Just stop it. He is not considered a top 10 prospects in the draft. Top 10 QB - sure, top 10 overall-- no way in hell.
He's easily one of the best available players. He's a great piece for the John Morton offense and a TE is a young qbs best friend. Don't let the college stats fool you. He's a beast and he's got hands. I think he has more of an impact on the Jets then Fournette.
All very true, but the harsh reality is that there is no road to a championship without a top QB. I'm not a believer in the "tank" theory to get a QB next year. Too many things can happen to make it turn out wrong. It's like the old adage says, "a bird in hand...."
Still it's a TE who has never played in an offense where he had to make an impact as a reciever. and nobody takes a blocking TE at number 6 in the draft. that's anthony becht level of bad. It's something we here about every QB, in the end it's meaningless and they always go. alex smith had small hands, lienhart was cross eyed, etc etc. at the end if teams think this guy can play football they will draft him.
based on what exactly? If i hop over to say nfl.com he is tied for 7th with his grade of a 6.5 with lattimore, howard, and charlton. he is behind garrett, thomas, allen, fournette, hooker and adams. outside of garret who is clearly considered the best player in the draft and is graded as a future all pro, 2-10 are all in the "good NFL starter with pro bowl potential" bracket
I don't see it but hey if they take him I'll be cheering for him, I just don't want them too. I'd rather address the QB issue or get fournette. I don't care how good howard is, he won't do crap if the QB can't get the ball to him. at least with a RB he isn't reliant on the QB to make an impact yeah tank theory is pretty pointless. just pick the right players when it's your turn and it doens't matter where you pick. look at the steelers with brown, bell, and ben. brown was a 4th rounder IIRC, bell was a 2nd rounder, and ben was the 3rd QB taken in the draft at 7th overall. and out of that they got a top 5 QB, 2 SB rings, the top WR in the NFL and arguably the top RB in the NFL at worst top 3.
My concern about Founrette, is they will run him into the ground and in 3-4 years when we may be good, hes gonna have so many miles on him, he will start to break down. Punishing runners like him dont last very long in todays NFL
After watching this guy sprint down the sidelines in the championship game and catch a long pass from the QB in full stride with the same ease and fluidity of a WR, there should be doubt about this guy's ability to catch a football no matter what offense he came from.
Watson is more seasoned than Trubisky, and he's played in not one but two National Championship games at Clemson in which he stepped up his level of play against Nick Saban's Crimson Tide. Deshaun Watson has that "it" factor. You can't teach that. He's a winner. I'd rather draft OJ Howard instead of Trubisky if Watson is gone.
Very few runners last long in the NFL. It's the nature of the position, you have to expect all runners to deal with injury at some point. Yes, there are runners like Curtis Martin, Tiki Barber, Adrian Peterson, Ladanian Tomlinson, etc. with longevity but those are the exception, and even they had to deal with injuries from time to time. Nevertheless, that should not stop a team from considering Fournette. A runner who can average 4-5 yds a pop is extremely valuable to an offense. It's the difference of consistently facing 3rd and long (like the Jets have recently) and 3rd and short. You have a lot more options at 3rd and short.
I also watched stephen hill do that and how did that work out lol I just can't justify a TE being drafted so high personally. I'm not saying he won't be great or anything but just not the right pick for us IMO Isn't that the same argument for byron leftwhich? he was a winner and tough and more seasoned. same with tim tebow he was a winner right? watson wasn't really considered anything until the champ game performance. he shot up boards much like vince young did with his rose bowl game. I can't see taking him at 6 for his performance in one game. Many teams don't see him as a 1st rounder. with that said, If he's still on the board in the 2nd round for us and we didn't take trib, I would grab him at that spot for sure.
19yds/rec. so stop with the blocking t.e. bs. the guy is going to be a pro bowler for what ever team takes him is a legit top 10 player in this draft
I'm not arguing he isn't a top 10 player. and YPC again is easy with so few catches. he hasn't been in an offense where he needs to a playmaker. Hill averaged 25 YPC in a similar offense and sucked in the NFL. We have much more pressing needs and could grab a guy like jake butt in the 3rd round who is similar to the skill set of whitten. he can block and is very good on 3rd downs he just isn't an explosive playmaker. I'd be pretty happy if we could land fournette, watson, and butt for our top 3 picks. we need to go heavy offense this draft IMO
I can agree with that, but I was addressing his ability to catch. BTW, Stephen Hill was a player (like many who wore the Jets uniform) I feel they gave up on too quickly. Yes, he dropped some crucial passes but I feel he was a scapegoat for Geno's deficiencies. There must have been a huge amount of pressure on the offense with Geno at QB and granted Hill didn't deal with it well after that first game, but the guy was rookie, and showed in that first game he had talent.
QBs are bad at the top and why would you want to see Fournette run against 8 man boxes for 300+ carries? Regardless, we are building a team for sustainable winning, not a 1 season try and win it all. You draft for the future, not for 1 year. If Hack shows something in camp, it would be very nice to have OJ Howard catch the ball especially in an offense where the TE will be featured.
he did look good at 1st but went quickly downhill. I would say we gave up on him early if he didn't fail after the panthers gave him a chance as well though
and fournette can carry our offense for the next 6-8 years. not that the vikings were great bu peterson had a huge effect on the sucess they had with poor WRs and poor QBs. peterson helped them make 4 playoff appearances and helped their Qbs perform much better and took pressure off the WRs. with fournette if teams stack the box that leaves our Wrs with 1 on 1s and it pulls a safety out of coverage for our QB. It also allows us to control the clock and keep our defense off the field longer. So if teams want to stack the box and make us grind out every yard i'm ok with that.
Vikings with Peterson were a 1 and done squad. I think you can get a very good rb in the 2nd to 4th round to pair up with an OJ Howard that is a building block for the Morton offense. Jets also have Powell and Forte.
1 and done is better then we've done in the past 7 years or so. last time we made the playoffs was 2010. Forte is gone after this season and powell will be 31 going into the 2018 season and is more of a 3rd down back. that would leave us with no real starting RB next season. not to mention forte broke down the past 2 seasons and will likely do it again this year leaving us with powell only. waiting to draft until we absolutely need the position is why we are where we are. look at the giants and steelers, both rumored to draft a QB to eb the replacements of eli and ben in the next few years. broncos drafted oswiler to take over for manning. pats drafted garapollo to take over for brady. it's ok to draft something that will be a need in a year or 2. it's better planning then relying on a rookie all the time. fournette is the best RB prospect in 10 years, to pass on him doesn't make much sense unless it's for a franchise QB. Also historically RB is the position with the least amount of busts. of course it happens (blair thomas, trent richardson etc) but in general it's rare. look at guys like LT, Peterson, etc.
