I honestly think part of it is this whole pussy ass 'no bully' & 'zero tolerance' bullshit. Someone picking on you? Settle it one way or another. People being mean on social media? Find out who it is and confront them - punch them in the mouth if they don't cut the shit. I'm not saying that's the only way to solve problems but it's a real way of dealing with things kids do. You think other kids are going to try the same thing if they know there's repercussions? Kids will have a lot more confidence if they learn how to deal with issues on their own. Kids need to learn how to deal with problems in life without crying to an adult all the time. I'm sure it's much more complex of an issue than that but kids are fucked up and puss like now.
I feel like some of this stems from us(society) always blaming others and feeling like someone else should be held responsible for what has gone wrong in our lives from making McDonald’s pay because you spilled coffee on yourself to more recently tide being criticized for making the laundry pods look like candy. It’s always someone else’s fault. So now these kids are have gotten to the point where everyone must pay because someone in the school was mean to them, a girl broke his heart, he has trouble with his grades etc. even the aftermath, the loudest cry is about an inanimate object and not why he was driven to this in the first pkace
Pretty wild that the kids the perp went to school with kind of expected him to go off at some point. There's got to be a way to prevent someone like that from legally purchasing guns.
Then there was also someone named Nikolas Cruz (don't think it's a coincidence) posting last fall on youtube that he wanted to be a "professional school shooter." It was reported to the FBI who checked on that but were unable to identify the person behind the post (sounds BS to me).
When you're not willing to study a problem and instead effectively treat it like Acts of God it's going to keep happening and people are going to keep dying. If the Auto Industry and car enthusiasts had blocked study of fatal crashes and drunk driving we'd have many more deaths each year from auto accidents than we currently have. Seatbelts, airbags and one strike DUI laws have improved safety in cars significantly over the last 4 decades. I think it is also clear that AR-15's and mentally unstable people, immature people, etc, do not go together and cannot possibly be allowed to co-exist.
Mental health is the real issue here. If you look at the gun ownership numbers for the past few decades (https://www.statista.com/statistics...eholds-in-the-united-states-owning-a-firearm/), it's been pretty much the same. Semi auto handguns and the evil AR-15, which is not really an assault rifle, have been owned by civilians for decades as well. However, the number of school shootings, and especially the number of victims, has been going up (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School_shootings_in_the_United_States). Same amounts of guns, same types of guns, stricter laws to obtain them legally, but more shootings. What changed? There are way more deranged people out there.
We're training mentally unstable youth via an extremely violent online gaming culture that has been picking up steam since the mid-90's.
I don't think it's unreasonable to consider that there might be something to this. Video games are becoming more and more realistic, kids are living more and more in the digital world and are desensitized. Walking around realistic virtual worlds and shooting people up is a part of a lot of kids lives. These games aren't going anywhere either. You can try and make them illegal but that would just make them more desirable and create a black market.
This goes beyond just mental health. Dude is a domestic terrorist and was trained to shoot by also being a member of some white separatist militia group called Republic of Florida. And again we should stop jumping every time to some dude being deranged for shooting up a school or a movie theater. He knowingly and willingly purchased assault weapons like the AR 15 and did what he wanted to do. Shoot people. Its ridiculous how every time after the fact people are dead some folks are like that guy was crazy. Most people we consider normal in prison can act crazy and commit homicides too...but that does not automatically make them people with mental illness. Trump is quick to jump on that. Vegas guy was so calculated and they still have little clue to what his motive was. This thing will keep happening and will not change because the NRA fills deep pockets of many in the right. Its all political left or right until people have to deal with tragedy themselves.
Video games and playing cops and robbers with toy guns as kids have been around forever now. Do we put a stop to paintball too? This guy was angry and he is around guns and enjoys guns. Decided to escalate his anger to mass murder.
Did I say we should stop anything? I think there's a huge difference between playing cops and robbers and spending hours in a virtual reality warzone.
There a huge difference to you with movies that are packed with guns and playing video games too? Video games dont kill people, guns can kill people.
the shooter was in one of those psycho groups with the tiki torches. the type of people that we saw in Charlottesville. sorry poeman already posted about it. Sorry poeman didn't see your post
Well we've had guns in this country for ... ever. Shooting up schools is relatively new. I never said a video game killed anyone. This is a weak comment. What changed? Our moral compass? The way our brains are wired? Soldiers go to war and come back with mental problems. War changes people. These games are getting more and more realistic - like war simulators. Much different than watching a movie.
what makes you say shooting up schools is relatively new? I dont think that at all. People used to grab dad's shotgun and head down to the school plenty of times in previous decades. the only thing that's relatively new is their effectiveness and the coverage of these events
Before columbine you rarely heard of a school getting shot up. Kids used to bring guns to school for target shooting class.
