Only because Cutler will make the Jets just competitive enough to barely miss out making the wild card..it sucks I know but if the Jets surround Cutler with some weapons, like grabbing a RB or TE in the first round, it just may happen.

Offense sells tickets. Ryan Sixpstrick and Captain Checkdown sold brown paper bags.

Again I ask... in what world does Cutler sell tickets? The Bears had way more talent offensively the last few years and their offense has been average at its very best. If you think Cutler puts this current roster at "competitive enough" level then you're severely overrating Cutler.

If the Jets sign Jay Cutler then the Jets would know without question they'll actually have at least one serviceable quarterback. We might get to see a deep pass again.

And you think Cutler isn't a huge upgrade to what the Jets put on the field last season to take snaps? You are severely overlooking how bad the QB'ing was for this team. Talent level on the Jets side with Marshall, Decker, Enunwa and Powel were the same successfull bunch brought back from 2015 that went from the penthouse to the outhouse in only 1 year. If you've been watching the last 2 seasons, you would know who the main culprit was that caused this.

If this happens, it wouldn't surprise me to see a drafted TE wearing green and white. Sometimes when you through a monkey wrench (Cutler) into the broken machine (Jets ), it does break a few cogs, but the multiple repairs (Howard/Williams) make for a rejuvenated engine.

I hate to keep playing this game with you but if you're implying last year was all on the quarterback and I don't know man… I think we are on completely different wavelengths.

I agree, but I think Cutler should be signed to have a decent veteran on the roster. Not many better options out there. When signed, tell him he must compete for the job. If he agrees, worth a shot.

Pros vs Cons of Signing Jay Cutler

    Pros:
    • The Jets are the only team associated with having any interest, meaning we would dictate terms. AKA cheap contract.
    • Cutler even at this stage of his career would be the best QB we've had start since Favre. A more competitive team.
    • Having an experienced QB under center helps with development at certain positions. Changing protection, audibles, putting guys in motion, etc. (O-line, WRs, RBs, TEs)
    • Entertainment value. For all he is Cutler has a big arm and loves to show it off. So all those streaking plays Anderson was wide open on last year turns into Sunday-Funday while watching the game (for what it's worth).
    • From an ownership perspective this draws more crowds, more coverage, more nationally televised games, more merchandise, more revenue.
    • As far as Cutler being a viable option moving forward for the next 3-5 years, I give this a 10% probability that he could take complete control of this role and be the QB he has shown flashes of throughout his career. I wanted to put this here in the Pros section because even if I do believe there's just a 1/10 chance of this coming to fruition and for it to work out it would all have to come together in this upcoming season with a lot of odds stacked against him, but I'll quote Lloyd Christmas "So you're telling me there's a chance".

    Cons:
    • He's been known to be disruptive (this hasn't surfaced in a long time however).
    • Not someone who is going to rally the troops and give a motivational speech.
    • Mistake prone, tends to force the ball when nothings there
    • Him starting would inhibit the progress of Hack/Petty
    • This is speculation but I would assume he wouldn't be a role model figure to try and help out the youth and give vet leadership. Just how he carries himself and you never see it on the sideline.
    • His assumed boost to the win column hinders obtaining a higher draft pick (for a QB), may give pause to selecting a QB in 2018, a mediocre performance on a 1 year deal could lead to the Fitzmagic Effect in the offseason.
    • He will turn 34 in April
    • Wouldn't allow for a proper evaluation of Hack/Petty's talent to make an informed decision on moving forward. Could result in knee-jerk reaction

    Conclusion,
There's benefits to bringing him in and detriment. Personally I like the direction the the organisation is taking presently with a youth movement, savvy cost effective FA signings, and what appears to be a renewed focus on the draft. That being said I don't see room for Cutler in this formula, this would be going against the current. If this was possible two years ago I think it would have been a no brainer.

My post did not state that it was "all on the quarterback"..he was the main reason... I know that there were other factors/issues but , as is always the case with any team, the easiest scapegoat to place all the onus on is the QB. And even Fitz admitted he played log dog poop. If you don't see this, then yes, we're both on opposite ends of the dial.

If he finally matures I could see him having a testaverde-ish upswing at the end of his career. He's a stud athlete and has a few years of potentially viable play...If he ever matures.

Bringing in Cutler (he's basically Fitz with a much stronger arm) for anything more than a 1 year audition makes little sense to me. If the Jets were a QB away from being a top playoff contender, maybe.

thats best case scenario but very remote because we don't have parcells in charge around here and the talent base just isn't there.

watch us sign him, have a good draft, and actually win the first 2 games with cutler - then he snaps his achilles.

    ugh.
