Yes you have to be able to identify and draft the right players in the draft, but I'm not convinced that Mac isn't the right guy or that our scouting dept. needs replacement.

Where the Jets have been mostly failing since Mac's and Blowes' arrival is in the developing a whole team. They have been too obsessed with the D, and ignored the offense, and few of their players have developed. We haven't seen any regression until last year with Revis and then this year with the DL as a whole. That has to be on the CS, be it the position they're putting the players in, or the philosophy the DC and HC have, and their game plans.

People have been prattling on about how bad Lee is and that he's a bust, and funny that when Blowes finally wises up and changes the D alignment and plays Lee at OLB, he suddenly begins to look like a good player. Those things aren't on Mac, but Blowes.

I believe that's what we ALL want, but in the meantime, while we're waiting for that to happen, we'd be happy to settle for something to actually cheer about and have some hope. Some of us have lost about all hope. Unless Petty shows that he can be their FQB this season or the Jets can draft a Rosen or Darnold in the 2018 draft, I'm probably done following this team and holding out any hope that they'll ever get it right. I'm sick and tired of it. I was almost gone in 2008, then Rex gave some short-lived hope, that was dashed.

As long as the Johnsons own the team, the Jets may never get it right. So you wouldn't then take a one and done SB just in case?

I don't think there were any holdovers. I'm pretty sure that Mac started fresh with an entirely new scouting dept.

I could be mistaken, but I don't think this is true; I think he went into his first draft with the old scouting department. Which isn't unusual; there's not enough time after an NFL season to hire a new GM, hire new scouts (most of whom are under contract through the draft anyway), and analyze draft talent. There was a purge of the scouting department after the draft, though.

Edit: Yes, Macc did keep the old scouts around through the 2015 Draft, and then purged the department afterwards. He did fire Terry Bradway before the draft, though. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2015/05/jets_fire_pro_personnel_director_brendan_prophett.html

Right. So what I said 1 page ago.

At any rate, Maccagnan has responsibility for the 2015 selections but we can blame Bradway for the intel.

    2016+ It’s all on Maccagnan.

The most important thing is seeing how our young guys play. The WR’s seem to be having fun and Adams seems legit.

Following is a look at how the Jets' Scouting and Personnel Dept. has changed since 2014 (the year before Mac was hired).

Jets Add Stigall, Turner to College Scouting Staff
    Posted May 30, 2014

    By Jets Staff

The Jets have added two experienced scouts to the college scouting staff in Johnathon Stigall and Seth Turner.

Stigall comes to the team from the Cleveland Browns, where he scouted the Midland and Southwest regions for the past four years. Before the Browns he scouted for Philadelphia from 2006-10, Miami from 2000-06 and Chicago from 1999-2000.

Turner arrives from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, where he spent the previous 13 years. He began in pro personnel in 2000 and then became a college scout the next season. As a college area scout, Turner has handled the Southeast, Midwest and Northwest regions.

From the Jets' college scouting staff this past season, Aaron Glenn has left to take a position as assistant defensive backs coach with the Browns and area scout David Boller will not return for the coming season.

Jets' 2014 Scouting & Personnel Dept.:

Senior Director of College Scouting - Terry Bradway
Director of College Scouting - Jeff Bauer
Director of Pro Personnel - Brendan Prophett
Assistant Director of Pro Personnel - Matt Barzigan
    College Scout - Jonothon Stigall
    College Scout - Seth Turner
ALL I COULD FIND - DOES ANYONE HAVE A 2014 JETS' YEARBOOK WITH THE SCOUTS LISTED?

    2015

    http://www.newyorkjets.com/news/art...ng-Staff/a00a900e-1363-44fe-8a2c-bbe6cdbb4bc1

General manager Mike Maccagnan has announced the reorganization of the Jets scouting staff underneath senior director of college scouting Rex Hogan with the hiring of seven new scouts joining two scouts from last year's staff. Here is our new alignment of college scouts:

    Area Scouts

    Xavier Adibi — Plains

Adibi was a linebacker drafted out of Virginia Tech by Houston in the fourth round (118th overall) of the 2008 draft. He played for the Texans, Vikings and Titans, then scouted for the Chiefs

    Bill Dekraker — Northeast

Dekraker has worked in NFL scouting departments with Washington, Carolina, Arizona and Dallas, scouting the Midwest and Northeast for the Cowboys since 2008.

    Dom Green — Southwest

Green spent the past six seasons as a Kansas City scout, which followed three seasons as a scout with Tampa Bay.

