that's like saying how did dan marino never win a SB? NFL is a team game. he is surrounded by shit. Do you think the skins would have had a better record with say flacco at QB?
It's not really what I'm advocating, I'm simply pointing out the reality of the current situation. As you said, there's a high probability that with Cousins the Jets can get to 8-8 9-8, or slightly better, and that would all but ensure Macc's job, if not Bowles's, so why would Macc NOY pursue Cousins? As for a future GM/HC "being stuck with Cousins", not they wouldn't - if Cousins was seen as not the answer they would get rid of him, expensive as that might be. They cut Revis didn't they? Having Cousins wouldn't stop any candidate from taking the job. Personally I'm all for drafting our FQB, but I can see where the pressure to win now will once again trump patience. And I can also see where the lack of proven QB development by Bowles could really torpedo even a blue chip prospect, setting the Jets back yet again. Bottom line, I'll be disappointed if the Jets sign Cousins, but if they add a Barkley and a stud pass rusher and upgrade the OL along with that I won't slit my wrists.
Yeah, sorry, but if someone states that Cousins would be the best quarterback the Jets HAVE EVER HAD (i.e. better than Namath, O'Brien, Vinny, and Pennington), I'm going to be a hard grader. That's not a good enough excuse. Also, if he is so ridiculously great, why haven't the Redskins locked him up again? Is it possible that the Redskins don't think he is worth the money that he wants? Is it plausible that, given that the team which knows him the best is weary of making him the highest paid quarterback in the league, we should also be weary of making such a commitment? Maybe he's not as good as you guys think he is? Maybe, for once, this franchise should try to avoid the tempting quick fix and draft (and develop) our own guy the right way?
Meh, not really. You wrote that Cousins would immediately be the best quarterback this franchise has ever had. A) I'm skeptical, to say the least. B) I'm wondering why we would expect a QB who couldn't elevate one shitty franchise to be able to elevate another shitty franchise?
I know the bar is low, but seriously our QB history is beyond shit. when was the last time the jets had a pro bowl QB who was with the franchise for at least 5 years? I understand being skeptical for sure. as far as your B goes, the skins are much worse then we are. McCown was 5-8 with us that's McCown Petty was 0-3 Had petty started the whole year how many games would we have won? now imagine if petty or McCown was on the skins you think they'd win 5 games? The skins had the 16th ranked offense 12th in passing but 28th in rushing. their Run game was terrible no threat whatsoever. powell/maguire are actually good RBs. they also didn't have much of a defense either. their leading rusher was 603 yards and 3.4YPC and 1 TD cousins threw for 4000+ yards and their WRs were crowder 789 yards davis (TE) 648 grant 573 doctson 502 thompson (RB) 510 you think that's better then anderson, enunwa, kearse, ASJ, powell, and maguire? I don't think so plus as bad as our o-line was, theirs was worse. they are also strapped for money. The jets have a ton to spend to improve and more draft picks. I'd easily say we are overall in a better position then the skins and landing cousins, a few FAs and drafting well instantly puts us in playoff contention for 2018
What you do not realize is he does elevate them. They are picking 2-3 overall instead of flirting with 500 because of cousins.
The ONLY way that would be realistic is if they're paying him that much on a one year deal like the Redskins have been doing. There's no chance they sign him to a long term deal at that money then draft a QB in the first round. Even in that type of situation (short deal) I'd rather have Drew Brees as my QB than Cousins.
Come on. You know as well as I if they're paying Cousins $50 million guaranteed and compensation of $30+ million per season, that the dead money cap hit would be cost prohibitive to cut him initially. They'd be stuck with more than likely until the last or next-to-last year of the contract. Even then, the dead money hit could be cost prohibitive. They cut Revis when it didn't cost them that much. I totally disagree that having Cousins wouldn't stop any candidate from taking the job. I can see that the pressure to win now is indeed a possibility as far as Woody and Mac are concerned, but that doesn't mean we have to like or accept that Jets should do that. Signing Cousins is the worst possible thing they could do imo, even worse than bringing back Bowles for 2018. If they indeed do sign Cousins, I will be done with this franchise for good, and in fact will start rooting against them until Woody sells the team.
Cousins apologist almost always ignore anything that doesn't fit their narrative and make excuses for his record as the starter. There's this article from the end of October by Maurice Hawkins at the REDSKINSWIRE, and it examines Kirk Cousins record vs the NFC East and needing to finish the season at or above 500. It shows you life with Cousins as your starting quarterback. Some of the tweets shared in that article regarding Cousins are spot on.
says who? you can draft one at 6, let him sit if he excels you can hand him the reigns and trade cousins. if he fails we have cousins. If we really like cousins we can trade him away later. There is always a market for QBs
He really needs to stop bringing up Dan Marino when talking about Kirk Cousins. It's disrespectful. Lol
No one's trading for a mediocre QB with a $30 million per year contract. Why is Washington gonna let him walk if he's worth so d@mn much in a trade?

he won't listen to reason McCown is 23-50 for his career (.315) he was 5-8 for the jets (.375) Cousins is 26-31 for his career (.457)
W-L records mean nothing to me in terms of player analysis. It's a team game. If they were playing for Belichick those W's would be drastically higher..
Sanchez did NOT set this franchise back easily 5-6 years! For that you can thank Tanny, Rex, Idzik. Sanchez was good enough to get them to within 1 game of the SB twice. Could he have won a SB or two? Not by himself, but yeah they could'e won with him. But the Jets allowed the talent that enabled him to succeed to vanish and didn't replace it. And then Rex put the finishing touch on it by putting him into a meaningless p.s. game with the scrubs around him and got him seriously hurt. I'm not saying Sanchez was great, but he was decent enough.
W-L can be misleading but not when we’re gonna spend 30 Mill on a guy w lifetime .457 winning percentage. The skins talent was not great this past season..but their offense has had decent pieces around Cousins at different timeframes; He’s still far from a winning QB.
