That's the only logical thing that holds water as to why they continue to play McCown, the only logical thing. And the entire blame has to go to Mac for not emphasizing the point to Bowles that his job is to develop the young players, including QB, to determine what course of action this franchise will take in the coming months. It's very obvious Mac didn't provide any reassurance to Bowles about his future with the Jets .....how the h$ll else would he be playing a 38 year old?? Otherwise it just makes no sense. What DECENT organization in their right minds would continue to play a 38 year old that has had no winning history , knowing he has no future with the team? Only the Jets.
You bet I am. What makes sense is this HC wants a contract extension and feels McClown gives him the best chance for that. For Blowes, the future is now...
I'm sure the coaches and Bowles aren't the purist I am. I can understand their approach. They're coaching for their jobs and their reputations. Of course they want to win as much as they can, and to a point, it makes sense to go with the veteran McCown. There are no guarantees that any of the CS will be back next season, unless Woody has given them some sort of guarantee behind the scenes. This is where I think the team is being hurt by the org chart. If Mac was Bowles' superior, he could order Bowles to play Petty. Honestly, I would rather see Petty play and the Jets lose than for McCown to start and the Jets win. I have already written this season off in terms of W-Ls. IMO this season is about evaluating the players on the team and developing those who can help the team going forward, and giving Mac all the information he can get to help guide him in making decisions next off season. I do think that Mac wants to see at least Hack and hopefully, Petty play as well. I fear that you may be right that he has given up on Petty. If so, my trust in Mac will wane substantially. If nothing else' Petty's attitude and playing so well this TC when he was obviously given short shrift in terms of reps and playing time, should cause Mac to reconsider. You want players with attitudes like Petty. If nothing else, Petty has already shown that he can be the best backup QB we've had in several decades. That's nothing to sneer at, because we all know how frequently QBs go down with injuries. If for no other reason, they ought to be playing Petty to further develop him and get him experience. I know that Mac wants Hack to develop, but he may never develop. It's better to have found a quality backup in the draft in the 4th round, than waste him too trying to develop a QB taken in the 2nd round, that to date, hasn't shown half the poise, moxie, accuracy, or consistency that Petty has. It does make sense to start McCown this week since it would be throwing Petty in cold vs the Pats, but imo Petty should have gotten the start against the Browns and maybe the Jags too, to settle down and have some time to get ready to face the Pats. I hope McCown plays so terribly, and the Pats blow us out so that Bowles is forced to go to Petty next week, but the truth is, McCown would probably have to suck 4-5 games straight before Bowles would bench him, and even then, you're probably right that Hack would get the nod to start. If that does happen, I hope that Petty demands to be traded and refuses to ever suit up for the Jets again. He deserves better, even if all he ever becomes is a solid backup. Bowles, Gailey, and maybe Morton and Mac as well, have totally mishandled the development of Petty and Hack. If the Jets beat the Patriots this week, I'd be shocked if McCown is ever benched this season, and next season will be a continuation of the same bungled handling of the QB position. If that happens they can fold the franchise for all I care.
1. If Petty isn't here for a while, then it is because Mac and Bowles are clueless morons or Petty told them to fuck off and demanded a trade or walked as soon as he became a FA. Petty can play. If nothing else, he's the best backup we've had in decades and that shouldn't be treated lightly. 2. They have experience now. The Jets have two very experienced WRs. They have lots of experience at the RB position. They have an experienced OL. They've had some experienced TEs on the roster. McCown has imparted knowledge/wisdom to the team already. Those same veteran WRs, RBs and others can help a young QB to develop. IMO the problem here is the Jets' org chart. I think if it was up to Mac, either Petty or Hack would be starting. Bowles is coaching for his career, however, so he's going to ride McCown as long as he can or until he is forced by McCown's getting injured, playing abysmally for multiple games, or Chris Johnson ordering him to switch to one of the youngsters. Bowles doesn't care about the future of the Jets or their young players, because he knows there's a good chance that he won't be here next year. He's auditioning for his next job. If I were an owner or GM, I wouldn't even consider hiring him however, and not because of whatever he has done right or wrong in the last 2 years. The Jets are rebuilding. They need to find out what they have in Petty and Hack. I wouldn't hire him because he put himself and his career over what was best for the team/franchise.
Plus 100 These guys want a paycheck like everyone else ...can't blame them for that So the Vet plays and collects some wins so the CS has a little better resume...that's life in the NFL and lots of players need their Agents to advocate for them or find them a better deal..not so with Petty as he has been loyal to the Jet org Petty really deserved a trade long ago..then when someone really improves him he tell the Jets to eat crow The Hackenberg pick was stupid because if it was done considering Petty is not that good all you got was a JV QB who blew it at PSU...lmao great scouting IMO they keep Petty and Hack for future trade bait , especially after this season implodes into a string of L's even playing McCown into the dirt
People are seriously advocating a qb change while the division is still up for grabs? Nothing will happen, barring injury, until the team is mathematically eliminated assuming mccown keeps playing like he is playing. That is not being the reason they lose. The media got everyone with the tank talk and now they can't wrap their heads around what reality is.
Of course it is, coaches coach to win games. We hated him last year because he didn't win enough and now we crucify him for trying to win too many? And the logic that he is playing mccown over petty because he wants to win means that petty is not as good as mccown. Which isn't a high bar, so why should petty be starting again?
I agree with most everything except I don't think the division is up for grabs at all. This team got 2 lucky wins. Lets be real, they were both extremely lucky. If they were 1-4 like they should be right now, there would be no question we should roll with Petty. But Jacksonville gifts us a win and Cleveland pisses the game away and all of a sudden its absurd to suggest it? There should not be any talk of mathematically eliminated because this team isn't a contender in the first place. But that is how the staff will look at it, you are right.
