All I'm saying is that maybe they have a similar grade on a few of these QBs and they don't feel like paying through the nose to move up 2 damn spots when a QB of a similar value/grade, or hell even the QB they want the most, might fall to them at 6 anyway....All of these QBs are intriguing but I don't think any of them are far and away above the others. This year is so much different than most draft classes where there are usually only 1 or 2 QBs at the very top.....this season I have seen Allen, Mayfield, Darnold, and Rosen all number 1 on someone's board or mock multiple times. Also, some people really like Lamar Jackson even though you don't and it wouldn't be crazy to see him go top 10 You add in Barkley who will definitely be gone before us, and it doesn't seem wise to give away a bunch of picks for no good reason If I'm Mac I'm signing Bridgewater or McCarron (the only 2 young QBs available with some potential) and I'm staying pat at 6 and letting the chips fall to me...I'm not the poor sucker giving away the farm when a similar QB can be had at 6
Welcome to the board. Not counting Wilkerson, Ijalana, or Forté, the Jets have 29 FAs. They cannot just re-sign three of them and add 5 FAs, while cutting 6 more players. Sorry, but that's just totally unrealistic. There's no way they could replace all those players. In terms of your re-signings, I agree with Davis (if he's willing to agree to a reasonable contract, but I read somewhere that he's asking for a lot more than $5 million per season), Jenkins and Claiborne. I also think that the following players need to be re-signed. Enunwa, Ealy, Pennel, Catanzaro, Brooks, Bass, Miles, Thomas, Middleton, Tomlinson, Dozier, Stanford, and probably either Cooper or Stinson. In terms of your additions/FA signings, I like Robinson & Bridgewater, but not Lewis or T. Johnson, and would accept Butler, but would prefer several other CBs. This a great draft for RBs, the Jets can get a much better RB than Dion Lewis in the draft. T. Johnson is too old imo. I'd rather have Kyle Fuller, Ross Cockrell, Nickell Robey-Coleman, Bashaud Breeland, E.J. Gaines, or Travis Carrie all 26. In addition, the OL needs to see a major upgrade, and the best place to do it is in FA before the draft. There are a slew of Cs and OGs, and even a few RTs who are all in the 25-27 age range that the Jets can potentially choose between. It's rumored that the Jets will sign Weston Richburg to play C, but I'd rather they sign Ryan Jensen of the Ravens. At OG, Andrew Norwell could wind up a FA, as could Chris Hubbard, Xavier Su'a-Filo and others who are 26-27. At RT, LaAdrian Waddle, James Hurst, Michael Schofield, Seantrel Henderson, and Cornelius Lucas could wind up FAs, and they're all in the 26-27 range. Any of them could be better than Shell and Qvale. In terms of your cuts, I see no way that the Jets will cut bait with Hack this season. I agree with Petty, Carpenter and Skrine. I definitely disagree on Powell. He's been a very good player for the Jets, still has his speed and ability, and has been a great Jet. They gain nothing by cutting him. In terms of Anderson, I think they should wait and see what the NFL does, then they should get in his face, and tell him that he has one more chance, but if he wants to stay, he has to do counseling, agree to have a behavior clause written into his contract, and if he screws up, he's gone.
If the Jets see 4 QBs as equal and don't care which one of the 4 they get, then they should stay put at #6. If that is the case, however, I want Mac fired now. IMO Jackson and Allen can't carry the other 3's jock straps. As I pointed out in my previous post, Mayfield, Rosen and Darnold are good fits for the Jets' offense, but all 3 could easily be gone before the Jets pick. I think Mayfield is the best QB prospect in this draft. He's who I think the Jets should draft. If Mac gets some information that Mayfield will drop to #6, then he could stay put, but he'd better not be wrong. I agree that the Jets shouldn't give away picks for no good reason, but they should have a good reason for moving up, i.e., to get the best QB they can. I don't think it's equal at all.
Well I guess I just disagree with you....and when we look back in a few years I would bet that Allen, Jackson, or both have better careers than atleast one of those 3. I'm not even saying they're better prospects but I literally have no idea who's gunna bust and I could see any of the 5 being good pros. I have my order of preference, but I don't see any of them as sure fire elite Also, what if the teams above them are trying to absolutely job the Jets into trading up? There's always a point where it just becomes not worth it. They're all just a prospect in the end, no sure thing. It's a complicated issue honestly....so many variables
That's cool. No one said that we had to agree, but we do partially agree. You could be right about Jackson and/or Allen or both having better careers than 1 of the 3 (imo Darnold or Rosen), but I wouldn't bet a lot of money on it. Other teams will undoubtedly trying to trick other teams into passing on players that they covet and/or will try to seduce teams into trading up to get a player so they can get more draft picks. That's part of the game and why GMs get the big bucks. Mac had just better play it smart and right, or he should be shown the door.
Yeah for sure...I don't even mind a trade up if we aren't giving away much but I just don't see that happening. When it comes to the very top of the draft, teams are usually giving away the farm to barely move up and that's just not my style I could understand if there was an Andrew Luck and no one else but this class specifically I don't see anyone worth trading up for if we're going by what it should cost
What's more important...having a few extra picks or having at a minimum a solid starting FQB for the next 10-15 years (top 15, maybe top 10 QB), who could possibly even become an elite QB? It's been so long since the Jets have had a franchise QB that they could count on year in and year out, I'd do almost anything at this point to secure one.
If you can guarantee me one of these guys WILL BE a franchise QB I'll trade up and give a few extra picks Since we have no idea, I'll take my chances on one of the QBs available when we pick and use the other picks to strengthen the team It would suck to draft a bust QB in the 1st round but it would be franchise crippling if we give up a future 1st rounder and more and also draft a bust Like I said before I don't see any of these QBs as sure fire franchise QBs...all have atleast one serious flaw if not more
Many will say his height. Listen, I've seen him play and he's looked great all year. The stats back it up, and advance metrics show he's the best QB of the bunch in certain situations, he's IMO the best QB prospect. We will see if the Jets feel the same.
I like Mayfield the best of all the QBs and fine he doesn't have one serious flaw, but he's definitley not an elite Andrew Luck type prospect I don't mind the attitude issues either but he's definitley got some maturing to do, he's not ideal height, there's concerns about him reading NFL defenses, he will be converting from a spread college-esque offense against the non existent defenses of the big 12
He's my favorite too, and if we traded up for him I'd be OK with it as long as it wasn't a huge haul Anyone else and I'd be totally against it
I'm on the Mayfield band wagon as well. Would prefer to land Cousins and use that pick on Nelson or Chubb but if we draft our QB you can put me in the Mayfield camp.
Yes, he needs to mature more, and like all the QBs in this draft, it will be determined how adept they are at reading NFL defenses. I don't think he will have any real problems adopting to an NFL offense. He's smart, a hard worker, driven to succeed and prove others wrong, and has a very high football IQ.
The problem with some of these measurables (height, speed, arm strength, accuracy) is that none of them take into account what its like to learn the complexities of an NFL offense and reading NFL defenses. One of those things that almost every organization ends up guessing on as far as if a player can be proficient. It’s why the interviews are way more important than the stupid drills at the combine. Chad Pennington’s measurables were probably worse than every QB the Jets ever selected....yet he is the best QB they have drafted since you-know-who Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Brees and Wilson are very high character guys who overcame their lack of height by putting in a lot of work. Is Mayfield going to put in that much work? His character concerns may be overblown, but to match up with Brees and Wilson he needs to be special.
