form and they want to cut a QB, it should be McCown (if the specifics of his contract allow it)
McCown got a $5M signing bonus and $5M guaranteed salary. If they cut him before June 1, the dead money would be $10M. I don't think there is anyway he is cut. None whatsoever.
