The AR-15 is NOT an assault rifle. Assault rifles are selective fire firearms, which the AR-15 is not. It's not a weapon of war either, as you won't find any real military armed with them. Even the cops are armed with the M4 (selective fire) these days.

This whole AR-15 Is/isn't an assault rifle is semantics. How about the people who want more gun control just say "we want assault rifles and the AR-15 banned."
Cool so now I'll sell the BR-16 rifle. If you want to regulate the gun differently because of some specific capability it has then have that conversation. I will likely disagree but at least it's a real conversation based on technical details. "WE NEED GUN CONTROL" is usually just an emotional response to a tragedy without any teeth.
Assault rifles (selective fire rifles, aka submachine guns) are NFA regulated Title II firearms. One needs to pay a $200 tax, submit fingerprints, and wait for about a year to get approved to buy one. Not to mention that he/she can buy only rifles manufactured before 1986, which are pretty scarce and therefore really really expensive. Not enough gun control for you?
Do you deny "we need gun control"? Most recently Parkland says we do. When most are looking at the bigger picture of gun control all you do is deflect from the matter at hand by entertaining the minutiae of the weaponry. CRUZ SHOULD NOT HAVE HAD HIS AR-15! There! I said it - do you disagree? To address what needs to be done to prevent these incidents from happening is a discussion of "gun control." A comprehensive examination of these incidents includes everything regarding both the people and the armament; the precise specifications of what is to be controlled need not be addressed at this stage any more than how young is too young to buy certain weapons or how crazy is too crazy to be armed. What is needed if we're ever to get a handle on this is for people to lay their selfishness aside and create a genuine dialogue. I'm speaking specifically, but not exclusively, about politicians who count their money from special interests as having a greater value than innocent lives.
