We couldn't renegotiate? He can still play. I guess we want to see what we have in younger guys, but I don't know....not fun.
That was a depressing article to read about how he didn't know he was being cut, so he didn't say bye to all the unknown staff (to us) in the facility.
Personally, I'm always grateful when I can skip the awkward goobye portion of a visit or whatever. If you enjoyed a genuine bond with a person, even someone you only saw for a few minutes a day, then you had plenty of chances along the way to express your affection and gratitude. Assuming you did that, a formal goodbye is unnecessary. The love is felt. If on the other hand you never shared anything genuine, never said thank you or gave someone a hug, then what's the point of making some sappy production at the end? Skip it.
One week away until the NFL Season, and no one has signed Nick. I have to assume his ankle just never cooperated this offseason. Could be the end of the line for one of my favorite All-Time Jets. Time will tell. A team could have an injury and be desperate and sign him.
Maybe teams have approached him and he isn't interested? Could just be on the down low, or there could be no interest. Mangold is the type of player a team like this should've kept. Let him organize the line calls and simplify everything for the young quarterback by letting an All-Pro worry about the protecion. But we're just not forward thinking enough to think about things like that. Woody saw the 2-14 to 4-12 writing on the wall and wanted to pay as little money possible if those are the results we're going to yield.
Last time I checked Ravens wanted him to play guard. Shame, we could really use Nick. If he's not healthy right now, id bring him back next year to help the new qb
To me it makes more sense to pay Mangold to be an on-the-field-coach than it does to pay McCown. He would really help this OL gel.
I totally agree that he shouldn't have been just released, especially without discussing it with him, or asking him to take a pay cut. It just makes no sense when you have young QBs you want to develop. I have to think that Woody ordered it to save him some money in a rebuilding year. If not, and it was Mac's idea, then we may be in more trouble than I thought. As of a month or so ago, Mangold claimed that he had not been contacted by any teams. I can't imagine why he would say that they hadn't if they had, but there easily could be some reason I haven't thought of, or someone may have contacted him since then.
I dunno. I always loved his comittment and toughness, and his excellent level of play. But in a rebuilding year, I don't think you change culture with a hobbled old vet making 4X the salary of those playing next to him. I'm glad he was a Jet and thank him for his play over all those good years, but there comes a time to move on. Take care Nick, it was great to have you.
Has he not recovered from injury or is his open support of Trump causing him to be whiteballed from the nfl? Is he a redneck?
His 'open support of Trump'? You mean like Woody's open support of The Donald? I doubt that would get Nick whiteballed....it'd probably get him a new contract
