Absolutely pathetic game today. Pennington going throw for throw with Rex Grossman for the worst QB in the NFL honors and 2 mind bogglingly idiotic decisions by the coaching staff.

The first is of course what I'm sure will be the much talked about onside kick. From a tactical standpoint there is literally no way to defend taking this risk coming out of the locker room at the half. I thought this was as bad as it gets. Until...

Punting with 6:11 left deep inside Chicago territory down by 10 points. Essentially the Jets were saying here that they felt they had a better chance to generate points with their defense and the Bears pinned back in their territory then of Pennington completing a pass for 12 yards or more on 4th down. Having watched the rest of the game this assessment may in fact have been correct. But in reality punting there is giving up. The fact that the Jets wouldnt even entertain the thought of a 49 yard FG with Nugent says volumes about him as well.

Of course if that gutless punt with 6 minutes left is a prelude to the benching of Chad Pennington next week then I'm willing to accept it and my faith in Mangini and Co will be restored. I refuse to believe that Pennington "gives the Jets the best shot to win" when he's overthrowing guys by 10 yards on simple outs and singlehandedly sabotages 2 scoring drives with miserable throws. It's enough with him already.

There were some pretty questionable calls, but I'm not sure I'm ready to start our backup when we still have a chance at the wildcard. IF Chad starts shitting the bed against teams who don't have the #1 defense in the league, then I'd consider benching him.

Yeah the new regime is moronic. I EXPECTED to beat the Pats AND Bears. This is unnacceptable!

....People need to relax, yeah the coaches made some bad calls today but that happens. I think Chad's play is what we should be concerned about. No need to hit the panic button though.

  4. ...So b/c of 2 questionable calls in 1 game..you are questioning the entire regime? Step back and think about that for a minute..

Pointless! You lose a game to one of the teams with a best record and whine????? I see a team learning how to play that hit a wall.....I mean we got bageled again and while this is NOT a good thing it shouldnt surprise you...taken a look at our rankings recently....we have skated thru up to this point...contending every game while giving up hundreds of yards...I see good things ahead...but not much this year...!...expect a couple of odd losses ahead

My faith in the new regime is not shaken but my faith with Chad is hanging by a thread.

We were down 10 points going into the 4th quarter and I was racking my brains trying to remember the last time Chad brought us back from 2 scores down in the 4th quarter. Couldn't come up with a comeback like that though. Might just be my faulty memory.

If Chad is benched sure. The Jets are going nowhere with him at the helm. If the CS cant' recognize that, coupled with some of the decisions made today there are going to be some very serious doubts creeping into my head about their ability to build a true contender.

I just can't seem to reconcile the 2 decisions. How are you so ridiculously aggressive coming out of the locker room at halftime when the game is tied and your defense has held the opposition to negative passing yards? Yet when you're down 10 and the game is over if you don't score you punt the ball because you don't think you can gain 12 yards?

In my mind if you have that little faith in your QB then there's absolutely no way you can send him back out there again.

No it's not, Mangini coached an absolutely miserable game and it's largely his fault that we lost today (though Pennington takes the ultimate blame.)

We have a rookie CS so I'll give them a free pass on this one, but they have to improve from this point.

I don't know about doubting the regime, but my faith in Chad is about as low as it's ever been. At the same time, I don't think you make a QB switch right now. The team is still 5-5 and he won a big game up in New England just last week. Play out the season with Chad and if he continues to stink it up, cut ties or bench him next year.

Being here after a loss is terrible and actually makes me angry. We lost to an 8-1 team coming in with the best defense in the league. Sure, Pennington didn't play his best game, but he was also facing a defense that was extremely fast and good. Not many QB's have a good game against the Bears.

It's mostly Chad's fault. his interceptions KILLED us.

i can't fault Mangini for being aggressive (onside kick), actually trying to do something to spark the team TO WIN THE GAME. after bashing herm and kotite and coslett and carroll for years for ultra-conservative BS I'm not going to be a hypocrite and turn on Mangini just because if it didn't work out.

if the Jets recover the kick and score a TD, everybody praises him.

Probably Clemens is not ready and Ramsey is not good enough. If that is the case, the coaching staff is not messing up by sticking with Pennington.

The Jets should be able to get to 9-7. Maybe that means the playoffs and maybe it doesn't. The offseason will be about figuring out what they want to do with the QB position. But right now, Pennington is the guy. If anyone has a major problem with that, he/she can root for another team, I suppose.

The 2 decissions were directly connected. The onside kick and the punt were both the result of a loss of faith in Chad's ability to beat the Bears D. On the other hand sending Clemens out againt the Bears in a close game is not the right move either. They might have put in Ramsey after the Bears went up 10 but they may not have wanted to put up a white flag to the rest of the O on a Sunday. That might be a better move on Monday.

ok you know what. I am very annoyed with the people on this board. Everyone is so fickle. One day chad is the comeback kid, the patriot slayer and the next day everyone wants to bench him after a bad game against the top ranked defense in the league. OK, let's bench chad and start A) Patrick Ramsey who is just awful in every way imaginable or B) Kellen Clemens who has yet to play a full game and the one glimpse we saw of him was less than stellar. Let's see how that turns out. Yes, i am disappointed in this loss but you cant just rip chad endlessly after every bad game. He is by far our best option at qb right now. If we want to have a shot at the playoffs we must continue with chad who is familiar with a very confusing offense and who is a leader. Furthermore, chad is not solely to blame. IMHO the play calling was horrible. No play action what so ever which has been so successful this year. No airing it out as we have in the past. So go ahead, bench chad and see what happens...

why do you people accept a loss due to the fact that we are picked to lose. we should have won but we blew it. This doesn't have to be a rebuilding year, but it seems like people are ok with whatever happens because we were not predicted to win this many games. Fuck that. I will not be happy unless we go 11-5. Any who is happy with anything else is a pussy

This is so true. We beat the Pats for the first time in years last week and all of a sudden the new coach sucks. Some sanity, please?

I was hoping to digest this loss with some sensible discussions, but this reactionary nonsense is driving me nuts.

I'm going to take a break from here, watch Dallas lose and have a drink. Others here should do the same without having a nervous breakdown.
