LMAO - Ain't that the damned truth. No one wanted to hear about QB rating until his went down.
He did???? That's news to me? Most of his passing yards came on YAC plays by Coles and Cotchery in the same game
The point is that he was the most to blame. He turned over the ball...the RBs didn't, and his incompletions were off...way off...in both the Cleveland and Chicago games, Pennington sailed balls 4 feet over the wrs outstretched arms, and missed the left, right, and short. He played poorly, period. I personally am not saying he is no good, but on those 2 Sundays, his poor play hurt us the most.
the bills lost 4 super bowls with kelly at qb. you won't even get into one with ducky as the starter. is that spine enough even for you?
Wow. (Again, please understand that I am not one of the "Pennyphiles.") I just wanted to point out the awkwardness of your above statement. You wrote the "texans beat j-ville." The Texans. You did not write that David Carr beat the Jaguars. The Texans beat the Jaguars. The Texans. The Jets lost to the Jaguars. The Jets. Chad Pennington happened to be the quarterback and he had a problem that day. But the Jets lost to the Jaguars.
you're right. he also happened to be the qb who lost to cleveland and chicago, while the rest of the team played well enough to win those games. but your point is correct.
In my opinion Pennington was the goat of the Cleveland and Chicago games. (I am not a person who blames the coaching staff for the Chicago loss.) If Pennington blows tomorrow, I will join you in the Pennington bashing.
The team might win games, but there's a reason why 7-4 Plummer is losing his starting job to a rookie. That argument doesn't impress anyone much, the team can win in spite of bad QB play, but it'd win a whole lot more with a QB that actually helps. That's why Boller is gone in Baltimore, and they're a SB contender again, even though McNair probably still isn't completely comfortable with the offense.
The way I see it, is that people are viewing this team a playoff team and are judging it as such. The fact of the matter is, the Jets are an average team (with a tremendous upside with the new HC and youg players), which is being coached up, that MIGHT get into the playoffs with an easy schedule. The run game still sucks. And I don't think it is because of the RBs. Washington and Houston are a GREAT young 1-2 punch, with Barlow being an excellent Red Zone back, ala Bettis last year for Pitt. The problem is the blocking. Clement sucks horse balls, plan and simple. Kendall is getting old, and so his play goes up and down with every game. And Moore, christ, on a good day is average. How many false starts has he had this year? The pass protection received a serous upgrade with Brick and Gold, but the run blocking is bad, really bad at times. The run defense sucks. I don't care if Robertson had one good game, he is not a consistently good NT. What should happen is, the FO sign or draft a big NT next year and move Robertson over to Kimo's spot where he is more suited. Until then, teams are going to keep running through the D-Line like a subway turnstile. As for the rest of the team, well look at my sig and that should tell you what I think the needs are. I am not excusing Penny, at times, he has just been bad. But by the same token, at times he has played well enough to compensate for the team's other deficiencies. When you get down to it, the team is still rebuilding and has A LOT of holes. You can't (in all fairness) put all the blame on one player, or one position (even QB), when there are as many question marks on a team like the Jets. (I will admit though, there have been times I have wanted to reach through the TV and beat CP in the head with my shoe.)
So, in other words, if you don't blindly follow your team and deny the facts about your inept players, you're not a fan of them?
IMHO, Pennington is a good QB who has had a couple bad games. Inept would be someone like Mike Nugent.
Unbelievable how quickly you guys can turn on Chadwick. Guy is the best thing to happen to this franchise in years, gets hurt, and comes back to a lousy team. A team being rebuilt around him. And he carries them for a few games. Then he falls into a bit of a slump. Scratch that, the team does, because the team is not all that talented. So what, he gets hung upside down with a fork in his ass? Insanity. I'd hate to see you guys deal with the Eli Manning Melodrama. Looking at this forum would probably cause your computer to literally burst into flames.
This team isn't that lousy anymore. A lousy team doesn't hold the Bears scoreless for a half and to 10 the entire game. A lousy team doesn't beat the Patriots. A lousy team doesn't get to 5-5 with they'r QB blowing at least 3 games. The team was fairly lousy the first few weeks, and to his credit, Chad managed to get the ball to the WRs so they could un-lousily get large RAC yards. The O-line has excelled in pass block, and a lot of QBs would kill to get the type of protection it gives. The problem is that our QB has been pretty lousy, as the rest of the team got better. It's funny you bring up Eli Manning, he's had a lousy 6 games, where he's had 8 INTs 7 INTs with his team going 4-2 in that span. He got killed for the Bears game, where he had 2 INTs, and rightfully so, yet Chadwick with a similar performance gets a free pass because "the Bears defense is great." He has roughly 920 yards in that time span, although you're free to do the math yourself since I am lazy. Let's contrast that with Chadwick, who in that same time span has 4 TDs 9 INTs for about 864 yardsm again feel free to do the math yourself, my mathematical abilities dull with my age. You can use a calculator if you'd like, but my mental addition should be close. Now Eli is getting absolutely KILLED by the media and Jets fans, but, his stats are clearly superior. So how is a 7 year vet given such a complete pass when the 3rd year starter is getting grilled? At least the 3 year guy has upside, and with a few changes, for instance, letting him run the no-huddle and call his own plays, chances are he'll do really well again. The fact is, the reason for why Eli is getting killed is precisely because there are higher expectations for him. For Chad, getting 180 yards 1 TD 1 INT is considered a GOOD game, for Eli, that's considered a shitty game. Chad has lowered expectations and Jets fans are the only group of fans that accept this pitiful performance and defend him for it. Over the past 3 years, the Broncos have won a TON of games with Plummer as QB, and in the thick of the playoff race, with a better record than the Jets, they're making a QB change. But again, Jets fans view football with green-colored glasses, and are completely unable to grasp reality. Pennington might go out there and have a decent game against the Texans. Then the Chadinettes will once again demand apologies en masse, even though beating the lowly Texans really shouldn't be worthy of much praise. Quite frankly. I'd be stunned if most rookie QBs couldn't achieve that. But hey, for Chadinettes, that's good enough.
