Young men in the United States are more interested in watching esports than they are regular sports, according to new survey findings published by company Limelight Networks. Surveying a total of 4,000 people of different ages, genders and education levels from countries like France, Germany, India, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, United Kingdom, and United States, Limelight found that while esports are at the bottom of the list when it comes to global viewership, 22 percent of "American millennials," out of 500 Americans polled, say they regularly watch competitive gaming. More interestingly, males between the ages of 18 and 25 in the United States say they prefer esports over traditional sports – coming in second overall in preferred media behind movies. The results were collected between June 22nd and June 25th. © Limelight Networks With viewership among millennials dropping in recent years, even the Olympics are considering bring video games into the mix – but not if they're violent. Disney has also expressed interest in the burgeoning industry, and Blizzard just opened its own esports area in Los Angeles. http://www.msn.com/en-us/news/welln...h-more-esports-than-regular-sports/ar-AArSxqo
Because it wasn't bad enough when kids would choose play video games instead of building skills and knowledge to succeed in real life. Now they are too lazy to play, and opt out to watch someone else play.
What the fuck is watching "esports"? you mean they're watching people play video games? The future of this country is beyond fuct!
My daughter watches you tube videos of people playing video games, she is active too, soccer, bmx, gymnastics, but on her down time she will watch these videos. I don't understand it at all. We are headed for a matrix type existence.
Yep, my daughter does the same thing. Same deal: does gymnastics and dancing, pretty good grades, but watches some annoying couple play Minecraft on Youtube. My son did the same thing when he was younger, now he just wastes his time on PS4. Maybe it's a phase. I sure hope so. Sadly, the day Einstein feared has arrived
I'm one of those people who has watched e-sports, or youtubers playing games. Watching youtubers is usually about personalities for me. There are a few who put out the occasional 3-10 minute clip with just funny moments in them, so it's more about the banter than just the content. E-Sports, it's a bit like watching NFL, where you enjoy seeing the extreme skill and teamwork on display.
People actually get good sponsorship deals for those things and it's getting popular with live streaming. Whether you want to deny it or not, plenty of video games do take lots of skill, and watching the pros play can help you improve your skills and maybe one day get that big payday from a sponsor. I mean seriously, it's not any different than watching something like football, it's just not a physical game. It's mental decision making, hand eye coordination, situational awareness, teamwork and being the best in the world at what you do. Some people are just entertained by watching people play other games on TV. I mean come on. The entertainment industry is HUGE. People being annoyed about this need to seriously reevaluate themselves. Football is no different. It's watching somebody else play a game.
Next you're going to tell me guys spend more time watching porn on the internet than having real sex.
Dick-eye coordination, learning from the pros, potential sponsorship... You get the pic Although tbh Olympic porn is an intriguing idea.
There is some real money in esports and just gaming in general. So many pros in video gaming now quit being pros and now just stream playing video games where they make more money playing from home then on pro teams. Crazy stuff
I'm sure it's true, but still don't understand the appeal of spending hours watching someone else play.
I have watched games on Twitch, but only from the idea I was interested in buying it and wanted to get an extended peak of it. I don't have a profile, but it seems to be a community thing where people in the chats know each other and blow it up.... Crap goes so fast I can't even read it.
The company that figures out how to sell the esport team merchandise into mass retail is going to make a killing.
It's ironic to me. As someone who despises the boring, tediousness of the NBA, I always compared watching a basketball game to watching someone play a video game ... and now people are even doing THAT! Unreal.
I watch EVO every year. Its entertaining. Still pissed the American lost to the Japanese in street fighter v when he was up 2 sets. No nerves.... Anywho its like watching football or any other pro sport. These people are good and it takes a good amount of problem solving and strategy on top of hand i coordination. It always kills me when people complain about this sort of thing like its something new. Like we haven't done this with other mediums in the past. Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Gay. Very gay. Are we still allowed to say that? I'm from the bridge generation (25) that grew up with video games but still went out and remained active in sports and played sports at the park down the road. I have relatives and older friends that have kids that do not engage in sports or running around outside whatsoever. It's sad.
Lol, it was a joke. My generation grew up with referring to things being gay not having anything to do with being gay or liking members of their own sex. The term was turned into being lame or whack. Sorry if I offended you or anyone.
