I don't see how people are upset with this, as I also don't see how this prevents them from drafting a QB also (you really want a rookie QB thrown into the fire on THIS team?) At the moment, they have a 39yr old never-was journeyman as starting QB ('cause dude's pushing 40 ALWAYS get better at contact sports) and a bust of a draft pick that probably should be released barring some miraculous offseason turn-around. This move is nothing but insurance with possible upside..... maybe the kid spent the offseason over seas loading up his knee with stemcells and continues his upward progression and they have a viable QB. If not Mac just wasted 5m of Woody's money and they let him go. All the while they hopefully have a highly drafted QB waiting in the wings while they improve the rest of the team
I'm not a Bridgewater fan and I still don't understand/like this signing, but for 1 year AND as long as we still go QB in Round 1, I'm okay with it. He likely will never see the field here.
I see a problem. McCown and Bridgewater will go into the season as No. 1 and No. 2. If the Jets draft a QB, he'll be No. 3. Given the practice restrictions in the CBA, where is this rookie QB going to get the practice reps he'll need to develop? Bowles has proven to be very rigid. He doesn't seem like the kind of coach who will give the No. 3 practice reps at the expense of No. 1 or No. 2. I doubt that he'd put the No. 3 into a game before the No. 2. Of course, the signing of Bridgewater could also mean that Maccagnan doesn't like any of the QBs enough to move up in the draft or use a No. 6 pick on. In that case, it's the same old same old unless they catch lightning in a bottle with Bridgewater.
^ I wouldn't worry about training camp reps. The days I was there Petty and Hackenberg got 80% of the reps over McCown. When they announced McCown the starter, I was surprised based on how few reps he got. If there's a rookie QB, they will get him reps.
I don’t like any of the QBs enough to move up and sell the farm either But if someone falls to us at 6 you gotta atleast take a look at some of them Also, does anyone know if we’ll be able to see Bridgewater live at practice before the draft? If he looks awesome and mobile then maybe that will decide whether or not we want to go QB in day the 2nd round or 1st
LOL at people who want a spread QB (never works) like Mayfield over a STUD like Rosen. Rosen could start from day 1. His only risk is concussions. Other then that, he is the best QB by far in the draft. Better then Darnold, Allen and Mayfield.
Pretty sure in today’s NFL that’s a massive risk One more huge hit to the head and he might be gone for good...his family has big money too so he can fall back on that I want zero part of Rosen
Both. I also saw Hack running with the 1s in scrimmage too. So when the FO and CS said they gave Hack a chance, I believe they did.
As long as Bridgewater doesn't channel his inner Mike Vick (Jets version), this might not be so bad. Its only for a year anyway.. #moneygrab
Still dont totally understand the logic of making this a one year deal if McCown is the starter. Part of me expects Teddy to end up being the starter, with McCown and a first rounder backing him up.
Drew Brees, Jared Goff, Dak Prescott, Derek Carr, Marcus Mariota, Andy Dalton, Deshaun Watson, Cam Newton, and Alex Smith beg to differ.
