Because nobody on the damn roster can throw a football worth a shit. Mccown is 2-20 in the last 22 games, I believe someone said....yet somehow last year he still put 340 on the Jets. He's had shit teams. New coach has worked with him before. Leadership qualities that can convey the message to the players. Is it ideal? Hell no! Is it even good? Hell no. But it's still better than anyone on the team. If you think coaches and Gm are gonna scrap their season before the draft, you should try to sabotage your own job for next year and see how that goes. The hell it is. It goes to philosophy. Mangold had a cap number of $9 million. He had some injuries last year but has played more consistently than McCown. They could have likely renegotiated him down to $6mil or even lower. He wanted to retire a Jet. Now he may retire a NY Football Giant. Nick fucking Mangold.

Just stop with the defending of McCown....He had 11 turnovers in 5 games with a completion % barely over 50%. Yea this was with a horrendous team but the Jets won't be much better around him next season. Sorry if it bothers me that we are paying for something like this. I don't care if Hack or Petty can play equal or better than McCown..The point is we wouldn't have to waste money on them and they may have some upside The point is with a rebuilding squad McCown offers nothing positive besides leadership (lol) If both Hack and Petty are really that awful I have serious doubts about Mac and the scouts but that's another issue

Who is not a waste? They want a veteran presence and an option if all hell breaks loose. In my opinion any QB that could play all of 17 and prevent Hack from seeing the field is a waste. That leaves McCown and Daniel.

This is worthy of an eye roll at best. The cost is minimal. Having someone experienced next to your green guys gives them more confidence. Apparently they felt he was worth 6m. I refuse to get mad.
