My conclusion is that our selection at number 3 overall is going to tell us if Macc is full of hot air or is guided by firm principles that go in to building a solid roster. His claim is, "the draft is used for increasing the overall talent on the roster and not by reaching for positions of need". This is how the perennial winners view things, but most importantly DO things. At the top of draft there are only really 2-3 quarterbacks that have any business being taken int he top 5. This is based on major items....winning, accuracy, adequate arm strength and athleticism. In that group, I think most of us would say (Darnold, Rosen and maybe Baker). Josh Allen has no business being in this discussion, take away his arm strength and he would be a second or third rounder. His stats don't garner an elite draft grade, especially coming against competition he should be dominating. His accuracy is a noted issue as well. For this reason, if for whatever reason Darnold and Rosen are gone, which in all probability they will be.....the only sensible choices would be Saquon Barkley or possibly Baker Mayfield. If Allen is taken, this would tell me that we have an emotionally driven GM, one that follow his emotions rather than the solid facts and numbers he claims he regards. I was against trading up all together, but now that we already took that road, there's no looking back. Saquon would transform the offense and would love to be a Jet....there's value there and I believe would be worth taking.
It's simple. If Rosen and Darnold are gone you take Barkley. We have to get one of the three. Anybody else would be a reach.
The giants are not taking a qb in the first round. They could trade out. However to me Rosen or Mayfield. Im not all in om Darnold just yet Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I edited my post. Accidently sent before finishing. Yes that could be a possibility. But im in on mayfield or rosen over darnold. One of the two will be available. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
IMHO you don't give up three extra second rounders to move up three spots to take a RB that will give you 7-8 seasons of top notch play. If the Jets select Barkley I would be pissed. I would hope that they then could go and trade him to the Browns for their #4 pick and a second rounder. I don't know how feasible that would be though.
Barkley lol . Mac did not trade 3 2nd rounders for a rb. And if he did, it would be his last draft as a GM in the NFL .
That doesnt seem like its going to happen. Especially after last season and how sensitive eli is. Ownership is bending over backwards for him. They wont take a qb Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
I've been saying for months its going to be: Browns- Darnold Giants- Rosen Jets- Mayfield I hope I'm wrong, and either Darnold or Rosen fall to the Jets. Having said that, I am perfectly content with Mayfield if thats the case. But you dont give up this kind of draft capital for a running back IMO.
QBs are the exception to that rule..he traded up to take a QB, he will take a QB, get use to the idea...oh, and not one of the 4 qbs at the top is a reach.
It is a shame, it isn't often a probable top class game changing back would walk over hot coals to be selected by the team he supports and that team being the Jets,if he was in next years draft that would have been ideal
If he was in next year's draft he might go #1 and hell we might win 8 games this year and pick 19th, then what?
Same is true of an edge rusher but he might get away with taking nelson and having him play lt which they say he can do..still it would be hard to keep the press at bay.
If you are hoping we take a RB and pass on a highly rated QB, then you have not suffered as a Jets fan long enough...
If stats were the only thing that determined whether a college QB is worth a top 5 pick the likes of Case Keenum, Timmy Chang and Colt Brennan would’ve been top 5 picks. Josh Allen is a legit top 5 QB and saying that without his arm strength he’d be a 2nd or 3rd rounder is not only wrong but it’s pretty damn ignorant. Jets are taking a QB, I think it will be Rosen but I’m 100% certain it will be one of Darnold, Rosen, Allen, Mayfield. You can want any other position or player but you’re only setting yourself up to be disappointed if you do.
Your entire premise falls apart if Mac believes Allen is a top 3 QB. Whether you believe it or not is a separate discussion and certainly doesn’t reflect any contradiction or hypocrisy of his statements.
I could also see this going Browns- Darnold Giants- Barkley Jets- Rosen And really either option looks amazing to me. I actually am starting to believe in Macs plan and we should be opening our window as contenders at exactly the time the evil empire is retiring.
He might and we might, it wasnt really meant to be taken so literally tbh. Still he might go number three this year yet lol
