The more reasonable question is why would a QB with 12 straight 4K seasons sign only a two year contract?

You can't get young free agents on reasonable deals. The 25 and 26 year olds are all looking for their one big deal. If a young guy hits the market more teams are likely to bid and their price goes up from that inflation as well.

Maybe you get lucky and a James Carpenter floats free but then you have to pay him like a top 5 player on your team and he's not that good. See Calvin Pace also in this regard.

The Saints made out like bandits on the Drew Brees signing not because they got Drew Brees but because they got Drew Brees at $10M a year when the market was at $15M. Even better than that, they got him on a backloaded deal. Brees cap number was $6M in 2006 and $7M in 2007 and $9M in 2008. That let the Saints accumulate talent around him and build the window that turned into a Super Bowl win in 2009. In 2009 Brees finally broken the $10M a year cap figure at $10.66M.

Kirk not going to visit teams is interesting.

I think he wants teams to come to him which is even more interesting.

You're one of the few who are so concerned about reasonable deals. Personally, I don't give a hoot. The Jets have $90 million or more (if they cut both Carpenter and Skrine). They can afford to overpay for a few young excellent FAs who would fill big holes in the Jets' lineup. They aren't gonna break the bank. There are also a lot of young 2nd or 3rd tier players who may be available who could possibly help the Jets in terms of depth, so the Jets could sign 3 top tier players and several 2nd or 3rd tier players and dramatically improve the overall talent and depth of the team.

The Jets signed Calvin Pace and traded for Thomas Jones in 2007.
They signed Alan Faneca and Damien Woody and traded for Kris Jenkins and Brett Favre in 2008.
They signed Bart Scott and Jim Leonhard and traded for Braylon Edwards and Lito Sheppard in 2009.
They signed LaDainian Tomlinson and Brodney Pool and traded for Antonio Cromartie and Santonio Homes in 2010
    In 2011 the collapse began.

This is not how you build a team to contend in the NFL.

You build a team by drafting well over a couple of seasons and then filling a hole or two if you need too in free agency.
You build a team by having a solid enough core of homegrown players that it's easy to identify who will fit well into the locker room and mesh with the team on the field.
You build a team by taking care of the basics first, building the offensive and defensive lines, and the middle of the field and then adding the players they will enable.
You don't put a young QB, or any QB for that matter, out there with a line that cannot hold it's own game to game.
You don't draft a good young RB and then wait to find the other pieces to go with him. RB's have limited tread on their tires and burning a couple of seasons off of it in a losing cause is a bad move.
You don't wait until you have all the pieces to draft a #1 WR because those guys often struggle for a year or two before coming into their own.
TE's on the other hand often step right out of college and become stars fairly quickly.
WR is one of the highest variance positions in terms of AV early vs late.
TE has maybe the lowest variance in the NFL. Good early, good mid and then they tend to retire early. TE is the guy you want to draft when you have the other pieces ready to go.

Anybody the Jets signed at a number of positions would dramatically improve the talent and depth of the team.

From 4-12/5-11 caliber to 8-8/9-7 caliber.

If you could buy a contender then the Super Bowl would be contested between the Redskins and the Cowboys every year.

But say a draft is loaded with RB's like this year's is and your team doesn't have a game changer. Wouldn't it make sense to select one of the talented RB's? I've advocated for going OL and RB in the 2nd round.

You're ridiculous! The Jets have $90 million that they have to spend in the next couple of years. They aren't possibly going to be able to spend it on their own players or draft picks in that time. They HAVE to use the money. They haven't drafted well.

All of the things you list aren't true.

The Jets aren't an ideal situation and aren't gonna be any time soon, so all the stuff you say doesn't really matter. If Mac doesn't use the money to improve the team then he should be fired

You're just being obtuse. The Jets aren't trying to buy a contender unless they sign Cousins and then go all in. They have money that they need to spend, haven't drafted well, and have money that they have to spend. Face the reality!

Of course it would! Br4d is just being obtuse, anal, and unrealistic. You get good players when you get the opportunity. You don't put them off until some point in the future.

You my friend should spend more time looking at game video and do research, then just throwing out BS
analysis on Any Topic, I believe Keenum was a college spread QB that was put in a good system with
a quality team and showed exceptional progression. He was a league leader in so many categories. Does
this make him a HOFer?? I doubt it, but if we lose out on Cousins sweepstakes (which is likely), he would be
a great option. As you are aware the 50 million number means Nothing!! it is the guaranteed$$$ If he turns out to be a
one year wonder, we can cut him.... If we draft Allen or Baker at #6, it would benefit them to sit and learn from someone
who has gone through the process. No need to pay a 39 yr old McCown 7-8mill to coach the draft pick...

You are the one who needs to do some research, not just think he's awesome off of one good year in his entire career!

Where do you see the word awesome?? If Cousins goes elsewhere, we need a Plan B.
You are not someone to argue with, because you don't base your opinions on reality, just BS
    thoughts....you don't know football...it is obvious....

LOL Whatever. You're all in on his coming here, and he's had one good year in his career. You can't take it if someone disagrees with you so you have to make it personal and attack. Have a nice life, I'm done with you! Life's too short to deal with asshats like you!

Would New Orleans move on from Drew Brees?? That's a hurdle right there... But if it happens I agree with a combo of him and Mayfield..Back when we signed B Favre I don't think we had a talented back up to step in

Cousins is more Neil O'Donnell deal which I am against ...plus Brees is head and shoulders over Cousins in ability/rankings

Who knows if it happens but why not ? Lol

How long is waiting too long for kirk cousins to make his decision?

The bills and dolphins are trying to trade up probably for Mayfield, if that's the guy the jets want in the draft... when do we try to strike a trade with Cleveland NYG or INDY to assure ourselves that we get who we want and not have to settle for what's left of the QB's in the draft. The Bills have the better chance to strike a deal to move up to as far as #1
