Love him as a guy but not crazy for him as a player. He was soooooooo slow off the line and barely got any separation.

Hearing the Jets are going after Avery Williamson ilb to replace Davis. 26. Down to Titans and Jets. Refused 4 year 12 million from Dolphins.

Hearing the Jets are in on Burton with the potential loss of ASJ

Hearing the Jets have contacted Richberg's representatives.

Fun time. Hopefully Allen Robinson is added to the list. Looking forward to seeing who is with us come Wednesday.

4yr/12M for a good starting ILB isn't much at all. Wonder what Demario Davis is looking for. I'd like to have him back, but not at any cost.

Glad they're going in on Burton and Richburg

    What's the source?

I'd be very cool with Burton over ASJ.

They have plenty of money. Yes, they don't want to waste it needlessly, but they shouldn't be cheap, either. If what some other posters posted about $7 million being the NFL low or average for TEs, ASJ is worth that. We can't afford to create more holes. Mac needs to re-sign our FAs so he can focus on outside FAs. I'm starting to get a very bad feeling in my gut that we are going to miss out on getting any OL help in FA aside from Richburg, who has concussion issues, and very little else, and wind up losing some of the players we wanted to keep. Instead of getting better, we may be getting worse.

If he's not willing to budge from $7 million to stay in NY and is willing to go elsewhere for less, I say let him walk. Especially after the Jets took a chance on him and stood by him, helping him get his life on track.

Exactly! That's why if the Jets fail to sign Cousins, then Mac has to swing a trade up deal in the draft. He can't afford to just hope that a QB they like drops to #6.

Is he really worth 7 mil annually though? I mean he had a decent season, but Trey Burton could give us similar production. I it's not that I don't wan't him back but having money doesn't mean you should just throw out being smart with it. Being cheap shouldn't be confused with being smart. He's going to test the market and the jets may match it or go above, but that's what FA is all about.

As for O-line, the jets are going to sign an o-lineman. Let's see how it plays out, we can't assume an hour and 23 min after legal tampering period started that Macc is going to screw us.

It sucks though because the jets are not in a position where they can trade multiple high picks to move up and get a bust at QB. That's not to say it'll happen, but there's always a chance.

So what if he signs in Minnesota. If Mac drives up the price in the process that will ultimately weaken the roster of an AFC competeter. The Vikings have 4 key players due big deals next season and driving up Cousins salary makes signing all 4 very unlikely. Cousins is not the only answer at the QB position. He's just one of several options.

He obviously wants more than that or he wouldn't now still be a FA.

To begin with, you don't know that Burton could give similar production. That's all projection. You also don't know if he would even consider signing with the Jets. As several posters have stated, why should Burton or any other quality TE want to sign here if the QB is McCown?

If the average league salary for average/mediocre TEs is $7 million, then yes, ASJ is worth it. Also, one has to consider the routes that ASJ ran in Morton's offense. They could be very different in Bates' system or on another team and ASJ could put up much bigger numbers. Even if he isn't quite worth it, he's worth it in terms of not creating another hole and having yet another FA the Jets need/want to sign.

I don't think that creating another hole is being "smart." I think the smart thing is getting your own FAs that you want to keep locked up before FA so you can focus on outside FAs. If there's still interest in both parties on getting a deal done and they are close, then Mac should get it done.

Signing ASJ for $6-$7 million doesn't mean that Mac is throwing out "being smart," especially if that's what other TEs are getting.

The thing is, I see no reason why Mac couldn't create a contract with reached incentives that would increase the value of the contract to $6 or $7 million a year. There could be some tiers to it. If he reaches a certain level of production, he gets $6 million. If he reaches the next tier, he gets $7 million. It would be a win-win. If ASJ puts up that kind of production, it would definitely help the Jets. ASJ should be willing to bet on himself.

Of course it could happen, but one shouldn't operate out of "fear." It would definitely hurt more if they traded up, but the Jets (Johnsons) put themselves in this hole insisting that Rex be kept on, hiring Idzik who had little experience in scouting and personnel, hiring yet another former DC as HC, etc.

If I'm the one trading with the Jets, I'd have to believe the 2019 1st rounder I'm getting will be high as well.

I think it will be something like:
    2018: 1st, 2nd, 2nd
    2019: 1st, 4th

Not sure what the point value is there.

Who's to say McCown is going to be the QB? Isn't that projection too?

ASJ is talented, no doubt, but too often it seemed he faded. I'm not sure if its him, the way he was used, or both. Also, i'm not advocating for the jets to not give him more, I'm advocating for the jets to feel it out, let him go to other teams and see what they value him as. If the jets feel they want to match it then go ahead, but signing him right now to a 2 year 14-6 mil contract would be premature. He's not a star TE in this league.

Being scared of creating another hole in your roster leads you to overpaying IMO. I understand why you want him back, but the Jets need to be patient and not be trigger happy. Let me test the market first and then decide. No need to bid against ourselves

Unless there are multiple teams trying to trade up to the same spot, I don't think the cost would be that high. I could be wrong, but I think that's way too steep, to move up 2-3 spots. I think it would be more like the following.

2018: 1st, one of the 2nd round picks, 3rd round
    2019: 1st
