They have depth at wr, and he's coming off a season ending knee injury. I wouldn't be shocked if they let him walk.
Per SNY's Ralph Vacchiano, the Jets' "Plan B" if they fail to sign free agent Kirk Cousins would be to pair Teddy Bridgewater with Josh McCown. Cousins is still 'Plan A' for the Jets. If "their fears are realized" and Cousins signs with the Vikings, the next plan would be signing Bridgewater, who is still just 25, and bringing back 38-year-old McCown to mentor him. 'Plan C' would be pairing McCown with whoever they take sixth-overall in the draft. Bridgewater has also been linked to "a handful" of other teams eyeing him as a potential starter. http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/9274/teddy-bridgewater Hmmm... And not draft a QB whatsoever?
I dunno when Ralph Vacchiano started getting the inside track on the Jets QB situation... I'm gonna remain skeptical of most reports untli the guy signs the dotted line. Also, Bridgewater would be a disaster unless we draft a QB at 6 to go with him when he inevitably fizzles out 9 games in.
if the jets go into next season with mccown, bridgewater, and hackenberg...... someone is going to be tarred and feathered.
Exactly! If Mac's plan B is to sign Bridgewater, re-sign McCown, and NOT draft a QB in the 1st round, then Mac should be fired now, and not allowed to handle FA or the draft.
A lot of differing opinions regarding this QB disaster. But I think we can all agree that this would be absolute horse shit & an insult to long time fans. Would this regime even survive the draft?
I'm gonna be sharpening up the tines on my pitchfork, laying in a supply of feathers and tar just in case!
So with a rookie coordinator, no line, no running game, and a we(,ak WR corp, you are ready to hand the keys to the offensive car, to the #6 pick in this year's draft? Having Vets, aka McCown and whoever else we hire, is a hell of a lot smarter than drafting a rookie for this rebuild continuation. Let me guess... Darnold is your #1, Mayfield #2? The taring, feathering, and pitch forks should be saved for GM's with that silly way of rebuilding. Maybe Bates can put him thru drills and raise his overall player score from a 65 to a 95 in a short offseason. I guess we will see. Lol
Even more reason to hope Jets sign Cousins, that’s the easy decision that even Mac can’t F up. If he chooses elsewhere I guess we gotta hope Teddy B helps us out and chooses another destination and then Mac gets lucky selecting the right QB.
So you mean to tell me they prefer Teddy Bridgewater to the top QBs in this draft, but they drafted Christian Hackenburg in the 2nd round? What does Mac look for in QBs?? They can sign Bridgewater; I have a lot of intrigue with him save for the knee, but banking on him and passing on a top rookie seems insane. Maybe MAYBE they can sign Bridgewater, resign McCown, and draft Luke Falk in the 2nd
Its not the worst plan if they use the Cousins saving to add 3 or 4 other starters in free agency (Butler, Norwell, Robinson, a Center etc...) to help him. Then use the 6th pick for either Nelson or Barkley and then the first second rounder on an RB or OL depending on the first pick. My first choice is Cousins, but this plan would be ok.
I don't know why you guys are so down on Bridgewater as a backup plan if we don't get cousins. Guy will be cheap as he is coming off a major injury and he can ball in the right system. Would be all for it. Want Mayfield over everyone though.
Oh, and if Allen Robinson doesn't get tagged, we got our Number #1 receiver. Robinson, Enunwa, Kearse and Anderson. Sign me up.
1 year deal just like the Eagles gave Alshon. Guy is a monster when healthy. No doubt he could be a 1400 yard and 12 TD guy for us.
The reason so many are down on the idea is that the kid hasn't thrown a pass in two years. What's more surprising is everyone getting their panties knotted up over this report. The smoke screens start right after the Super Bowl. Don't take it for gospel.
You semi-answered your own question. He's coming off a MAJOR injury. When was the last time a QB missed that much time and came back to be a legit starter? Peyton Manning, who was one of the best of all-time prior to the injury? Bridgewater was painfully average when healthy... I have no faith that he'll return from this much time off and basically reconstructive surgery to be BETTER than an average-at-best game manager. I dunno if Robinson will take a 1-year prove it deal. He's coming off a big injury... he wants to secure as much money as possible guaranteed over as many years as possible. Alshon took a prove it deal because he knew he could prove it physically. It's different when you're coming off a torn ACL.
