I guaranty in March 2018 everyone would be bitching about giving 11 m to Hightower.

Good player, but he would have mailed it in had he signed here.

When someone walks out of the building after says he's not signing with you, rescinding the offer is called "spinning."

I do think it's a very good sign that the GM didn't get caught up in the one upping the Pats foolishness we've seen in the past. The Jets need to worry about building a good team and not worry about what goes on up the road.

The Jets did the right thing by offering him a competitive offer and not going crazy.

He had the Pats best offer in his pocket, and it was gonna take a team beating it by more than a little to get him to leave.

this^ it wasn't just because we suck because pitt was in the running too and are a good team that should compete for the SB. especially with a healthy ben and bell and getting bryant back will be huge.

like ryan leaf and jamarcus russel? taking a QB high doesn't guarantee they will be a sucess. especially if you start them off surrounded by no talent like david carr

Before closing this thread, I would like to add a final thought.

On a previous thread I argued that it would take 13-15 million a year to land Hightower. The Jets from what I understand offered 11 million while the Patriots signed him for 4 years at 43.5 million. If my math is correct, this is a 125K difference in salary. I believed Hightower would have been a good addition to the Jets because of his leadership qualities. To suggest Hightower picked the Pats and money had nothing to do with it, is not correct in my opinion. I think at 13 million the Jets would possibly have gotten him.

Sorry to be corny but I think for the extra green in money, Hightower would have turned green! Ok I know, this acquisition is not possible for the Jets at this time. My question to you folks is this:

Who do you see as a free agent pickup that would be a good leader and mentor especially for the defense?

It appears the Jets may have drove the price from 10 million to 10.875 million if you believe the media.

At 229 LBs, Reuben Foster will need to bulk up if he is going to be a middle linebacker. Alabama does seem to develop good linebackers over the years. He would be a good pick later in the 1st round in my opinion, not #6. He does have some injury concerns that make me think he will be a mid to late 1st round selection.

Do you believe the media or don't you?

And which media sources do you believe?

    btw - "May have drove"???

That's a mistake that grade schoolers make. Stop pretending to be high brow. The evidence is in every one of your posts.

    Fake ass motherfucker.

TRUE, but it also doesn't guarantee they won't be a success either. I hear this claim all the time that you don't need to take a QB in the 1st round???

The point is, you NEVER know where you will get a great QB. I could go on a long list of QB's selected in the 1st round that turned out to be great and more often than not, the 1st rounders' IS the way to go...........

That's still a lot different than saying the greatest NT in the history of the NFL and tied with Aaron Rodgers for 2nd best player.

SMH :rolleyes:o_O Some people shouldn't go near their keyboard when they've been drinking or doing drugs. Maybe we need to start having people have to have a blood test or use a breathalyzer to use their keyboard.