How are they going to get anything for Petty and Hack if they don't play? Teams were interested in Petty last offseason, and maybe his showing in preseason would help, but with Petty not even being given a fair chance in the supposed QB competition in TC this year could also hurt Petty. I can't imagine that anyone would give anything, not even a couple of kicking tees, for Hack at this point. He has shown way too little.
Falk is another great option...we are gonna get somebody with talent in this draft to play QB. Whether or not he develops into someone that can be a so called franchise QB is another story
Yes, but theirs a sucker born every minute ahaha Maybe Mac trades and throws in the Brooklyn Bridge too
Beckham followed the Giants tank plan by getting hurt Sunday...some teams just know how to do it the right way SMH
Simple my dear Watson... McClown is NOT the future of the team. The logic you used is not the logic I used. Playing McClown over Petty means Blowes wants either a contract extension or to go out on a higher note. In Blowes' opinion, there is nothing Petty can do to be good enough to play. Especially since everyone knows who Macc's preference is to be the heir apparent. It has absolutely nothing to do with Petty being better. Its the higher level agendas at play here and that's why I still say the worst thing that could have happened to Brice Petty was that he got drafted by the Jets. For whatever reason, Petty is not Blowes' idea of a QB and it shows in the shit treatment Petty has received his entire time here. From being judged for playing behind a team that quit, playing behind a HS level OLine that couldn't block kittens, to not being able to play with the starters ONCE during preseason. Throw in the sham "QB Competition" and I think I've laid out quite the case here for Petty getting fckd by the Jet organization. This is what happens when your GM wants to rebuild but your HC wants to win now. You can try to do the competitive rebuild thing but in this case, it hasn't worked yet. Now you could make the case to cut/trade/release Petty and keep Hacc around another 4-5 years too which is the direction I think they're gonna go.
How do you justify pulling McClown to the rest of the team when they see first hand how far ahead of Petty and Hack he is. Shit wins against shit teams or not , the team is playing hard , fighting for wins. You want to just pull the rug out from under their feet with the tough games coming up? The team would quit on Bowled and the coaching staff and rightfully so. If McClown gets injured, then all bets are off. But when playing for first place in the division , you can't bench your QB. Judging by the upcoming games the train could quickly derail. Once the losses pile up, the change could be made but now is not the time!
This is it in a nutshell. Though I would love to see the Jets wipe the field with the Pats this weekend, what is the lesser of 2 evils?
Lets take a quick look into the not too distant past: https://gnb.247sports.com/Bolt/Form...ame-each-other-for-Brett-Favre-trade-46609477 Here's a situation where the GM wanted a player but the coach didn't like the player. End result? Atlanta trades Brett Farve (drafted 33rd) to Green Bay. Atlanta had to wait until Matt Ryan for another shot at a FQB. They had one on the roster but let him walk because of bad judgement by the HC.. Sound familiar?? We'll never know because Blowes will never play Petty unless forced to. Want to take a look at the GM's who passed on Prescott? If it wasn't for Romo's injury, Prescott doesn't get to play. Maybe the Jets could be so lucky for once and get dragged into their future kicking and screaming. If Morton was the HC and said Petty sucks, I'd accept that. WTF exactly does Blowes know about QB's? Maybe as much as Rex?? Point being this... If the Jets want to roll with a QBsaurus, that's their decision. I don't like it and I don't have to like it. Trying to justify their myopic view of Petty by saying he sucks when clearly the CS is doing everything in their power to make sure Petty sucks is complete bullshit and I will never accept that as valid period. #TradeOrReleasePettyNow!!
Reality is another mediocre season in a long line of mediocre seasons concluding with a mediocre record. I can actually see them signing McClown to another contract. I mean, Fitz had a career season and managed to fleece McGag out of $6mil so why not McClown. All McClown has to do is finish the season on his feet and he's golden. Then we'll hear about all the great things he does and how our non-playing young Qb's are learning soooo much by sitting on their collective asses with a clipboard year after year. In the end, we have an ancient QB taking playing time away and thereby postponing the future. Oh yeah, we still won't have our QBoTF. Oh well.. Such is life.. #WeAreBeige
The more I think about it, the more it makes sense that they've removed Petty from their QB calculus. Why? I do not know, maybe he sent naked photos of himself to Mac's mother. Could be anything. But if you take him out of the equation, and you're left with McCown and Hack, the decision stay with McCown until mid-season or later makes a lot of sense. Let McCown get the team on the right track, then, when the playoffs are out of reach, turn it over to Hack and let him show what he can do. Once you see what Hack can do, you find out if you're in the market for two QBs or three QBs this offseason. Petty's only purpose is to hold the fort if McCown gets hurt before they're ready to hand it over to Hack. Of course, this begs the question: why didn't they get rid of Petty last offseason then? The only thing that makes sense is that they made the decision after the draft at some point. Maybe he sent the naked photos during training camp, or early in the preseason. If he's going to get a chance to prove himself, it's going to have to come in the next couple of games. Otherwise, he's getting passed over. If this is the case, and I can't see any other logical way to read the evidence, then, I think Hack is the only QB on the roster that has a realistic chance of being on the roster next year. How he performs when he gets the on the field will dictate whether he comes into 2018 as the starter, #2, #3, or not at all. Now, there remains an outside chance that they're not closing the door on Petty, but rather on Hack. That would reverse all of this, but I don't think it's very likely.
