After boychuck and dehaan they have no one that is good enough to keep forwards out of scoring areas. Mayfield has been bad since his days in Bridgeport, Casey is a hard worker but not big enough, Peleck is soft as a pretzel. It doesn't help their forwards are all soft as noodles, Bailey is always out of position on defense, reaching with his stick like it's a pickup game. Brock, Ladd, Eberle, Ho Sang don't play enough defense. Barzal and Tavares try as they are the only true 2 way players islanders have. Anders Lee is just not fast enough to be a legit 2 way forward. They have to make a trade but it's too early, wait and see who the sellers are and pull the trigger. If they can stay like this through January they will be in good shape barring any injuries.
Down 3-1 late 3rd period on the road and they come back to tie it to get a point is impressive. Despite losing in OT I can't complain as they picked up a point which is very important considering how tough this division is.
Menace I am beyond shocked that they have not made a move yet,,,,,you deal make trades from strength not from weakness and while they are winning IMO would be a good time
The defense and especially the goaltending(both Halak and Greiss) have been below average most of the season. That is the reason why I think the Isles will be a playoff bubble team especially with the way the division is. I wish we had a real GM who could fix the problem but we don't.
Two points against one of the best teams in the league is great, but would have been more satisfying holding on for a regulation win.
No one is willing to trade away good defensemen anymore. They are like gold in today's NHL, they will also cost a lot to acquire, unless you settle for a Phaneuf with a bloated contract teams have to wait till tread deadline until they have a little leverage. Something else teams are doing is developing their young players including defensemen, it's not that easy to acquire good players in trades anymore.
Great news Islander fans. The Isles won the bid the build a new arena at Belmont. They are coming home back to LI on the LI/Queens border. Both Newsday and NY Post are reporting it. Done deal we get our own arena. Go to Islandermania.com which is a great Isles message board.
Great news for you guys and the Isles..... wish they played here when I was a kid. My Grandparents lived in Floral park on a dead end street that backed up to the backside of Belmont My brother's the bigger hockey fan, and lives in Island Park. He's pretty pumped
Petrozza how about the I think it was 25 shots we put on net in the second period ? To lose to the Redwings is bad,,,,,Im on board with making a few moves but it aint happening until the deadline if at all . We need better goaltending and we need to shore up our defense especially now that Dahann is done,,,,,and I absolutely hate our 3rd and 4th lines,,,all our scoring is from our top 2 lines . On a better note at least they are building a new place to play, I love Brooklyn but the Barclays for hockey sucks
