i don't think he can do 300+ carries without paying for it the following year, 2015,2016 being exhibit A. what good does that do. oj will be on the line blocking or running routes, opening up wrs every play, making a difference every snap. a weapon in the passing game for a 2017 nfl. fournette would be an ok pick 15 years ago
Even if I forgot the fact that the RBs on the roster already are fine players..... Fournette is not good at breaking tackles, particularly in the backfield. He is a north-south run right at people type of back. If he came here with this pitiful offensive line he would run right into the ass of linemen all year and last half the season before he's injured. He needs to play for some team that can open up holes in a zone read offense so he is already at almost at full speed by the time he hits the hole. Carolina would be a great fit. they run a lot of zone counters with the RB farther back
Not true at all. in todays NFL you need a balanced attack. the big passing teams all lost in the playoffs. for pitt bell went down early in the game. the pack had RB issues all year and used a WR to play RB. the giants got knocked out as well. the falcons had the 5th best rushing offense and 3rd best passing offense. ryan has been playing much better with freeman and the run game. didn't he win MVP this year? that never happened before he had a run game. the pats were 4th passing and 7th rushing. even before that carolina with the run game and cam made the SB. seahawks with lynch and wilson (lynch retired and they got knocked out) brady and the pats got a lot of help with blount running the ball as well. denver and their run game won a SB with manning playing like crap and missing half the season. IN short the pass heavy teams win games, but get knocked out of the playoffs by the balanced teams. pass heavy is too inconsistent, doesn't lead to long drives, and leaves your defense on the field too much. The most basic forumla of winning in the NFL (outside of coring more then you let up) is to control the ball. control the clock, keep your defense off the field and protect the ball (don't turn it over) TOP and turnovers are huge factors in who wins the game and a good run game does that.
Post PART 1 of 2. Before I add my 2 cents let me explain the below. First, all teams Offensive Lines were ranked according to PFF. Second I added in parentheses the rankings of their RB's. Last, I listed the starters and backups for each team. I agree with many of your points SGP. I'm a fan of stats, and interesting enough the Jets came in 11th in total rushing yards and 4th in yards per attempt, with the 26th ranked offensive line and 17th ranked running back tandem. So the questions are .. do we need to use a high pick on a RB OR will we shoot up the rankings by doing so? 1. good stats for sure (i read both posts) and i aprreciate the time you spent putting it together. I know that overall we had a good run game last year. but sometimes you have to look deeper. forte is gone after this season and he's already 32 IIRC. powell is 29 already making him 30 next year and he's always been more of a 3rd down RB. so basically past this season we have no starting RB on the roster. and a 30 year old 3rd down back. coupled with a rebuilding o-line and a young unproven QB. we need to invest in offense and build the o-line , groom a QB and make his life easy as possible. the best way to help a young QB is with a strong o-line and a strong run game. as it stands now there isn't a lineman in the draft worth taking at 6. If there was a stud LT for the 6 pick i'd agree with taking it over fournette (like we took brick over bush and lienart basiclly) but since there isn't we need a run game to help. Not only that but stats are sometimes deceiving. the jets spent a lot of time in 3rd and long due to poor production in the run game on 1st and 2nd down. we ran a lot of 3rd down draw plays for big years because the defense played back and then had to punt. losing yards on 1st and 2nd down and having 3rd and 12 then running a 10 yard draw looks better stat wise then it does in reality. we need to be put into 3rd and short (4 or less) and a guy like fournette can do that. he's a bruising north and south runner. he's also the best prospect since peterson. guys like that come along once every 10 years or so, it's hard to pass them up.
A RB that defenses have to key in will definitely help a young QB. If Hackenberg does win the job, he does have a nice play action game, and a strong arm to go deep with. It could very well be a nice match. Hopefully the draft falls into place in our favor :
Trubisky is not slated to be drafted before 6. In fact the majority are questioning if 6 is even too early for a QB in this draft.
Tony Romo is retiring .. let's see if that effects the draft and how much of an impact it would have on our decision of drafting a QB in round 1.
he's slated in the top 10 and since he's a QB people will always take one early if they feel it's "their guy" Cleveland is going to take one at 12 for sure i can't seem him falling much more then that. Lets not forget people though aaron rodgers could be or should have been the top pick and he fell to 24
12 is not top 10. the Jets could possibly make the move at 6 if they really like him. and yes aaron Rodgers did, but Trubisky by all accounts is not comparable to Aaron Rodgers. If you're going to make that argument lets look at all the QBs historically taken in round 6 because of Brady.
12 is the worst he'd go. most people have him going in the top 10. but of course it's possible to fall. Aaron Rodgers was in consideration of 1st overall and fell to 24th. tebow and bridgewater weren't considered 1st rounders but they went in the 1st. same with manzeil. all in all the draft is a crapshoot and anything can happen, but most "experts" agree trib is a top 10 pick
Most experts were 100% certain Goff was a sure thing at 1 not a bust yet but not looking good. QBs are very much a crapshoot.
Yea, good thing ol' Todd doesn't have to work in the private sector...... ......yet..... Boss: So Todd, we have picked up on a bit of a pattern here. You have been late to meetings a number of times this month. Care to explain? Todd: Eh,...you know, your alarm clock doesn't always work, sometimes your just late for work. Its all part of it....no big deal....
jmo, but if i have to use the 6th pick, given a choice between fornette and o.j. howard, i go with the tight end. he helps the passing game, the o-line, and keeps the extra guy out of the box. teams haev always found rbs later on in the draft. we alreday have powell and forte. what have we got at tight end?
