I can already see it! We are in overtime vs New England and some dude named Benson Mayoma gets called for a late hit to the QB, since he can't get home any earlier, and the penalty puts them in position for the game winning field goal. Yes sir, Benson Mayoma, perfect Jet signing....BOOM
Isn't that tampering? I know teams can "negotiate" with agents today and tomorrow but any contact with players is forbidden.
He could be in Seattle to get fresh fish from the market.....but ya know....today will be read between the lines day with all the travel arrangements.
LOL what a joke.Too cheap to pay the the only thing close to a legit TE since Keller. Right back to having garbage at TE.None of the other FA TEs will come here w.o a QB. How long before they start feeding us the line that they don’t value the TE position again? You can bet if it was a safety or Mike LB he’d be resigned no questions asked
It's a low bar though. If ASJ signs for a ridiculous deal, I'll understand IF they bring in Trey Burton, for example. But if they go into the season with Tomlinson, Leggett and a scrub free agent, I'd be pissed.
This is good. For as nice as the comeback story was for ASJ, the product on the field isn't worth a huge contract. If the Jets budged to 10 mil for 2 years, it wouldn't be bad, but you don't want to overpay for a player who is a DUI away from a lengthy suspension IMO. Let's see what happens because ultimately the jets can outbid everyone, but have to be smart on how and with who they want to spend that money on.
Yes of course if they upgrade TE w Burton or the like it’s a no brainer.I just see zero way a TE is signing here unless a QB is in house. It just makes no sense to me to create another hole at a spot the team has zero luck at over acouple Ms when we have the most cap space in the NFL.
Honestly think Jenkins wanted to go to Seattle. It's his home town and I remember him active recruiting Marquis Lee to go to Seattle in the beginning of the off season. He was the first legit TE in a while but we don't know what the FO has seen from Leggette and he didn't play up to his demands.
Depends on the prior dialogue that’s already transpired. Its been reported the jets “haven’t budged” on 8M.Has that been their only offer? What is ASJ seeking? The fact that “mutual interest” is still lingering to get a deal done leads me to believe they aren’t that far apart. If that’s indeed the case why risk ASJ walking away & leaving us back to square one at TE when we have $ to burn? What TE even as good as ASJ is gonna sign here w.o a QB? Is 2-4 Ms more a year for ASJ WORTH not going back to Chan Gailey era TE play? I sure think so
The plan is for Cousins to sign with Minny all along. His agent knows the Jets have a lot of cap room and are stupid enough to think they have a shot. He tells the Vikings (&the media) the Jets are willing to offer outrageous numbers, even specific numbers, so that the Vikings will offer more for his client. The Jets end up holding their dicks while he plays them and gets a nice offer from the Vikings.
I get that, but the Vikings have a stopping point, likely because they will have to address re-signing some players next season. The jets do not have any stopping point. It may be that Cousins is using the jets as leverage but for him to narrow it down to the vikings and jets means he's not even going to listen to the broncos, cardinals, etc. There has to be a level of interest that surpasses just leverage IMO
Those other teams don’t have the $ to get into a bidding war which is always an agents goal first & foremost. The jets could easily be getting played right now
Fair point. I know the Vikings and Jets are really the only two teams being considered that can actually fit a deal of 30 mil annually. Should be interesting how it shakes out. After the Bills traded Tyrod, you know they'll be trying like hell to move up. Jets cannot be complacent in finding their future FQB
The Jets will regret not increasing their offer to ASJ. Guaranteed Seakhawks or Falcons give him a more fair offer than 4m. He will get 5.5 to 6, and the Jets have plenty of money, so I feel letting him go is a mistake.