You're wrong. He WAS the best thing to happen to this franchise in 2002. He came back in 2003 just to get injured in preseason and perform mediocre when he returned. He came back in 2004 to a decent team and performed pretty well, but, got injured... again. 2005? Comes back to a team with a lot of potential before... getting injured... again... And performs horribly in those 2+ games, fumbling 8 times and throwing 3 interceptions... Comes back from that third injury this year to a bad team that ends up playing well, but, performs badly yet again. I don't view him as a guy who was a franchise savior, hit a low point in his career, and gets turned on. I view him as a mediocre quarterback who can't get it done and had a career year in 2002. A one hit wonder. As far as the team falling into a slump, yes, but in this year, they've done well. You can’t place all of the blame on him, but in the Chicago game, the team played a very winnable game. They probably should have won, too, but Pennington turned the ball over twice in key spots, something he is prone to doing against good defenses. It's not like he's making these idiotic mistakes this year and we're turning on him; he's been doing it his entire career. And it's not like the fans are without reason in losing faith in him. After his 2003 injury, I backed him and said he would be fine after that. After his 2004 injury, I said he'd be fine after that, don't worry about it. Then he goes out and gets another major injury in 2005. You can't just sugar coat something and pretend it isn't what it is. I'd like to believe that Chad Pennington can return to his 2002 form. I'd like to believe that he isn't injury prone. I'd like to believe that he can make those key throws when he needs to. I'd like to believe that he can throw a ball with zip. I'd really like to. The fact is, Pennington is now 30 years old. It's unlikely that he'll ever return to his 2002 form. He is getting older and still hasn't "turned the corner" into becoming a very good quarterback. He probably won't, either. He can still perform as an average stop gap quarterback, who can fill in for a year or two while a team grooms a young quarterback. A better version of the present day Kurt Warner. I'd also like to believe that he isn't injury prone, but again, probably untrue. He's gotten 2 major injuries with the rotator cuff and the muscle below his throwing shoulder, and then the "minor" injury in his broken wrist. Fact is, he has problems staying healthy. I'm not going to say it's his fault, but you know what, he DOES keep getting injured, freak injuries or not, they've happened way too often. He's rarely ever been able to make those key throws I was talking about. He made that great throw to Santana Moss in the back of the end zone against San Diego in the 2004 Playoffs, but I can't think of many others. He's lost to New England so many times. He's lost to other great times, such as Chicago this year. The Steelers in the 2004 playoffs. Hell, even against the Steelers in the 2004 regular season where he completed just slightly above 50% of his passes and threw 3 interceptions. He just isn't that type of quarterback. Pennington won't be able to lead you to those late comebacks against good teams. He won't be able to beat those good teams in close games, either. He is just incapable of doing. Maybe it's his approach. Maybe he's too nervous. Or, maybe he's just not a good NFL-caliber quarterback who can lead a team to the Super Bowl. I'm not saying that if Pennington wasn't so bad and inconsistent this year that we would have gone anywhere. I wasn't buying into the playoff hype after the start, or after beating New England. I thought it was stupid. Despite our over achievements, we're still a team without much talent, and it's still Mangini's rookie year as a coach with two rookie coordinators. The fact that we are 5-5 at this point without that much talent and with three rookie coaches is a miracle, and I'll gladly accept it. I wasn't expecting more than 5 wins this season, and we had that after 9 games. Even with the low expectations, even after the start, I can't just "let it slide" with Pennington. Now that we have seen what we have and where we are as far as talent and coaching abilities, we have to look towards the future, and this future can NOT include Chad Pennington in it. By the time this team is "ready" for a strong playoff run, Chad Pennington will be past his prime, if he isn't already. I still don't think you can bench him at this point in the season, either. That is just conceding the season. It's too early to do that. It's a loser's mentality. Yes, you want to get Kellen Clemens in as soon as possible to get experience. At the same time, you can't throw him in at a point where we are 5-5 with a playoff "chance," as people see it. Although I know we aren't going to make it, the pressure and situation just isn't right for Clemens just yet. As far as Ramsey goes, no. Just no. Just say no. Listen to Nancy Reagan. He isn't any better off than Pennington is. Probably worse. Besides, there is no point in benching Pennington for him anyway because Pennington has already reached the incentives to get the full $9,000,000. Pennington will still need to play this season out. I still think he puts us in the best position to win THIS YEAR. But I can't fathom him being with us in the future. His time is up. We can see him. He isn't good. He won't get good. He's injury prone. He can't beat the good defenses. We have to look elsewhere. Whether it's Clemens, a free agent, another draft pick, or whatever, it's NOT Chad Pennington.