    Jay Mandolesi — Southeast

Mandolesi enters his 12th season with the Jets and his seventh as a college area scout.

    Brian Shields — West Coast

Shields comes to the Jets after spending six seasons with St. Louis and the past two as the Rams' West Area scout.

    Johnathon Stigall — Midwest

Stigall returns for his second season with the Jets after scouting for 15 seasons split among the Bears, Dolphins, Eagles and Browns.

    National Scouts

    Lee Gissendaner — East Coast

Gissendaner was a Northwestern WR who was drafted by the Houston Oilers in the sixth round (187th overall) of the 1994 draft. He never played in the NFL but did play for the CFL's Toronto Argonauts and the WLAF's Scottish Claymores. He had been a Green Bay area scout since 1998.

    Jim Jauch — West Coast

Jauch (pronounced "yalk") has a new employer 3,000 miles away from the Chargers, the team he scouted for since 2010, but his specialty will remain the West Coast as a Jets national scout. He's the son of Ray Jauch, a former coach in the CFL, USFL and the Arena League.

    Zach Truty — Central

Truty was an area scout with the Bears, whom he joined as a scouting assistant in 2012.

Following is the Jets' 2015 Scouting & Personnel Dept.:

    Director, Player Personnel Brian Heimerdinger
    Director, Pro Scouting Matt Bazirgan
Senior Director, College Scouting Rex Hogan
    Coordinator, College Scouting Dan Zbojovsky
    National Scout Zach Truty
    National Scout Lee Gissendaner
    National Scout Jim Jauch
    Pro Scout Andy Davis
    Pro Scout Tom Gibbons
    Pro Scout Greg Nejmeh
    College Scout Brian Shields
    College Scout Johnathon Stigall
    College Scout Dom Green
    College Scout Jay Mandolesi
    College Scout Xavier Adibi
    College Scout Bill Dekraker

To coin a well worn phrase: "Even a blind squirrel can find a nut on occasion" or better yet: "A Stopped Clock is right twice a day". Point is, even Macc given an extremely limited amount of choices could somehow manage to pick a ripe apple out of a barrel of ripe apples.

    No changes from 2015

Following is the Jets current Scouting Dept.:

Vice President, Player Personnel Brian Heimerdinger
    Director, College Scouting Matt Bazirgan
    Coordinator, College Scouting Dan Zbojovsky
    Player Personnel Executive Zach Truty
    Player Personnel Executive Rich Snead

    College Scout Bill Dekraker
    Area Scout Evan Ardoin
Seasonal Intern, Pro Personnel Ray Agnew

    Seasonal Intern, Scouting Drew Morris
    Seasonal Intern, Scouting Salim Powell

So there were a few changes and a promotion or two, but it is basically the same as 2017. The changes are bolded.

    ****
Wonder why the Jets' scouting has been so bad? Well, one reason seems to be that the Jets never took it that seriously. They are the only team to ever have hired a woman scout. Connie Carberg was a scout for the Jets from 1976-1980.

It says he fired all 5 guys at the top of the scouting department.....That's very good, but how many guys are in the scouting department? If the answer is 7, then he's done. If the answer is 3,521, we've got a long way to go. If the answer is "somewhere in between", then, in my opinion, we are somewhere in between.

Yes, he went into the 2015 draft with the same Scouting & Personnel Dept., but he changed it immediately following. That's what I meant or was trying to say. Following the 2015 draft he fired almost everyone. Jonothon Stigall is still on the staff.

Lee looked better, but still not 'good.' He ended up with a bunch of tackles from some trusty pile jumping.

The rest of the defense was good though and masked the fact that he was still a deer in headlights when the ball was snapped.

The kid has such poor instincts.

We can't even do that that effectively. 9 straight first round draft picks on defense in 8 years. 4 remain on the roster.

Kyle Wilson, Quintin Coples, Calvin Pryor, Dee Milliner, and Sheldon Richardson are all gone.

Coples must really not have the will or motor to play in this league. He was used incorrectly here, but he was a solid run stopper and I could've seen him being a quality 3-4 end. Must not really give a shit. Because he's 6'6", 290 with speed.

Leo, Wilk, Lee & Adams remain. Wilk may not last much longer himself. Lee will likely stay because of his draft position/rookie deal.

Honestly, if he continues to suck, I'd love to just see them turn Darron Lee into a special teams ace. The kid can fly. Let him be our Larry Izzo/Matthew Slater. Get some use out of him.
